Chapter 10 The Fat Sheep

As soon as the two entered the house, they immediately took out several items from the pockets of their sewn clothes.

Shuangshuang, trying to appease Ye Wenxue who was sitting on the bed with a stern face, massaged her shoulders: "Mother, we found quite a lot of things."

She counted them one by one: "A small handful of wheat, two copper coins, and... and a wild egg."

I found the wild egg while resting by a puddle at noon, but there was only one.

They casually put the items in their pockets, but after lunch, they encountered some thugs and forgot to take them out.

Now is the perfect time to make Mom happy.

Siwang kept his head down, glancing at Ye Wenxue's expression from time to time.

...It was too dark inside to see clearly.

Even without looking, he knew his mother was somewhat angry and worried.

Siwang added in a low voice, "I also saw a lot of other people."

Ye Wenxue wasn't angry at all; she was just worried that the two children might sneak out and run into bad people.

Hearing what Siwang said, she broke her silence:

"So many people? Where did you see them?"

They both stopped what they were doing, and under Ye Wenxue's wary gaze and Sanyuan's curious look, they whispered:

"We saw it from the house next door, the house next door. We heard a noise but didn't light any candles. We were afraid there were bad people, so we didn't climb over. We just squatted in the corner and eavesdropped for a few minutes."

"These people were attracted by the light from the house at the end of the village. That family has been staying in Shuixi Village for a few days and is preparing to set off tomorrow."

"They were planning to rob someone tonight!"

Shuangshuang and Siwang were terrified when they overheard this.

Siwang was young and almost couldn't help but shout out loud.

Fortunately, Shuangshuang was quick-witted and covered his mouth in time.

Fortunately, the group of thugs were so focused on robbing the house at the end of the village that they didn't notice the commotion around them, which allowed the two of them to sneak back.

Shuangshuang and Siwang were just debating whether or not to tell their mother about this.

Ye Wenxue stood up instantly, paced back and forth in the room twice, and frowned:

"No, I have to go check it out."

Judging from Shuangshuang's words, there were quite a few bad guys in that group.

After the people at the end of the village are killed and robbed, they might search every house in the village and soon find the courtyard where Ye Wenxue's family is staying.

The fact that the cart was still in the yard made it clear that someone lived inside.

No matter how high Ye Wenxue's martial arts skills are, it's impossible for her to escape unscathed every time.

If she were still alone, taking risks wouldn't be a problem.

But she has five children to take care of now, so she has to be careful in her actions.

Ye Wenxue untied Yuanyuan from her back, placed her next to the dazed Dazhuang, gave her a few instructions, and then turned to leave.

Dazhuang instantly snapped out of it, pressing down on Yuanyuan who was trying to crawl out while trying to stop her.

He knew how tiring it was to push a cart all day, and considering Ye Wenxue's injuries, he was afraid she wouldn't be able to fight off those villains.

"How about... how about we leave Shuixi Village under the cover of night? Forget the cart, let's just sneak away?"

This is the safest solution he can think of right now.

Ye Wenxue patted Dazhuang's head and shook her head:

"Leaving the village at night and sleeping in the wilderness is even more unsafe."

"The family at the end of the village dares to openly light their lamps; they must have something to rely on."

"I'll go check the situation. If the bad guys are winning, I'll lend a hand to the people at the end of the village. I won't rush in recklessly by myself."

When she said the word "reckless," she didn't forget to glance at Shuangshuang and Siwang, who were sitting obediently.

Shuangshuang and Siwang scratched their heads sheepishly and muttered something under their breath:

"We're not being reckless; we're being very careful."

Da Zhuang looked at Ye Wenxue, who was gripping the wood-chopping knife tightly, and then at Shuangshuang and Siwang, who were both unreasonable and arrogant. He felt a headache coming on.

In this family, only he and Sanyuan seek stability and don't cause trouble, right?

However, Ye Wenxue's words made a lot of sense, and after thinking it over, Dazhuang couldn't find a reason to object, so he could only stand up and nod:

"Mother, don't worry, Sanyuan and I will definitely take good care of Shuangshuang, Siwang and Yuanyuan."

Sanyuan, who was feeding the geese, looked up blankly and only saw Ye Wenxue's back as she closed the door and left.

Dazhuang was still a little worried.

He hugged Xiao Yuanyuan, who was gently tugging at his hair, and walked around the table and the big goose squatting on it. Together with Shuangshuang and Siwang, he leaned out the window to look outside.

Sanyuan was quick-witted. He first went to bolt the door shut, then moved two long benches behind the door before squeezing to the window and tiptoeing to carefully observe the movements in the yard.

Outside, Ye Wenxue glanced at the inconspicuous cart.

Between hiding it and leaving it untouched, I chose the latter.

Pushing the cart makes quite a commotion; we mustn't alert the two groups of people.

After making some simple preparations in the yard, she climbed over two walls and quietly squatted in the corner of the wall that Shuangshuang had mentioned, listening to the chaotic breathing sounds coming from there, not daring to breathe loudly.

There are a lot of people.

It far exceeded the dozen or so people who were causing trouble in Shanqing Village.

It seems that the family temporarily staying at the end of the village is a fat sheep.

In just a few moments, several unconventional thoughts surfaced in Ye Wenxue's mind, only to be suppressed one by one.

She's now a mother of five, so she has to set a good example and not let them learn bad habits.

...Of course, part of the reason is that there are too many people, and it's not certain that they can win.

Ye Wenxue gripped her wood-chopping knife tightly, carefully avoiding the pairs of eyes peering out of the neighboring window, and peered out to observe the activity at the end of the village.

Shuixi Village is located at the foot of a deep mountain, dozens of miles away from the official road and not close to the town, so the village is very poor.

The house at the end of the village where people were temporarily staying was probably the only relatively wealthy one in Shuixi Village, with high walls and two large red lanterns hanging at the entrance.

The candlelight illuminated the entire courtyard, as well as the carriages and piles of goods placed there.

Ye Wenxue even saw several sheep and cows.

She swallowed hard, and when someone opened the door at the end of the village to check on her, she pulled her head back in.

Ye Wenxue calmed down for a while.

As the moon hung high in the sky, the noise at the end of the village gradually subsided, as if the village had fallen into a deep sleep.

Just as Ye Wenxue was about to peek out again, she suddenly heard a commotion coming from next door.

They seemed to have a disagreement, but out of consideration for the people at the end of the village, they kept their voices very low.

Ye Wenxue held her breath and took a few steps closer to hear clearly.

"Old Deng, you're such a coward. It's the middle of the night, what are you waiting for? There are so many brothers here, and I have some sleeping powder, I can knock out dozens of people."

“That’s not a good idea. They’re not reckless to leave a fire burning all night. I’m afraid there might be guards hiding in the village. We need to be careful.”

“I had someone check the village, and there’s no one there. There’s just a woman who moved in at the village entrance, with a few tender-skinned kids. Once we’ve dealt with the people at the village entrance, we can take them all with us.”

"But……"

"Stop talking nonsense, listen to me, let's do it now. Xiao Sanzi is the lightest, you go, climb into the yard and blow sleeping powder. Once it's done, give the brothers a signal, and we'll move in immediately."

"I'll do whatever you say, Big Brother!"

A faint creaking sound rang out, and Ye Wenxue curled up in the corner, listening to the sound of footsteps fading away.

She wiped the cold sweat from her palms on the old clothes, her brows furrowing deeper and deeper.
