Chapter 33 The God of Misfortune

The elevator slowly ascended and soon reached their desired floor. In the corridor, patients and their families hurried back and forth.

Hospitals have never been a pleasant place. It can be said that they are a gathering place for both the hopes that humans most desire and the despair that comes when hopes are shattered.

Bai Yuehu stopped at the door of Ward 102. Lu Qingjiu looked through the glass window and saw a young girl lying in the ward. The girl was wearing a white hospital gown, and her bald head showed her blue scalp. She looked in good spirits and was looking down at a book in her hand.

"Are you going in?" Lu Qingjiu asked in a low voice.

Bai Yuehu nodded and knocked on the ward door.

"Who is it? Come in." The girl raised her head and said when she heard the knock on the door.

Bai Yuehu pushed the door open and walked in. The girl smiled when she saw him and said, "Ah, Yuehu, long time no see."

Bai Yuehu said, "Long time no see."

The two seemed to be acquainted. The girl greeted Bai Yuehu warmly and told him to sit down. Then her eyes fell on Lu Qingjiu's face. She said, "Who is this...?"

"This is my friend Lu Qingjiu." Bai Yuehu introduced.

The girl smiled and said, "Hello, my name is Hou Xuejia."

A very ordinary name, a very ordinary appearance. Lu Qingjiu did not see any unusual characteristics in her. If she did not know Bai Yuehu and seemed to have some relationship with Shui Feng, Lu Qingjiu would think that she was just an ordinary human being like himself.

"You do your own thing, I'll sit for a while and then leave." Bai Yuehu said to Hou Xuejia.

Hou Xuejia smiled and said, "Let me peel an apple for you two."

"Let me do it." Seeing her actions, Lu Qingjiu hurriedly took the apple and knife from her hands. It was a bit too much for two grown men like them to let a sick little girl peel the apple.

Hou Xuejia didn't argue with Lu Qingjiu. She smiled and handed the apple to Lu Qingjiu: "Okay."

When she extended her hand, her wrists, hidden beneath her hospital gown, were revealed. Compared to an average person's wrists, they were much thinner. The backs of her hands were bruised, clearly from prolonged IV drips. It was unclear how long this girl had been in the hospital.

"How have you been lately?" Bai Yuehu asked.

"I'm fine." Hou Xuejia sat aside, tilting her head as she watched Lu Qingjiu diligently peeling an apple, and said with a smile, "My condition is very stable. The doctor said there's no major problem."

"Yes." Bai Yuehu said, "That's good."

"Yeah," Hou Xuejia said. "I'm lucky." She giggled. "When the doctor informed me, he said there was good news and bad news, and asked me which one I wanted to hear first."

Bai Yuehu and Lu Qingjiu just listened.

"I'm already unlucky enough, so I'll just listen to the bad news this time." As she spoke, her face lit up, not like a patient who had been bedridden for a long time. "Then the doctor said I might not live long."

When Lu Qingjiu heard this, he paused and asked, "What about the good news?" He felt that this was already the worst news, and he really couldn't think of any good news.

"Then the doctor told me that they named a new virus after me." Hou Xuejia said this and burst into laughter.

Lu Qingjiu: “…”

White Moon Fox: "..."

Both were shocked by the deadly joke.

Seeing that the two of them couldn't laugh, Hou Xuejia touched his bald head and said, "Why, isn't it funny?"

"Well, that's funny." Lu Qingjiu could only say this in a flattering tone.

"Okay." Hou Xuejia said, "It seems you have a high sense of humor..."

Lu Qingjiu wanted to sigh, but she felt that Hou Xuejia was so active that her sigh seemed a little inappropriate. Fortunately, Bai Yuehu's words grabbed Hou Xuejia's attention at this time. He said, "Where is Shui Feng? Why isn't he here?"

"He went out for something," Hou Xuejia said. "He might not be back until tonight."

Bai Yuehu nodded and said, "You can take a rest. We will sit for a while and then leave."

