Hand over Chapter 6

Ye Wenxue couldn't imagine that the soft, round little girl would grow up to have such an extremely twisted personality.

She couldn't resist gently pinching the soft little face, finding a comfortable position, and began feeding Yuanyuan right there.

...It's supposed to be rice water with eggs, but in reality, the whole pot is almost entirely rice water.

Eggs are extremely scarce.

But the hungry children weren't picky; they ate with gusto, almost licking the bowls clean.

Da Zhuang took a small sip, put down his bowl, and turned to urge Ye Wenxue to eat something.

The town was in chaos again a few days ago, there was not much work to do, and the family had no income.

There's very little food available now, but he's young and strong, so he can handle it.

But Mother, bearing many injuries from working to support the family, had traveled all morning and couldn't afford to go hungry any longer.

Shuangshuang, Sanyuan, and Siwang nodded in response, their little faces serious.

Ye Wenxue looked at the half-pot of rice porridge left to make the egg:

"I can't eat that much, boss. Have another bowl. You still have to push the cart this afternoon."

"Shuangshuang, Sanyuan, Siwang, you too, if you're still hungry, eat some more."

Ignoring his aching stomach, Da Zhuang was about to continue trying to persuade her when Ye Wenxue urged him to eat quickly so they could continue their journey.

The other three kids looked at each other.

Shuangshuang cleverly took the bowl from Ye Wenxue's hand, filled it with a large amount, and stuffed it back into the bowl.

He served another bowl to his elder brother, urging the two of them to eat quickly.

Her voice was clear and melodious: "Mother, elder brother, stop refusing to eat, everyone, eat!"

Ye Wenxue looked at the rice porridge with egg in the bowl and couldn't help but laugh.

She had never been a mother and didn't know how to be one.

He was a little unaccustomed to being given gifts from his daughter for free.

Moreover, this was the first time Ye Wenxue had ever received food from someone on her own initiative.

—In modern times, all teammates are terrible, and if you want to get something to eat, you have to see who has the biggest fist.

Although Ye Wenxue won every time, the meaning of actively sharing food and having to offer food when you can't beat her is completely different.

She hugged Yuanyuan tightly with one arm and, under the smiling gazes of the children, drank directly from the bowl.

I must say, it tastes pretty good.

The quantity was a bit small.

Ye Wenxue fell into deep thought.

Dazhuang watched her eat and started eating too, glancing back every now and then at the cart loaded with all their belongings.

Before she had finished eating, Ye Wenxue's ears twitched as she suddenly heard several heavy footsteps.

Immediately afterwards, a powerful voice rang out.

"What a lousy place! There's not even water in the stream, yet they claim to have top-quality goods. I bet we'll all starve to death before we even get our hands on the goods!"

"Alright, alright, let's look ahead along the stream again. If it still doesn't work, we'll think of something else. We can't just starve to death... Hmm, I think I can smell the aroma of eggs."

"How could this be? Where did this come from in this godforsaken place... Wait, I smell it too, could it be..."

Ye Wenxue reacted quickly, put down the bowl, greeted the four children, covered Yuanyuan's head with both hands, and ran towards the cart.

Ignoring the still-burning fire, Dazhuang picked up the earthenware pot and called for the three little ones to hurry up and follow.

The group of people who were talking quickly came along the stream, drawn by the fragrance.

A thin but attractive widow, accompanied by several children, stood guard beside the cart as if facing a formidable enemy.

The earthenware pot in my hand was still emitting a fragrant aroma.

The leading man completely disregarded Ye Wenxue and her children.

His gaze was fixed on the earthenware pot and the cart behind them, and he greeted them casually:

"Finally found something to eat! Brothers, come quick! A cartload of stuff should last us a few days."

He acted extremely arrogantly, as if he were at his own home, and everything on the cart was his.

As soon as he finished speaking, the people following behind quickened their pace and caught up.

Upon seeing the family and their cart by the puddle, my eyes lit up:

"Little wench, hurry up and hand over all the rations, and serve these masters a few more times. If they're in a good mood, they might let these brats go."

Ye Wenxue, however, keenly noticed the greed in the eyes of the men as they glanced at the children.

She scanned the heads of the people opposite her; there were six, both men and women.

The five men looked fierce, while the woman seemed to feel a mixture of pity and schadenfreude.

Ye Wenxue pulled back Dazhuang, who was blocking her way, and shoved Yuanyuan into his arms, giving the person opposite her a half-smile:

"What did you just say? I didn't hear you clearly."

With one hand behind her back, she secretly untied the rope binding the goose.

The men opposite burst into laughter and started uttering vulgarities.

Da Zhuang was trembling with anger and was about to pick up his wood-chopping knife to shut them up, but Ye Wenxue stopped him.

She whispered instructions to Dazhuang, Shuangshuang, and Sanyuan:

"You guys guard the cart, take good care of Siwang and Yuanyuan, and leave the rest to me."

The three older children gritted their teeth and agreed.

Even though they were worried, they knew that rushing to help would not only fail to help, but would also become a burden to Ye Wenxue.

The man in the lead looked around cautiously for a moment and realized that there was no one else around except for the widow.

He immediately interrupted the group of people who kept babbling on and on:

"Stop talking nonsense and get to work!"

They escaped from villages several counties away to this place not by mere words.

Before they could surround her, Ye Wenxue grabbed a wood-chopping knife and charged forward menacingly.

He cleaved the person charging in front with a few swift strokes, then struck the two closest men.

The four little ones, their eyes filled with worry, immediately widened their eyes.

Siwang clung tightly to Sanyuan, staring wide-eyed at Ye Wenxue's nimble figure:

"Mother... Mother is so amazing!"

Dazhuang covered Xiaoyuan's eyes, which were constantly peeking out, and gave a complicated "hmm".

Seeing that two of his brothers were seriously injured in less than half a cup of tea's time, the leader quickly took a few steps back and raised his voice:

"Misunderstanding! It's all a misunderstanding! We brothers were just joking around."

"Everyone has been starving for days, with no food or water, and we were really about to collapse, so I was just joking with you guys."

He shoved the only woman forward:

"Don't believe me... ask her. She was unlucky; her whole family was killed, and we were the ones who saved her!"

Ye Wenxue stopped to catch her breath, feeling the weakness and limpness in her body, and shook her head secretly.

The original owner went to town to find work after only a few days of postpartum confinement, before her body had fully recovered.

Plus, I haven't had a proper meal in months, and I've been traveling all morning, so I'm about to give up.

The person opposite her paused, thinking that this woman was just a brute with no experience and had been fooled, so he quickly gave the woman who had been pushed a wink.

When they encountered enemies they couldn't defeat along the way, they would send out women who looked weaker, and they always succeeded.

Despite her seemingly weak and helpless appearance, she can be far more vicious and ruthless than them when she gets serious.
