Chapter 47: Are we coming to your house this time?
After replacing the new large millstone, making tofu for Erlang and Sanlang's families became much easier than before.
In the past, I had to grind it two or three times with a small grinding wheel to get it done. Now I have switched to a large grinding wheel and it only takes one time, which saves a lot of effort.
When the tofu was ready and the tofu pudding and soy milk were served on the table, Baoya was called up from the kang by He Chunxiu.
We stayed up too late practicing calligraphy with our eldest brother yesterday, so except for Yun Chengfu, none of the other four children got up today.
"Mom, why did you call me so late?" Baoya asked sleepily, rubbing her eyes and sitting around the table with her two brothers and sisters.
He Chunxiu patted her little head and said, "You studied so hard yesterday. Mom just wants you to sleep a little longer."
"Haha, practicing calligraphy is not tiring at all. I can write several more today." Xiao Baoya stuck out her tongue.
She had wanted to get up early today to make tofu with her grandmother, but she overslept and her mother didn't even call her.
But, actually, there is no need for that. With her around, the tofu at home will always taste great, and it will be extraordinarily delicious!
Hearing Bao Ya say this, Yun Chengfu glanced at Yun Chenglu who was sitting next to him.
Yun Chenglu felt guilty when he looked at him and buried his head in drinking soy milk.
His elder brother looked at the calligraphy he wrote yesterday and said that even dogs could crawl better than him. No, even dogs could write better than him.
But he really tried his best, but the pen and slingshot are different.
He is good at using a slingshot, but it is a different story when he holds a pen.
While the children were eating, little Douzi from Kelaixiang arrived on time again.
As usual, Zhao Zhilan asked her three sons to take the ten empty barrels off the cart and then move the ten large barrels filled with tofu onto the cart.
"Aunt Zhao," Xiaodouzi said, smiling as she took out her purse and handed them the money. "Here's one and a half taels of silver. It's for today's tofu. Take it."
"Okay," Zhao Zhilan took the money and put it away. "How's the tofu? Does it taste okay?"
"That's great! Now our signature dish at Ke Lai Xiang has become Eight Treasures Tofu!"
Xiao Douzi said as he took out a paper bag from the car and handed it to Zhao Zhilan: "It's a snack for the kids."
Zhao Zhilan: ...
"Boss Zhu, is he cooking again?"
"That's right. He also asked me to ask how the lotus root boxes tasted yesterday." Xiaodouzi said.
Zhao Zhilan called a few children over and answered Xiaodouzi's questions.
Yunhua, Yunyue and Yun Chenglu all said in unison that it was delicious.
Yun Chengfu smiled slightly: "It looks good and tastes good. It has a perfect color, aroma and taste."
It sounds like he is a scholar.
Xiao Douzi was very satisfied and turned to ask Baoya, "What do you think, little Baoya?"
Their boss mainly wanted to hear the little girl's opinion.
Baoya recalled the taste of the lotus root box from last night: "Hmm, delicious!"
"Gone?" Xiaodouzi was stunned.
"No more." Baoya replied seriously.
Well, he’s just a middleman anyway, Xiaodouzi thought.
"What are we having for dinner today?" Baoya asked Xiaodouzi, looking at the paper bag Zhao Zhilan handed to her.
"It's sweet osmanthus candied lotus root," said Xiaodouzi. "Try it. I'll come get the tofu tomorrow and ask you how it tastes."
"Okay!" Baoya, Yunhua and Yunyue agreed in unison.
Yun Chenglu, who was standing next to him, looked at the big bag in Baoya's arms, and then looked at the smiling Xiaodouzi standing in front of him.
He scratched his head and said, "Why do I feel like we're tasting food for Boss Zhu?"
"Ah? Hahaha..." Xiaodouzi was stunned by what he said, and then laughed.
That’s right. Now their boss is keen on making some easy-to-carry food every day and asks him to bring it over. After Baoya and the others finish eating, he can take Baoya and their comments back.
It’s just for food tasting.
Not long after seeing Xiaodouzi off, a gorgeously decorated carriage slowly drove into Feishui Village.
Horse-drawn carriages are rare in the countryside, especially those with tassels on the four corners and embroidered patterns on the curtains. Many villagers came out to watch the fun with their hands folded.
Just as Zhao Zhilan was about to lead the children into the house, the carriage drove towards them, getting closer and closer.
At the back door of Chen's house, Zhou Cuihua was also standing at the door watching the fun. When she saw the car, her eyes lit up.
She kept asking Chen Xiaojuan, who was standing next to her, "Is that so? Come and see if it is!"
How would Chen Xiaojuan know? She had met that family before and accepted their things, but she had never seen that family’s carriage.
She pursed her lips and said nothing.
If I say something wrong and embarrass Zhou Cuihua, I will probably be scolded again.
"Cuihua, that car must be going to the Yun family, why are you so excited?" The loudmouth Wang Yuqin who was watching the fun nearby spoke up.
Zhou Cuihua glared at her and said, "What do you know? The Yun family is allowed to send a carriage, but our family is not allowed to send one too?!"
"Then I think that car is heading to the Yun family," Wang Yuqin leaned against the front gate of the Chen family's yard, "Why don't you take a look for yourself?"
Zhou Cuihua frowned and looked up, only to see that the carriage had stopped at the back door of the Yun family.
The driver was a tall and thin young man in black. He jumped out of the carriage, opened the curtain, and carried a little boy of eight or nine years old out of the carriage.
The boy was wearing a tea-white robe embroidered with silver thread. As soon as his feet touched the ground, he ran towards Baoya and Zhao Zhilan who were standing at the door.
"Sister Baoya, I'm here to see you!"
Bao Ya looked carefully and saw that it was not Rong He, the young master of Yaoxian Hall, who else could it be?
"Brother Rong!" Baoya was also very happy, "Why are you here?"
"I came to buy your tofu," Rong He said, "Your tofu is really delicious. I can't eat a meal without it now!"
"Hahaha," Baoya giggled, covering her mouth. "It's so delicious!"
Rong He nodded seriously and saw Zhao Zhilan and the other four children of the Yun family standing behind Baoya.
He coughed lightly, suppressed his smile, and acted like a grown-up: "Hello, Grandma Zhao, hello, brothers and sisters."
Except for the eldest brother Yun Chengfu, everyone else here has seen Rong He, and they all responded to him with a smile.
However, Yun Chenglu still had a stern face and was not very happy.
Zhao Zhilan liked this well-behaved child very much and said with a smile, "Young Master Rong, are you here to play with our Baoya? If you want to eat tofu, I'll bring you some back. No need to buy it."
"That won't do. We need to buy a lot of food to take back." Rong He said seriously, "Besides, I came here with Grandpa Sun this time. In addition to buying tofu, I also need to take Baoya's mother to see a doctor for her leg disease."
Zhao Zhilan was stunned. She looked down and saw Xiao Baoya with a smiling face looking up at her. She immediately understood.
This little girl must have mentioned He Chunxiu's leg when she was playing with Rong He. Unexpectedly, Young Master Rong actually remembered it and brought a doctor with him.
As they were talking, Sun Pu got off the carriage with the help of Yan Fei.
Baoya saw the energetic old man and asked Rong He, "Is this the grandpa?"
Rong He nodded: "Yes! He is very powerful and can cure any disease!"
The Yun family was bustling with activity, but at the front door of the Chen family, Zhou Cuihua was leaning against the wall of her own courtyard with a pout on her face. She looked disdainful, but felt very jealous in her heart.
Then Wang Yuqin called out from the side, "Cuihuaer, Cuihuaer! Look, there's another carriage coming! Is it coming to your house this time?!"