Hou Xuejia obediently lay back on the hospital bed and said, "Then I won't see you off. I don't know when I'll see you next time..."

"There's always a chance." Bai Yuehu said, "Sake, let's go."

Lu Qingjiu nodded and left the ward with Bai Yuehu.

"Is she an ordinary person?" Lu Qingjiu always felt that this matter was a little unusual.

"Yes." Bai Yuehu replied.

"How long have you known each other?" Lu Qingjiu asked, "It seems... you come here often."

"Not long." Bai Yuehu said, "About ten years. I come over to take a look occasionally."

Lu Qingjiu: “…” More than ten years is a very long time for humans, but for immortal species like the White Moon Fox, it is just a moment in their lives.

"Are we going back like this?" Lu Qingjiu asked.

"No." Bai Yuehu said, "Wait for Shuifeng to come over. I need to do something."

Lu Qingjiu said hello.

The two of them waited downstairs in the ward. After about twenty minutes, Shui Feng came hurriedly. What surprised Lu Qingjiu was that all the wounds on his face had disappeared without a trace of bruises. He had completely recovered to his best condition.

Bai Yuehu looked at him coldly with a very bad attitude, but Shui Feng didn't mind and said cheerfully, "Want to go over now?"

"Yeah." said Bai Yuehu.

"What about him? Waiting for us in the hospital?" Shui Feng asked.

"Let's go together." Bai Yuehu said, "He knows I'm a fox." When he said this, he glanced at Shui Feng and emphasized the word "fox".

Shui Feng: "...Okay." His expression was a little subtle.

Lu Qingjiu saw all of this, but pretended not to notice anything and just looked at Bai Yuehu seriously. Bai Yuehu naturally grabbed Lu Qingjiu's wrist and said, "Follow me."

Lu Qingjiu followed him obediently.

Shui Feng walked forward, and the place he walked to became more and more remote. A thick layer of mist rose around them, blocking out the surrounding worldly scenes.

Lu Qingjiu wasn't particularly frightened by Bai Yuehu's lead. He soon realized they had walked from the hospital's back garden to a completely unfamiliar place. The sky was black, shrouded in thick, dark clouds, with occasional flashes of lightning visible through them. The ground was littered with jagged rocks, and the wind howled fiercely. Shui Feng, walking in front, felt a little embarrassed and turned away, saying, "Don't be afraid. This place wasn't like this before. It's just that resources have been a bit tight these past few years..."

Hearing the hidden meaning in Shui Feng's words, Lu Qingjiu widened his eyes: "Can this place still be renovated?"

"Of course not." Shui Feng winked at Lu Qingjiu, "Did Bai Yuehu take you to his house?"

Lu Qingjiu glanced at Bai Yuehu and recalled the wonders he saw when Bai Yuehu took him up the mountain that day. Could it be that that place was Bai Yuehu's home, and he had decorated it all by himself?

Bai Yuehu said coldly: "Don't listen to his nonsense."

Shui Feng chuckled twice.

This place really makes people feel uncomfortable. There is a dead air everywhere. Because it is surrounded by black fog, Lu Qingjiu can't see the scenery in the distance clearly.

Bai Yuehu, who had been holding Lu Qingjiu's hand, let go and told him to stay put. Then, a thick black mist rose from Bai Yuehu's body, enveloping both him and Shui Feng.

The black fog continued to spread, rising into the dark sky and beginning to stir the clouds.

The clouds gradually formed a vortex shape. Lu Qingjiu heard a violent thunder in the sky, followed by the roar of a wild beast. It seemed that something flew into the air and started fighting in the clouds. The dark clouds covered the traces of the beast, making it difficult for Lu Qingjiu to see the specific situation inside. He could only see the occasional sharp claws and fangs exposed from the clouds, as well as a pair of red eyes that seemed familiar.

The deafening roar of the beast made people's bodies tremble. Lu Qingjiu stood under the swirling clouds and felt so small. In this devastating momentum, he even guessed that he was not as big as one of the beast's claws. If the beast pounced down from the sky, he might lose his life before he could even call for help.

