Zhao Guihua opened her mouth, but suddenly realized that she didn't know where to start. The story was really long and had to start from when the bamboo slips were unearthed.
“Mother, let me talk to Auntie,” Zhou Sanfu said enthusiastically. “...That’s how it is, so we’re going to start brewing wine now.”
"That's great news! After hearing what you've said, I can hardly sit still. I really want to go back right away and brew wine with you. Once the wine is brewed, we can open a tavern and use the recipes on the bamboo slips. We're sure we can make money." Zhao Guizhi was quite confident.
"I feel much more at ease now that you say that. Otherwise, I'd always worry that the wine wouldn't sell. We only know how to farm; we're really not good at business." Zhao Guihua felt much more relaxed.
“It’s not a bad thing that you’re thinking about food. You and your brother-in-law will be our strong rear base in the future. It’s always good to save more food. We’ll be in charge of making money in town. We can have both food and money. We won’t have to worry about rice, and we won’t lack money for the children to take the imperial examinations in the future. Isn’t that great?” Zhao Guizhi looked forward to the future.
Zhao Guihua was indeed successfully brainwashed—or rather, her sister's words made a lot of sense, and she finally had no more worries.
“However, the money to buy a shop and furnish it will still depend on you. I only have 153 taels of silver on me, 150 of which were given to me by you. Only 3 taels are what I have earned in the past few months. Shunping needs to take medicine every day, so I don’t have much money left over,” Zhao Guizhi said frankly.
“However, Shunping’s health has improved a lot in the past few months. Since last month, he hasn’t had to stay in bed every day. Sometimes he even helps make steamed buns, and he cooks his own lunch.” As her husband’s health improves day by day, Zhao Guizhi’s mood has also improved, and she smiles more often than before.
"That's good. My brother-in-law was about to come and help in the kitchen, which scared me so much that I sent him straight back to his room to rest. No wonder he looked so amused and exasperated." Zhao Guihua chuckled as she recalled the scene at noon.
In the courtyard, Xingxing and Ruru played for a while before Chen Caocao's worried voice came from the west wing, "Fa, how are you feeling? If you feel unwell, you must tell your mother. If you keep it to yourself, your mother will be scared. Don't scare your mother."
Zhou Dafa said weakly with a pained expression, "Mom, my back hurts and it itches."
“But you can’t turn over yet. Your bones haven’t healed back up. Turning over will only worsen your injury.” Chen Caocao was at a loss, her whole body filled with panic and anxiety.
"But my back is itchy and painful, it's so uncomfortable." Zhou Dafa frowned in pain.
“How did this happen so suddenly? I was so much more energetic before, and I’ve been taking my medicine,” Chen Caocao said through gritted teeth, gripping her clothes tightly. “I’ll go and get a doctor to come and take a look.”
Xingxing looked curious and said to Ruru, "Let's go see what's wrong. Dafa seems to be in more serious condition."
Ru Ru stood there without moving, her delicate little face full of distress. After a long while, she said in a soft voice, "You haven't been here these past two days, and Da Fa's room has become smelly. It smells so bad, Ru Ru doesn't want to play with him."
"Did he poop in bed and no one helped him change his pants?" Xingxing cleverly guessed this possibility.
Ruru looked horrified. "Is that so? That's really dirty. Let's tell Aunt Chen right away and ask her to help Brother Dafa change his pants."
“My second aunt is so cute, I’m not going to tell her. If we find out about something so embarrassing, she’ll definitely start crying again.” In Xingxing’s memory, her second aunt was always crying. Ever since her family moved here, she could hear her crying every day.
"Huh? If we don't tell her, who will help Da Fa change his poop pants?" Ru Ru looked at Xing Xing as if facing a formidable enemy, afraid that Xing Xing would say that they would let the two of them complete this arduous and smelly task.
"I'm going to tell Mother." Xingxing turned and ran to find Zhao Guihua.
After hearing Xingxing's words, Zhao Guihua and Zhao Guizhi exchanged a strange look, and then went to the west wing together.
When the two arrived, they sniffed around but didn't smell any feces or urine. However, there was a strange stench, but in the end, it was Zhao Guizhi, with her experience, who noticed something.
"Have you not turned the child over at all? He's been lying like this for over a month; his back must be raw from lying down like that." Zhao Guizhi was speechless. Chen Caocao and Zhou Lao Er were too rigid; they didn't even know this basic common sense.
“But Dafa has broken many bones, so we dare not move him.” Chen Caocao said with a bitter face, showing no opinion whatsoever.
Zhao Guizhi almost laughed in exasperation. "You two try lying in bed for more than a month without turning over. The child is still small. Can't you two, with all your strength, turn him over? Just be careful not to touch any of his injured areas."
Does this couple never even use their brains? No wonder they've been bullied to death by Zhou Laosan and Zhou Laosi for so many years; they really don't know how to be flexible at all.
Zhao Guihua also didn't know what to say to her sister-in-law. "What are you standing there for? Go to the kitchen and fetch a basin of clean water. Let's turn Dafa over and clean him up together."
Chen Caocao is very efficient when told what to do; she is very good at her work, but she lacks initiative and will falter if she has to rely on herself when something happens.
The water was brought over quickly. Following Zhao Guizhi's suggestion, Chen Caocao and Zhao Guihua lifted Zhou Dafa and turned him over so that he was lying face down on the bed.
"Look at this back, it's all rotten from lying down. If you don't clean it up soon, it'll be infested with maggots when it gets hot, you know?" Zhao Guihua clicked her tongue a few times, not daring to look at the miserable state of Zhou Dafa's back.
"Clean it up, apply some medicine powder, and remember to turn the child over every day and wipe his body morning and night," Zhao Guizhi instructed calmly, unlike Zhao Guihua who spoke directly.
