Chapter Forty-Six: The Skillful Hands of the Mountain

Li Zheng had no choice but to come in and eat. He couldn't resist eating two bowls of Liang Shuyan's noodles, and Yu Lao Er also ate a bowl.

"This is so delicious! These noodles are so small, but one bite is so refreshing and tangy. Aunt Dashan's cooking skills are really on par with a master chef!"

After a long pause, Yu Lao Er finally managed to say, "Compared to Da Shan's wife, my wife is just wasting food. She's not even cooking."

There was a burst of laughter at the dinner table.

After finishing their meal, the two daughters-in-law cleaned up the stove and pots. Liang Shuyan felt a little tired, so she went back to the house to rest for a while.

Suddenly remembering the flour his daughter-in-law had prepared, he quickly washed his face and rushed to the kitchen.

Zhang bent down and took a bowl of noodles out of the pot, placed it on the cutting board, and carefully gathered up the dough flakes that had risen in the pot.

"Mother, the dough has risen. Do you think we should start making steamed buns now?" Zhang asked.

Liang Shuyan took out some colors from the system and mixed them into the dough in different equal parts, creating several different colors.

Zhang washed her hands, carried in some firewood, and placed it on the stove door.

Curious, Liu followed her sister-in-law around, wondering what she was up to after finishing her meal.

"Mother, sister-in-law, we just finished eating, and you're already cooking again?"

Liang Shuyan glanced at Liu Shi: "Make some dough, make some small steamed buns, and see if we can sell them?"

Madam Liu exclaimed in surprise, "Mother, are you going to start a business? The crops have just been planted, are you really going to start a business?"

"Stop arguing, hurry up and wash your hands, come and help!"

On the cutting board, there were doughs of different colors. Liu and Zhang looked at each other and pointed at the doughs on the cutting board, saying, "Mother, how come these perfectly good doughs have changed color?"

In ancient times, apart from the common colors of vegetables and black and white, other colors were rarely seen. Now, red and yellow appeared on the cutting board. How could the two daughters-in-law not be surprised?

"This dough is made from vegetable juice, this one is made from spinach juice, and this one is made from persimmon juice. Quickly, follow my example and knead these doughs until smooth. Put them here. These will be made into cute little rabbits, and these will be made into little pandas, puppies, and the like!"

Zhang's eyes were fixed on her mother-in-law's hands. She watched as her mother-in-law picked up a rolling pin and began to roll out the dough into a small circle. She then wrapped the dough inside and used chopsticks to draw a rabbit shape on it with colored paper.

"Mom, how do you know how to make these things? They look even better than the pastries and breads you buy outside!"

Liang Shuyan looked at her daughter-in-law with a serious expression: "Alright, hurry up and wash the steamer basket clean, pour water into the pot, wash the steamer cloth clean as well, lay it out, and start the fire in the stove, make sure it's burning brightly!"

Zhang clapped her hands: "Good, Mother, these are my specialties!"

"This child has one redeeming quality: he never slacks off!"

Liu took a piece of dough and, imitating her mother-in-law, drew a puppy on it. She happily held up the dough and said, "Mother, look how cute my puppy is!"

Liang Shuyan frowned, confused for a long time, and pointed at the strange-looking thing on the pancake, saying, "You, you drew a puppy, but why does it look more like a big gray wolf to me?"

Liu pouted, "Since it's so ugly, then daughter-in-law should just rub it. No one would dare to buy something so ugly if you took it out to sell."

Liang Shuyan waved her hand and said, "No need. Since you've already drawn it, it represents your hard work. Whether it looks good or not, it's something you made. When it's steamed, Mom will give it to the second son!"

Upon hearing her mother-in-law's words, Liu's expression became even more complicated: "Mother, if Erniu sees this, won't he have something to say about me and laugh at me for the rest of his life?"

"Don't worry, Mom has a plan. That brat wouldn't dare!"

A burst of giggles came from the kitchen.

Jin Dashan was very curious and peeked into the kitchen. He saw that Liu Shi's face was covered in flour, and she was holding a chopstick in her hand, drawing on the dough with a very serious expression.

“Mom, you drew this mountain painting with chopsticks, but I can draw it with an embroidery needle, and it will be even more beautiful than yours!”

Liang Shuyan looked at Jin Dashan in disbelief: "Dashan, look at those big hands, how can they do such delicate work? Go away, don't come and join in the fun."

Zhao Dashan said seriously, "Mom, isn't this just drawing on a flatbread? Dashan really can do it. If you don't believe me, Dashan will find a needle and try it. If it doesn't look good, Dashan won't draw anymore!"

Zhang immediately defended her husband: "Mother, please let Dashan give it a try. Dashan is really skillful. Since he can draw on bamboo boards, this is no problem for him."

A moment later, Dashan ran over with an embroidery needle, pointed to a piece of dough on the cutting board, and said, "Mom, I'll use this to draw. If I don't draw it well, I'll crumple it up and you can draw it again, okay?"

Liang Shuyan nodded: "Okay, you're going to draw. What do you want to draw?"

Da Shan looked up and thought for a moment: "Then let's draw our family's Big Blackie?"

Liu chuckled: "Mother just said that the dog I drew looked like a wolf, and now you want to draw our big wolfhound as soon as you arrive? Okay, draw it, draw it and let's see who draws the ugliest one!"

Several people gathered around. Da Shan held a piece of dough in his hand and an embroidery needle in his right, carefully drawing. Unexpectedly, every stroke he made was so precise. The chopsticks might have been a bit too thick, making the outline less clear and three-dimensional, but with the embroidery needle, the outline was truly perfect, especially the shape of the eyes and tail. He drew them so well that it looked as if Da Hei was really placed on the dough.

Liang Shuyan was stunned. She never expected that her seemingly honest and simple son would have such a talent. The embroidery needle seemed to be a paintbrush in his hands, which he handled with ease.

Seeing that Da Shan had sweat on his forehead, Zhang took out a handkerchief from her sleeve, stood on a wooden stool, and wiped the sweat off Da Shan's forehead.

"Wow, big brother, you've brought a giant black cat onto the flatbread! I'm so scared, I don't even dare to eat this little steamed bun anymore?"

Liang Shuyan was extremely excited and pointed to the big black figure on the pancake, saying, "Dashan, you spend all your time with Dahei and know him very well, so you were able to draw Dahei?"

Da Shan wiped the sweat from his forehead: "Mother, what do you want to paint?"

Pointing to the small patterns drawn in the steamer, Zhang said, "Little rabbits, squirrels, flowers and plants, anything can be drawn!"

Jin Dashan then drew a bright peony on the pancake, with two butterflies fluttering on it.

Liang Shuyan pondered for a moment: "That's right. We can't let Dashan's skill go to waste like this. Since Dashan has such a skill, let him paint some first, dip his brush in paint, and try it out. If it sells well, this will be a unique business!"

Da Shan held his breath and concentrated, then painted another peony, so lifelike that Liang Shuyan excitedly hugged him: "Good son, I never knew you had this talent! Good, from today onwards, Da Shan, you will be our Little Mantou's art consultant!"

"Art consultant? What's that, sis?"