Just when Lu Qingjiu was daydreaming, he heard another shrill scream. Judging from the scream, the person who made the sound was Shui Feng. He seemed to have lost the fight with the beast and was seriously injured.

What were they doing? Were they just fighting? Lu Qingjiu found it strange. However, this scene was not something you would normally see. And although the prototype of the White Moon Fox was not very clear, judging from the details, it did not look like the legendary fox at all...

Lu Qingjiu showed a suspicious expression and looked more carefully.

After about twenty minutes, the sounds of fighting gradually subsided, and the clouds began to dissipate. From the black fog before Lu Qingjiu, Bai Yuehu, standing, and Shui Feng, lying next to him, nearly dead, emerged. Bai Yuehu's body was covered in blood, and his eyes were frighteningly cold. Just as Lu Qingjiu suspected they had fallen out, Shui Feng, lying next to him, burst into laughter and said, "Thanks, brother."

Bai Yuehu casually threw a cloth bag to Shui Feng.

Although Shui Feng looked like he was dying, he still used all his strength to hold the cloth bag in his hand. He smiled at Bai Yuehu and said again, "Thank you."

Bai Yuehu said, "You simply deserve it."

Shui Feng said, "Alas, that's all I have. Don't rush to leave tonight. I'll treat you to a meal."

Bai Yuehu said coldly: "Who wants to eat your food?"

Shui Feng glared at him and said, "Hey, don't say that. Back then, having a meal with me was something that everyone could only dream of..."

"What about now?" Bai Yuehu didn't give him face.

"Now." Shui Feng laughed awkwardly, "Now I don't eat. I've given up eating."

Lu Qingjiu stood by and listened to the two people talking. He could see that Bai Yuehu was actually nice to Shui Feng. Although he said he was impatient, he didn't actually plan to leave. Instead, he stood beside Shui Feng and kept looking at him.

Shui Feng's mouth was full of blood. He coughed a few times, spat out the blood, and struggled to get up from the ground: "Let's go, it's almost done."

Bai Yuehu turned around, took Lu Qingjiu's hand and walked out without looking back.

But when he was about to walk out, Lu Qingjiu remembered something. He reached into his trouser pocket and felt around to confirm that the bag Shui Feng was holding tightly in his hand was the one he had given him at home, except that the bag in Shui Feng's hand was much bigger.

The three of them left along the same way they came in.

Shui Feng, who had almost recovered, was now bruised and swollen again after a fight with Bai Yuehu, and looked even worse than before. Lu Qingjiu asked him worriedly if he was okay, but Shui Feng waved his hand nonchalantly and said, "It's okay, I'm thick-skinned, I'll be fine in a couple of days."

He coughed dryly and said, "But please give this to Xuejia for me. I'm afraid she'll get worried if she sees me like this."

He said, handing over the bag.

Bai Yuehu refused rudely: "If you want to give it to you, give it to yourself."

Shui Feng said, "No way... Help people to the end, Yuehu, please help me just this once."

Bai Yuehu walked forward without saying a word. Lu Qingjiu wanted to follow him, but Shui Feng grabbed his arm.

"Sake, sake!" Shui Feng approached Lu Qingjiu with a shy face, "He won't help me, please help me."

Lu Qingjiu: "...This is not good."

Shui Feng said, "I really don't want to go in front of her. She'll be sad to see me like this. She's very weak right now. If she sees me like this, she'll definitely be worried. I don't know how to explain..."

Lu Qingjiu was a little hesitant, but Shui Feng was holding Lu Qingjiu and pretending not to let him go unless he agreed. Lu Qingjiu glanced at Bai Yuehu, who had already walked a long way and had no intention of coming back to help him. He could only nod slightly and said, "Okay..."

Shui Feng then smiled.

Lu Qingjiu took the bag from Shui Feng and trotted to catch up with Bai Yuehu. He said, "Yuehu... Shui Feng insisted that I help..."

