Chapter 370 Temple Fair

However, the noble lady called for a long time but none of the guards came. So where were the ten guards? Just now, when they heard the noble lady's order, the guards did rush over here quickly.

But before they could get close, they were stunned by a sword aura from the white-robed youth, and now the ten guards were lying sprawled out ten feet away.

Actually, the ladies did hear a 'thump' sound of something hitting the ground, but they were too busy arguing with someone to notice it.

Unable to summon any guards, the noble ladies, in a fit of anger and embarrassment, had no choice but to send their maids. Xingxing, pulling Zhao Guihua and Chen Yueru along, turned and ran.

"Now you know fear, but it's too late." The maid who spoke first saw the three of them turn and run away, and thinking she was scared, she chased after them with all her might.

But after running for a while, Xingxing suddenly stopped and whispered, "Mom, Ruru, step back a bit, I'm about to unleash my ultimate move."

Xingxing's ultimate move was to throw a smoke bomb that Wufu had given her for self-defense. The smoke bomb, the size of a pigeon egg, exploded in the air, instantly causing a cloud of black smoke to erupt around her, and everyone who smelled the smoke fainted.

"You dare to mess with me? Don't you know who I am?" Xingxing shouted, uttering harsh words to the unconscious noble ladies.

Zhu Lin's lips twitched as he watched, unable to suppress a laugh. He had been hiding in the shadows since coming up from the foot of the mountain, working as a bodyguard. Now he was truly glad he had managed to hide earlier; otherwise, if the young girl and those noble ladies had been arguing, would he have stood by and helped to argue with them?

If he doesn't confront them directly, he'll have to resort to drastic measures, knocking these so-called noble ladies unconscious in one fell swoop. But then Xingxing won't be able to perform to her full potential, and she'll probably be frustrated if she can't perform. In that case, he'll be in a dilemma.

"Alright, let's hurry up and go up, the temple fair is about to start." Zhu Lin's ears twitched as she heard someone rushing up from the foot of the mountain, guessing that it was another bodyguard from the noble ladies' household.

To avoid ruining my enjoyment of the temple fair, I'd better not waste any more time here and get out of here quickly.

Xingxing clapped her hands and didn't linger any longer. She walked up the mountain with Zhao Guihua and Chen Yueru. Before long, they reached the top of the mountain. The mountain was not very high, and the terrain was flat with no steep slopes.

The mountaintop was bustling with activity. It didn't look like a mountain at all; it was more like a market. The central avenue was no narrower than the streets of Beijing, and vendors lined both sides with stalls selling a wide variety of goods.

"Is it always this lively here all year round?" Xingxing's eyes lit up. Her earlier displeasure vanished, and she excitedly ran into the crowd, eager to have some fun.

Zhu Lin quickly grabbed her by the back of her collar, "Don't run around on your own, what if you get separated from the crowd?"

"Oh, I won't run around, don't carry me," Xingxing said obediently, hooking her arm around the boy's and smiling. "Brother Lin, is this your first time here too?"

"Don't you know that the first time I met you was after we came from Fairy Mist Island? We've been together ever since. Wherever you are, I am. Don't you know best whether I've been here or not?" The young man glanced down at her.

"I just inquired, and the area outside Hufa Temple is lively all year round, but it's never this crowded. It's only this crowded during temple fairs, which are held three times a year." Chen Yueru dutifully took on the task of asking around.

"That's quite frequent. It seems there are no peach blossoms to see on the back mountain at this time of year, and the pear blossoms seem to be past their prime. Since there are no flowers to see, we can only eat, drink, and shop." As Xingxing spoke, she took out a tael of silver from the small pouch hanging on her waist.

By this time, Qingyan and Qingluo had caught up. The two were panting and sweating profusely. That little devil, the princess, had deliberately sent them away this morning and then secretly ran off to play at the Dharma Protector Temple.

"Miss, you could have just said you wanted to come to the temple fair. Why did you have to send us away?" Qingyan said with a resentful tone. She and Qingluo had been sent by the princess to turn over the soil and plant vegetables in the last courtyard of the Zhu residence. They had been busy since yesterday afternoon.

Sigh, it's a long story. The two of them are top-notch experts, taking a high-class and aloof approach. But ever since they followed the princess, they've had to learn to do everything.

Being a maidservant and serving others, cooking and preparing meals was one thing, but now they've been reduced to tilling the soil and planting vegetables. But the princess has given the order, and they dare not disobey. They just never expected that farming would be even more grueling than practicing martial arts. It's all tears when you talk about it.

Sigh, it's one thing to make them farm, the princess is the master, they accept their fate, but how can the princess run away on her own when she wants to go out and play? If something happens to the princess outside, their heads will be chopped off.

"I didn't call you because I saw you hadn't finished planting your vegetables. It wasn't that I deliberately ran away. Besides, there are plenty of guards with you two, so nothing will happen," Xingxing said dismissively.

"No, you can't sneak off like that again. Qingluo and I are your personal guards, and we have to stay with you every step of the way. Princess, please don't make things difficult for us." Qingyan reminded her in a low voice with a serious face.

"Okay, I got it. Don't be mad at me. I'll treat you to something to eat." Xingxing saw someone selling fried cakes nearby and excitedly ran over to buy some.

"Boss, give me ten." The little girl waved her hand, as if she wanted to have the whole place to herself.

Qingyan's brow twitched, and she stepped to stand beside Shen Xingxing, whispering, "Miss, Master said you can't eat random things outside, it's bad for your stomach."

"What does the master know? There's nothing I wouldn't eat outside. I've long since developed a stomach of steel. I can even eat molten iron, so what's this fried cake?" Xingxing didn't care about all that; she would eat whatever she wanted.

Seeing that she insisted on buying it, Qingyan had no choice but to snatch the package of oil paper before letting her eat it. Then she used silver needles to test each piece for poison before daring to let her eat it.
