Chapter 353: Taking the Host Back to Beijing
Jingzhen felt the little person beside him pause for a moment. When he turned around, he found Baoya staring at the two little rabbits that had been frozen solid in the cage.
He sighed, reached out his arms, and hugged the little girl into his thin coat, then reached out and pinched the little tuft of hair on her head.
Baoya stopped looking and followed him out the door.
Wang Cailian walked in front holding Yunyue in her arms. Jingzhen thought for a moment and reached out to pick up Baoya as well.
When the group came out of the alley, the ox cart was parked not far from the entrance of the alley.
Yun Dalang used his sleeve to wipe out a clean area and sat down on it.
Yun Sanlang wiped the car floor with his sleeves. After Wang Cailian and Jingzhen got on the car with Yunyue and Baoya in their arms, he got in.
Yun Dalang flicked the whip in his hand, and the old ox pulled the cart out of the town.
At Grandma Yu's house, Yunhua was dragged by Qianqiong to eat some hot porridge and boiled eggs, and then she quietly wrapped herself in the quilt and knelt on the mat in front of the coffin.
Qian Qiong felt heartbroken when she saw her disheartened look. She stood at the door for a while, took out a purse embroidered with flowers from her bosom, and walked over.
"Everyone gets old one day, and when they get old they get sick, and when they get sick they die..."
She picked up a cushion, knelt down beside Yunhua, and said in a hoarse voice, "It's only a matter of time. Madam Yu has actually been suffering from tuberculosis for many years."
"We came out this time to look around and also to find a doctor to see if there was any way to cure her."
"But we couldn't find her. Her illness had been delayed for too long and had taken root in her body. Even Pavilion Master Rong's medicine could only delay the disease."
"I've noticed she's been a lot happier since she met you guys. I think she'll be feeling better and will be able to get through this winter..."
Yunhua sniffed and looked at her with red eyes.
"Oh... let's not talk about this anymore." Qian Qiong sighed, took out the purse and stuffed it into Yunhua's hand.
"Madam Yu gave it to me a few days ago and asked me to give it to you. She must have made some preparations because she knew her time was running out."
Yunhua stroked her purse and asked Qianqiong, "Aunt Qiong, what about mother-in-law's coffin?"
She wanted to ask if it could be shipped back home, but after a moment's hesitation, she didn't ask.
Qian Qiong pinched the paper money and threw it into the fire, shaking her head: "It should be sent back to the capital..."
"The capital?" Yunhua was stunned.
She looked up at Qianqiong. The flickering flames reflected Qianqiong's profile, making her look haggard and lonely.
After a moment, she thought of something, clenched the purse in her hand, and her eyes darkened.
…
On the other side, Yun Dalang and his companions drove the ox cart back home, it was already very late.
Zhao Zhilan, He Chunxiu, Li Rongyue and Yun Erlang were all worried, and they all wrapped themselves in thick coats and wandered around the yard late at night.
When I heard the sound of wheels outside, my heart finally settled down and I hurried to the gate.
Jingzhen got out of the car holding Baoya, but did not go in. He said hello to Wang Cailian and others at the door and went back to Huya Mountain.
Baoya and Yunyue walked into the yard hand in hand. Yun Dalang went to tie up the cow and park the car, while Wang Cailian and Yun Sanlang followed behind carrying things.
"Are you back? Why are you so late today?" Zhao Zhilan was the first to step forward and hugged Baoya and Yunyue on the left and right.
The two little girls buried their heads in her arms, looking listless, and no one spoke.
Zhao Zhilan sensed something was wrong and wanted to ask, but Wang Cailian stopped her with a look.
The family came into the house one after another. Baoya and Yunyue were sad and tired. They said hello to Zhao Zhilan and the others and went back to their rooms.
The room was dark. Baoya pushed the door open and went in. Without turning on the light, she threw herself on her small bed with the quilt in her arms.
She was a little confused. Didn't she let her mother-in-law eat Danghu's meat? Why did her mother-in-law leave?
She had used the meat of those exotic beasts to cure many people before, and everyone got better. Why couldn't her mother-in-law get better?
She tossed and turned in bed holding her little quilt, her mind full of the happy days when the three sisters and her mother-in-law lived together.
As she was thinking, she vaguely heard Chengxi's giggling downstairs, and then she remembered what she should have been worried about today.
Her parents and younger brother were all there. It seemed that her grandfather, whom she disliked, was unable to take her mother away.
Then she remembered the Zhu Nu she had dreamed of last night and took a deep breath.
She was originally worried that her mother would be taken away by her grandfather, but unexpectedly, it was Grandma Yu who left...
In the small hall downstairs, Wang Cailian, Yun Dalang and Yun Sanlang had already told Zhao Zhilan and the others about Grandma Yu's death.
The incident happened suddenly and everyone felt bad.
Li Rongyue knew that Yunhua stayed to accompany Qianqiong and keep vigil for Grandma Yu, so she only asked Wang Cailian to help convey a message, asking her to send Grandma off well, but not to be so sad that she would hurt herself.
Grandma Yu's body was kept for seven days, and Yunhua stayed with Qianqiong every day and never left.
Baoya, Jingzhen and Yunyue went to keep vigil during the day and returned home at night, and this also lasted for seven days without a day off.
The academy also explained the situation to Qi Mo, who naturally understood and even came to pay his respects.
It was not until the morning of the seventh day that Ping'an Town suddenly became noisy again.
The reason was that a group of people suddenly came to this small town. They were all women, wearing light blue skirts and white gauze clothes on the outside. Each of them covered their face with a light gauze and had a white flower pinned on their hair.
The two women in the lead carried baskets on their arms and scattered white paper money as they walked.
At the end of the team, eight bearers carried a soft sedan decorated with white silk and plain white gauze. The thin gauze curtains fluttered in the wind, and the figure of a slim woman sitting inside could be vaguely seen.
The three Baoya sisters, Jingzhen and Qianqiong were kneeling in front of Grandma Yu's spirit, burning paper money and trimming the wicks of the eternal lamps, when they heard the sound of uniform footsteps outside, gently and steadily approaching.
Baoya paused for a moment while holding the white paper money. When she turned around, she saw a woman in blue with a veil covering her face slowly walking into the yard.
Qianqiong stopped what she was doing, brushed off the wrinkles on her clothes, and stood up.
Baoya also stood up from the mat and looked up and down at the woman standing at the door of the mourning hall.
Although the blue dress was covered with a layer of white gauze, the gauze was transparent and the style and pattern inside could be vaguely seen.
She stared closely at the embroidery on the hem of the woman's dress and felt it was familiar, as if she had seen it before when she returned from Rong's house in the capital.
The woman moved her wrist and took off the veil covering her face, revealing a delicate and elegant face.
Baoya's eyes flashed, and she remembered that the person wearing this dress belonged to someone visiting Xian Embroidery Tower!
The woman lifted her skirt and saluted Qian Qiong, then said, "I'm visiting the Immortal Embroidery Tower - Mu Jin, to take the owner back to the capital!"