Bai Yuehu said, "Go ahead. I don't want to see them anymore."

Lu Qingjiu said: “Okay, then you wait for me outside the hospital?”

Bai Yuehu hummed and headed towards the hospital exit. Lu Qingjiu lowered his head and looked at the cloth bag in his hand. He gently squeezed it. The bag was made of satin with an exquisite tiger pattern embroidered on it. The thing inside was very soft, and it looked like some animal hair...

Lu Qingjiu guessed that the contents of the bag might be the same as what Shui Feng had given him yesterday. He took the bag and went to the inpatient department with Shui Feng. As Shui Feng had instructed, he gave the cloth bag to Hou Xuejia.

Hou Xuejia seemed accustomed to the bag. She took it and put it in her coat pocket. She smiled sweetly as she held the bag and said, "Did Shuifeng ask you to give it to me? Where is he? Why doesn't he come here himself every time?"

“He left early for something.” Lu Qingjiu lied.

"Gone?" Hou Xuejia frowned. "Did he get into a fight again? I told him to stop, but he never listened..."

Although it sounded like a blame, there was more heartache in Hou Xuejia's eyes. Obviously, what she cared about was not the conflict between Shui Feng and others, but the injury Shui Feng suffered as a result.

Lu Qingjiu said: "Have you known each other for a long time?"

"Of course." It's said that one of the three things in the world that can't be concealed is love. This statement was perfectly embodied by Hou Xuejia. Although she looked haggard, there was a gentle light in her eyes every time she mentioned Shui Feng. She said, "Yes, we have known each other for a long time. Back then, I was a child with extremely bad luck. I was playing with other children on the roadside when the manhole cover under my feet broke and I fell in... I thought I was going to die in the sewer, but someone saved me..."

Lu Qingjiu asked, "Is it a water salary?"

"Yeah." Hou Xuejia curled her eyes, "It's him."

Lu Qingjiu had already vaguely guessed the truth of the matter. He pursed his lips and said, "Then do you know who he is?"

"Who is it? Isn't he just Shui Feng?" Hou Xuejia held her chin, her tone filled with happiness. "I've had bad luck since I was a child, until I met Shui Feng. He's different from me, he's incredibly lucky. Hahaha, I thought we could live like this forever..." When she mentioned forever, the bright light in her eyes dimmed, and her smile became a little far-fetched. She said, "It's just that I seem to have really bad luck."

A rare disease that occurs in one million people has befallen her. A few years ago, doctors said she had an incurable disease and would not live more than a month. Shui Feng almost collapsed after hearing the news and disappeared for several days. Just when Hou Xuejia thought he would not show up again, he brought a cloth bag.

"I went to the gods to ask for this bag." Shui Feng held her hand, his voice trembling as he said, "With this bag, you won't die... You definitely won't die."

Hou Xuejia listened to Shui Feng's words, thinking he was desperate and seeking such psychological comfort, but she didn't say what she was thinking. After all, if Shui Feng believed her, she might feel better. So Hou Xuejia smiled and accepted Shui Feng's gift, telling him that she would definitely get better, she would...

A month later, a miracle happened. The doctor found a drug that could control Hou Xuejia's condition. Although it could not completely cure her, it could barely maintain her life.

This is the luckiest thing that has ever happened to Hou Xuejia since she became ill.

After Lu Qingjiu finished listening to the two people's story, his eyes fell on the cloth bag, and he guessed what was inside the bag.

There is no doubt that Shuifeng is the lucky god Taifeng. Only he has unparalleled good luck and a beautiful tail like a tiger. But at this moment, the hair on the tail seems to have been plucked out and put into a bag. Taifeng gave all his good luck to his beloved, and he also changed from the lucky god Taifeng to the unlucky god Shuifeng.

"Then you have a good rest. I'll take my leave first." Lu Qingjiu stood up and said goodbye to Hou Xuejia.

Hou Xuejia smiled and said, "Okay, you're welcome to come down and play again."

"Yes." Lu Qingjiu said, "I will."

