Chapter 12 Drawing the Mountain and River Sword

Inside the empty cave, Xiao Feng paced back and forth beneath the vines, constantly pondering a solution.

He had always thought the vines were only passively defensive, but who knew that no matter where he stood, the vines' tentacles could always target him.

In an instant, Xiao Feng realized that these vines actually possessed a certain degree of intelligence.

Just then, many vines naturally drooped to the ground, slowly moving closer to him.

Although the vines moved very slightly, Xiao Feng's Qingzong Qi Refining Technique covered the entire cave, so he could easily detect even the slightest change.

Xiao Feng sneered and looked down at the surrounding vines: "It seems you've noticed I haven't made a move for a long time and are planning to launch an attack."

Now that he has discovered the vines' little scheme, how could he be easily surrounded by them?

The longsword was drawn and landed in his hand. He cleaved through the vines blocking his way with a fierce strike and landed on an open ground.

The vines realized that Xiao Feng had broken free of their encirclement, so they stopped extending forward and instead returned to the Mountain and River Sword.

No matter how many unnecessary actions Xiao Feng made below, his goal was the Mountain and River Sword.

As long as the vines remain beside the Mountain and River Sword, they will eventually clash.

Xiao Feng looked up at the Mountain and River Sword in the air and took a deep breath: "It seems that the vines want to stay next to the Mountain and River Sword."

No matter how many small movements he used to attract the vines down, the vines acted as if they didn't see him and remained still next to the Mountain and River Sword.

If someone were to come inside now, they would never believe that the vines above are alive.

Although Xiao Feng's strength had recovered to its peak, he had just realized that his strength was no match for the vines.

He found a seat and sat down, pondering for a moment: "This stalemate can't go on. Sooner or later, one side will run out of steam."

In such a place, without water or food, he simply cannot survive for long.

Moreover, everyone in the sect thought he had drowned in the Clear Spring River, so he had to get out of there as soon as possible to let them know that he was alright.

Suddenly, Xiao Feng glanced at the withered tree beside him, and a strange thought flashed through his mind.

"A withered tree, fire overcomes wood, I wonder if vines are afraid of flames?"

Since he had nothing in his hands, he could only follow the route he had taken to enter the space he had just entered.

Here, there are many dead tree trunks on the ground, and some thick branches nearby that can be used to start a fire.

Xiao Feng glanced back at the passage and sneered, "Looks like I can give you a surprise this time."

He piled up all the withered leaves and used the Azure Sect Qi Refining Technique again, striking the leaves hard.

After a period of friction of spiritual energy, a cluster of flames appeared on the withered leaves.

Xiao Feng quickly went to the fire and threw some thin, easily flammable twigs into it.

Only by ensuring the flame doesn't go out can he obtain a torch in such a place.

Otherwise, he wouldn't have been able to get a torch, and naturally wouldn't have been able to use it to disperse the vines next to the Mountain and River Sword.

After an hour of struggling, Xiao Feng took a torch from the fire, stood up, and ran towards the cave where the Mountain and River Sword was located.

Because of the torch's glow, the vines immediately realized that Xiao Feng possessed something that could restrain him.

Suddenly, vines spread out of thin air, baring their claws and baring their teeth at him, preventing him from getting close to the Mountain and River Sword.

Xiao Feng waved his torch several times, only to find that he could only hit the outer vines and had no ability to hit the vines that were wrapping the Mountain and River Sword.

Without sufficient strength as a foundation, even with torches, he wouldn't be able to disperse the vines.

Xiao Feng, worried that he had expended too much energy in the cave, retreated into the secret passage again.

When the vines saw Xiao Feng return to the secret passage, they quietly retracted their branches and left them beside the Mountain and River Sword.

He returned to the fire, casually tossed the torch into it, and said angrily, "How could this possibly work?"

No wonder no one in the sect has been able to obtain the Mountain and River Sword for so long; the troubles within the sect keep coming one after another.

However, having come this far, it would be a pity to give up on obtaining the Mountain and River Sword.

Xiao Feng stealthily followed the secret passage back to the cave entrance. He glanced at the Mountain and River Sword in the air and noticed that the vines seemed to be asleep, remaining motionless.

Within ten breaths, as if he had just thought of something, Xiao Feng suddenly looked at the vines next to the Mountain and River Sword.

"Yeah, how come I didn't think of that? As long as I didn't give the vines time to spread, I could get close to him."

The spread of vines takes time; it doesn't happen in an instant.

Xiao Feng returned to the campfire and took out a torch from it.

To prevent the flickering flames from being seen by the vines, he used strips of cloth to block the light this time.

Soon, he arrived at the entrance of the cave again, glanced up at the Mountain and River Sword, and sneered: "Then I'm sorry."

As soon as he finished speaking, Xiao Feng concentrated all his spiritual power in his feet, stomped hard on the mountain wall, and leaped into the air to the side of the Mountain and River Sword.

The vines sensed Xiao Feng's location, but they were too close to protect the Mountain and River Sword.

He casually tossed the torch onto the vines, while his other hand gripped the hilt of the Mountain and River Sword.

This time, even if the vines knock him down from above, he still has the ability to pull the Mountain and River Sword out from between the vines.

Because the vines surrounding the Mountain and River Sword were extremely powerful, Xiao Feng tried several times but there was no reaction.

He glanced instinctively at the direction of the vines and noticed that the flames were gradually moving upwards along the roots of the vines.

It's likely that the vines will be completely burned down in no time.

As expected, the vines could not withstand the heat of the flames and released the Mountain and River Sword.

Xiao Feng noticed that the Mountain and River Sword was no longer resisting him, so he pulled it out with great force and waved it around in his hand a few times.

He originally thought that once he drew the blade, the Mountain and River Sword should become his weapon.

No one expected that the Mountain and River Sword would unleash extremely powerful sword energy, forcefully knocking Xiao Feng back several steps.

The Mountain and River Sword, now out of control, danced wildly around the top of the cave like a runaway horse.

This time, even if the vines tried to bind him, the Mountain and River Sword was capable of cutting them in two.

Xiao Feng landed on the ground, staring blankly at the Mountain and River Sword in the air: "This... does the Mountain and River Sword already have a sword spirit? It can actually move on its own?"

In his opinion, only a few swords possess such an ability.

He was astonished to find that the Mountain and River Sword was within the range of those swords.
