Chapter 12 Buying Grain

Ye Wenxue raised her sleeve to wipe away the drool that Xiao Yuanyuan had unconsciously drooled from, and did not push or shove her back and forth in a coy manner.

—After all, she did lend a hand last night.

"Young master, you're too kind. I'll accept the gifts. Is there anything else?"

Xie Yunhan was surprised by Ye Wenxue's open-mindedness, and swallowed back the words he was about to use to persuade her to accept the gift.

He gestured with his chin, indicating to the guard to hand over the food box:

"It's nothing serious... By the way, I just heard that Madam's family is short of food. I happened to bring some grain with me on this business trip, perhaps...?"

Ye Wenxue held the food box in her hand, her eyes lighting up.

She was wondering how to subtly and naturally ask the man in the blue robe to buy grain from her.

Since this person took the initiative to speak, she wouldn't hold back.

"Buy grain? Of course we need to!"

At the same time, Xie Yunhan continued, "Did you send over a few bags of dry rations?"

As soon as the words were spoken, both of them were taken aback.

Ye Wenxue raised an eyebrow:

"No need. It's not easy for you to transport grain back and forth, so I won't take advantage of you. Just sell it to me at the original price."

She's incredibly shrewd.

In those chaotic times of war, grain prices have increased several times over.

Buying grain at the original price can save you a small amount of money.

You won't lose money in the end.

This would also allow this obviously unusual man in blue to continue owing her a favor.

hey-hey.

Xie Yunhan lowered his eyes and smiled: "Thank you for your patronage of my business, Madam."

The two exchanged names.

Ye Wenxue and he agreed to go to the yard later to check the quality of the grain before deciding how much to buy.

Xie Yunhan had no objections, only leaving behind the words "I await your arrival," before turning and leaving with his hands behind his back.

After the two walked away, Ye Wenxue immediately took the food box and went into the house.

She placed the dishes from the food box onto the table one by one, then woke up the children:

"Get up quickly, the sun is shining on your bottom!"

Dazhuang sat up groggily, raised his hand and rubbed his nose: "Mom, my nose seems to be broken."

Otherwise, how could he smell the aroma of meat?

The two of them were turned over by the fragrance:

"I can smell it too, mmm...it smells so good, even better than the rice porridge with egg I had yesterday."

Ye Wenxue tucked Yuanyuan into Dazhuang's arms:

"I'm not mistaken, there's meat and vegetables on the table. Mom, go get some rice. Quickly wake up Sanyuan and Siwang, or the meat will get cold and won't taste good."

Shuangshuang, still half asleep, sat up against the wall, her eyes not yet open, and instinctively replied:

"No, meat tastes good even when it's cold!"

Ye Wenxue affectionately rubbed her little head, then hurriedly carried several bowls to the kitchen.

Fortunately, the fire was burning brightly enough, and the rice was already cooked.

Ye Wenxue had been planning to buy grain ever since she saw it in the courtyard at the end of the village last night.

I cooked extra food this morning to treat the children who had been out all day.

It goes perfectly with the meat and vegetables that the young master in the blue robe brought.

The food had just been served and hadn't been taken inside when Shuangshuang, Sanyuan, and Siwang rushed into the kitchen.

The quacking sounds were like hundreds of ducks having a meeting.

"Mom, meat! There's meat on the table!"

"Mom, where did this meat come from? It smells so good!"

"Mom, let us get the bowls. You go sit down and eat."

"mother......"

Ye Wenxue felt dizzy and helpless, and said, "Are you going to eat or not? Quickly bring the food inside."

Both of them smiled and replied, "Okay!"

The family sat at the table, each with a half-bowl of rice that was half dry and half porridge in front of them.

Ye Wenxue placed a piece of stewed pork, tender and flavorful, on each child's plate and said with a smile, "Eat up."

Shuangshuang and Siwang cheered in unison, then buried their faces in their bowls and began to eat heartily.

Even the steady Dazhuang and the mild-mannered Sanyuan couldn't help but speed up their eating.

Ye Wenxue's gaze swept over the children who were engrossed in eating, and she felt a pang of sadness.

She mashed up some minced meat, mixed it with rice porridge, and fed it to Yuanyuan, promising her word by word:

"Mother will never let you go hungry again. We'll eat meat every meal!"

Shuangshuang, Sanyuan, and Siwang were so engrossed in eating that they didn't hear anything.

Da Zhuang's eyes reddened, and his lips moved, but he didn't say anything.

The children hadn't eaten meat in a long time, and they didn't even leave the broth behind, mixing it with rice and pouring it all into Ye Wenxue's bowl.

Under the eager gaze of the children, Ye Wenxue divided two portions of rice into each child's bowl, then stood up and quickly finished her meal.

Dazhuang looked helpless and urged Shuangshuang and the other two to eat quickly and then go wash the dishes.

Shuangshuang and Siwang were caught climbing over the wall last night, and they're worried that Ye Wenxue will bring up old grievances.

Upon hearing his elder brother's words, he quickly and diligently stacked the bowls and went to work.

Fortunately, we filled up a lot of water by the puddle yesterday, so we don't have to find another way to get water.

After the meal, Ye Wenxue took out all the silver in her house and counted it.

The original owner had thirty-seven coins hidden under the stove, plus three taels of silver recovered from the village head, and fifty-three coins scavenged from the villains of Shanqing Village.

In addition to the two taels of silver and three hundred and twenty-five copper coins stolen along the way, and the seven copper coins that Shuangshuang Siwang found yesterday...

In total, there were five taels of silver and four hundred and twenty-two copper coins.

Ye Wenxue thought for a moment, then packed up all the broken silver and copper coins and took them with her. She left Dazhuang and Da'e to guard the cart and the family's belongings, and set off with the other four children to the courtyard at the end of the village.

They followed happily, skipping and jumping around non-stop:

"Mother, is there enough silver? If not, let's search the empty houses again; maybe we can find a few copper coins."

Ye Wenxue shook her head:

"Where did you get so much money that you accidentally left over? Don't run around."
