Chapter 28 Seclusion



"You have nowhere to go? Why did you come to this remote mountain forest?"

This person clearly lacks combat skills and has poor survival abilities in the wild. He can even fall into a trap and injure his foot while picking herbs. Coming to the deep mountains and forests is just asking for death.

Su Jiu carefully put the herbs back, then glanced hesitantly at Ye Wenxue:

“I have some knowledge of herbal medicine and often travel between the village and the mountain. But... things have gotten chaotic down in the mountains, so I decided to live in seclusion here.”

Ye Wenxue became interested: "Are you from Shuixi Village?"

Su Jiu shook his head blankly: "No, I'm from Wang'an Village."

Wang'an Village?

Never heard of it.

It doesn't seem to be in any of the surrounding villages.

Ye Wenxue decided not to ask any further questions, since she knew the answer anyway.

Su Jiu looked at her, hesitant to speak, "What about you? I've heard that this mountain isn't safe, that a bunch of bandits and robbers live there, you..."

Ye Wenxue raised an eyebrow, recalling the footprints scattered along the paths behind Shuixi Village:

"Like you, I've come to live in seclusion in the mountains."

"How can these be the same! Aren't you afraid, aren't you afraid...?"

"If you're not afraid, why should I be?"

Su Jiu choked, glancing dejectedly at the scratches on his hands from his escape, and fell silent.

After a while, Ye Wenxue regained her strength and rotated her wrist as she was about to peek out to check on the wild boar when she suddenly heard the sound of several arrows whistling through the air.

The two wild boars below, howling loudly, were shot but not killed; they fled in terror.

Ye Wenxue and the other quickly took cover, their eyes meeting as they reached a tacit understanding.