Lu Qingjiu turned and left the ward, closing the door quietly. He saw through the glass that Hou Xuejia seemed to be a little tired from talking too much, and fell into a deep sleep leaning against the headboard.

When Shui Feng saw Lu Qingjiu coming out, he quickly went over and asked, "How is she?"

"I'm a little tired, so I'm going to sleep first." Lu Qingjiu said, "What about you? Are you still waiting here?"

"No, I'll come see her tomorrow after she falls asleep." Shui Feng touched his nose. "Otherwise, I'll be covered in bruises and the nurses will always come to ask if I need help."

Lu Qingjiu: “…” That’s right, Shui Feng looked like he had just been beaten up, and he really looked like a patient who needed to go to the hospital.

"Come on, I'll treat you to dinner!" Shui Feng said, "There's a place near the hospital that sells delicious dumplings!"

Lu Qingjiu said: "You have money?"

Shui Feng laughed loudly: "Of course I am rich, who do you think I am... Damn it!" Before he could finish his words, he missed a step on the stairs and rolled down several floors until he rolled to the wall and barely stopped.

Lu Qingjiu quickly lowered his head to look, only to find that Shui Feng had actually broken a tile under his feet - his luck was indeed incredibly bad.

But Shui Feng was already used to falling flat on his face. He bravely got up from the ground, wiped the blood from under his nose, and said, "It's okay, let's go."

Lu Qingjiu looked at Shui Feng's face and thought, "Brother, you really don't look okay."

But before Lu Qingjiu could express what he was thinking, Shui Feng continued to walk forward happily.

Just walking from the ward to the hospital entrance, Shui Feng fell three times and was drenched in bird droppings once. The most exaggerated thing was that a street lamp actually fell and hit him on the head, which really stunned Lu Qingjiu.

Fortunately, Shuifeng is a god. If an ordinary person encountered such a thing, he would be half-dead if not dead.

"Don't you really want to go to the hospital?" Lu Qingjiu couldn't bear it any longer.

"No." Shui Feng's face was swollen, and there was a bloody gash on his forehead. He took out the hat he had prepared long ago and put it on his head. "They are just minor injuries, nothing serious."

Lu Qingjiu: "..." He sighed and wanted to say something, but looking at the bright smile on Shui Feng's face, he felt that his words were superfluous. "Money can't buy my willingness. Shui Feng is willing to do this, so why should others say more?"

Bai Yuehu saw the two people walking towards him outside the hospital. He frowned and said to Shui Feng, "What are you doing here?"

"I'm here to treat you to a meal," Shui Feng said.

"No need." Bai Yuehu said, "You can go back."

"But..." Shui Feng still wanted to insist.

"I said no, Lu Qingjiu and I will leave right away." Bai Yuehu repeated with a firm attitude, "This is the last time I will help you, don't come to me again."

Shui Feng opened his mouth and wanted to say something.

"Taifeng, think carefully," Bai Yuehu said. "What you're doing isn't just damaging your body, it's also damaging your divine destiny. People worship Taifeng, the auspicious god. You know exactly what will happen if you continue like this."

Shui Feng stopped talking. He just smiled and waved at Bai Yuehu: "See you next time."

Bai Yuehu ignored him and took Lu Qingjiu away.

After the two of them got on the van, Lu Qingjiu asked, “What do you want to eat tonight?”

Bai Yuehu didn't say anything.

Lu Qingjiu said: "Why don't you speak? Are you unhappy?"

Bai Yuehu asked, "Is it worth it for one person?"

Lu Qingjiu thought for a moment: "What do you think?"

Bai Yuehu said, "I don't think it's worth it."

Lu Qingjiu said: "Maybe it's because you haven't met that person?"

Bai Yuehu said, "Then I hope I never encounter that."

Lu Qingjiu said: "Okay, don't be angry anymore, I'll make you something delicious tonight. We won't eat dumplings at the hospital gate."

When Bai Yuehu heard this, he slightly curled the corners of his lips.
