The old lady saw the small steamed buns on the plate and immediately came out of the house to hug Jin Dashan.
"Grandma, I, I..."
Li Lanfang patted Jin Dashan's shoulders and said, "Good, Grandma's eldest grandson, you have such great skills, good!"
Liang Shuyan instructed, "Eldest daughter-in-law, check if the steamed buns have gotten cold. If they have, tidy them up, and we'll go to town to sell them!"
Upon hearing that they were selling steamed buns, Liu's eyes lit up. She leaned over and tugged at her mother-in-law's sleeve, saying, "Mother, let your daughter-in-law go with you. I can hawk the buns, run errands, and most importantly, I can carry things!"
"Okay, you're in! Dashan, come with me to town to sell steamed buns. Go inside and wash up properly, and change into some clean clothes!"
Upon hearing this, Jin Dashan happily went back to his room to change his clothes, just like a child.
At the door, the sound of a donkey cart came from outside. With a whoosh, Jin Erniu jumped off the cart, his arms bulging with money, looking smug and humming a little tune. He swaggered in and headed towards the old lady's room. Unexpectedly, Liang Shuyan's eyes were fixed on the smug Jin Erniu!
Jin Erniu glanced around and realized that everyone's eyes were fixed on him as he rushed in through the door. He immediately knew what had happened and hurriedly stammered, "Oh, Mom, I went out for a bit!"
"Go out, weren't you going to the fields to weed? Hey, Erniu, the wheat was just planted, how come the weeds are growing so fast?"
Zhang and Liu chuckled, their lips pursed. Niu Niu, however, was far from boastful. She clutched her stomach and burst into laughter: "Second brother, you can't even lie properly! You even told Bei Bei. I never thought Bei Bei was the best at betraying people!"
This time, Jin Erniu knew what was going on. He looked at Beibei, who quickly ran to Liang Shuyan's side and grabbed her sleeve, saying, "Grandma, Daddy, he... he glared at me?"
Grandma Jin immediately retorted, "Liang Shuyan, what's wrong? Are you lecturing Erniu or me?"
Liang Shuyan fell silent. This old lady always stood up for her grandson at crucial moments. Really, he spoiled all these children.
Originally, she wanted to teach Jin Erniu a lesson for lying, but she didn't expect the old lady to step in, so she couldn't say anything. She said angrily, "Dashan, Erniu's wife, let's go!"
On the donkey cart, a steamer basket was lifted out and placed on the cart. Liu ran in, picked up a bamboo basket, and handed the steamed bun with the big gray wolf she had drawn to Jin Erniu.
"Mother said it was left for you!"
When Jin Erniu saw the hideous wolf on the steamed bun, he was so frightened that he almost dropped it.
"It's a steamed bun, not a big bad wolf! You brat, come in here right now, Grandma has something to ask you!" Grandma Jin called Jin Erniu in.
The old lady closed the door and whispered, "Erniu, how is it? Has Grandma's embroidery been sold yet?"
Erniu nodded happily: "Grandma, I wanted to tell you this good news! A wealthy young lady from the capital has taken a liking to your embroidery and insists on having it embroidered on her clothes. The shopkeeper immediately accepted your design and even said that all the embroidery in their shop will be handled by you from now on. It seems you'll be quite busy from now on! Oh, and here's the deposit!"
Li Lanfang glanced at the silver in the purse and her eyes widened in astonishment: "Ah, so much! Ten taels of silver!"
"Grandma, Erniu has gone to work, so don't overwork yourself. I smacked my mother today, and she'll definitely punish me when she gets back!"
Li Lanfang grabbed Jin Erniu's sleeve and said, "Erniu, this two taels of silver is money Grandma gave you for your escape. Remember, take this money and don't tell your mother!"
"Grandma, I don't want it. We don't need the money. My mother prepares all the food and supplies at home. These things are of no use to us!"
Li Lanfang was frustrated. How old was this child? He was so stubborn and couldn't stand money. He really was a blockhead!
"Listen to me, take this money and save it up. If you want to start a business, you can definitely use it. How could you not need it?"
Jin Erniu's eyes lit up. He stuffed two taels of silver into his purse and said in a low voice, "Grandma, thank you!"
Liang Shuyan sat on the donkey cart. The road was bumpy and uneven, and the steamer baskets on the cart made a crackling sound. Liu Shi was observant and found a rope from somewhere and simply tied the steamer baskets up.
"I never knew you had such a keen eye!"
Sitting next to her mother-in-law, Liu said softly, "Mother, after I'm done with all this work, I'd like to go back to my parents' home!"
Liang Shuyan then realized that Liu's family home was in Yujiagou. There was an elderly mother in her sixties, an older brother, and a sister-in-law. The sister-in-law was lazy and good-for-nothing, and the brother was a spendthrift who gambled away any money he had and frequented brothels. And the old lady of the Liu family always sided with her son. When she saw Liu, she just kept ordering her daughter to give her brother money, but never asked how her daughter was doing.
That's why the original owner almost never allowed Liu to return to her parents' home. The reason Liu brought it up this time was because she felt that her mother-in-law was different from before.
Liang Shuyan pondered for a moment and said, "Alright, after we sell all the steamed buns today, buy some things for your mother to take with you, and have Erniu take you there in a donkey cart!"
Liu tightly grasped Liang Shuyan's hands: "Mother! Your daughter-in-law will definitely take good care of you!"
Before we knew it, we had arrived in town.
Luhua Town was truly bustling with activity. People were carrying loads of food and shouting as they hawked their wares, haggling over prices at their stalls, and selling lanterns and clay figurines on both sides of the street.
"Mother, let's stay here. There seem to be more people here. Look, there are so many carriages parked here, which means there are more wealthy people here." As expected, Madam Liu is really clever; she can even see that.
Zhao Dashan exclaimed excitedly, "Mom, look! They even sell clay figurines here! What skillful hands these craftsmen have!"
Liang Shuyan rolled her eyes at Dashan: "You, don't always envy others. Aren't you skillful with your own hands?"
Zhang parked the donkey cart, opened the steamer basket, and began to call out, "Freshly steamed buns! Unique and exquisite little buns! Come and take a look!"
Zhang finished speaking; she had forgotten to ask her mother-in-law the price of the steamed buns.
"Mom, how much is one of these steamed buns?"
Liang Shuyan thought for a moment. The largest steamed buns on the market cost two coins each, but the small steamed buns she made were different. First of all, they had a different visual appeal, and secondly, they were made with the craftsmanship of the mountains. Where could she find such craftsmanship?
"Five coins each!"
