Chapter 552 Luring Them Away

He Jinran wanted to ask, but dared not speak.

As Qiu Yan pondered, she listened intently to the sounds outside.

Then, she peered out of the tent window and looked around.

Only on the prison cart, Nineteen was staring intently at them.

The rest of the place was empty.

Strange, where have all those barbarian soldiers gone instead of resting and recuperating?

This was completely different from what she had imagined—tens of thousands.

She silently counted in her mind: three, two, one.

He suddenly stood up.

Take another look outside the tent.

Yes, but there are no ten thousand soldiers; there are probably only thirty or fifty.

She steadied herself and whispered a sentence.

"Xiao Ran, be careful, let's go!"

"Hmm? You can leave?"

Before He Jinran could react, he heard a voice from outside the curtain.

Who are you talking to?

Hearing the noise, the two guards lifted the curtain and entered the tent.

But in the instant the curtain was lifted,

Two whistling sounds of arrows raining down.

Qiu Yan's arrow pierced their necks.

The two barely uttered a sound before their bodies fell to the ground, lifeless.

At the same moment, He Jinran crawled out from under the bed once again.

"Mother, you should have said so earlier. You didn't need to do this kind of killing. I could have done it myself."

Qiu Yan: "Don't you understand what timing means?" Just now, the patrolmen outside all went around to the back.

Furthermore, she took advantage of the moment when no one was looking.

Even a moment's delay would require another arrow.

And so, Qiu Yan and He Jinran carefully walked out of the tent.

"Who goes there?!" A barbarian soldier came to investigate.

Unfortunately, before he could even arrive, he was pierced through the throat by Qiu Yan's arrow.

"Why did Mother beat me to it again?" As He Jinran spoke, he had already walked towards the prison cart and opened the prison cart door for the second time.

"Nineteen, how are you?"

"I am unharmed."

The nineteen prisoners stepped out of the van, and after the brief respite, they were much better.

Qiu Yan followed closely behind.

"Mother, run!" He Jinran grabbed Qiu Yan and prepared to flee.

However, Qiu Yan didn't want to leave at that moment.

"Stay hidden and assess the situation first."

Suddenly, I heard hurried footsteps beside me.

This time, she hasn't made a move yet.

He Jinran and Shijiu had already stepped forward and were fighting.

The fighting was extremely fierce. Qiu Yan was afraid of attracting too many barbarian soldiers and wanted to end the battle quickly.

But the two seemed to be struggling to keep up.

Qiu Yan swiftly fired another hidden arrow.

He Jinran thought to himself, "My mother is really something. She secretly made her move without holding back."

in unison,

"elder sister."

"elder sister!"

Qiu Yan turned around,

"Ah Xu, Ling'er? Go help quickly."

It has to be said, they came at just the right time, saving her a lot of effort.

She had no time to react before getting her younger siblings involved.

And she herself, of course, wasn't idle either.

Her hidden arrows killed several barbarian soldiers.

He Jinran was naturally pleased to learn that help had arrived at this moment.

Once all those in the open have been killed,

The five people met.

Under Qiu Yan's instructions, they crouched low and jogged while remaining hidden.

They began walking along the route that Huyan Xun had just taken.

Along the way, they avoided danger whenever possible, and if they couldn't avoid it, they would fight head-on.

Finally out of the camp,

"Blackie, come here," He Jinran whispered.

Suddenly,

The large black dog suddenly charged towards He Jinran.

Qiu Yan's eyes widened.

Qiu Ling'er: "Why did you bring the dog along?"

Xiao Ran is such an awful name.

In comparison, lightning is still the best sound.

Unfortunately, Lightning was old and frail, and was tragically murdered.

“It came by itself.” He Jinran winked at the black dog and tossed him a smelly sock.

The black dog barked a few times and ran off into the distance.

"Mother, you all follow."

Led by the black dog, the five people followed its footsteps while avoiding those around them.

During the jog, Nineteen watched the black dog's running pace with envy, and muttered something under his breath.

Even it has a name.

"...?" He Jinran turned his eyes and looked at Nineteen with a smile. Really, he was getting more and more adorable.

"Don't you have a name too, Nineteen?"

"That's not a name," Nineteen corrected.

Whenever he heard His Highness call him Nineteen, this title, which had once made him proud because of his ranking,

He always felt like he had returned to the Shadow Division.

Before coming out, I didn't think anything of it.

But once he truly experienced the life of a normal person, he developed a fear of that place.

"If you don't want to be called Nineteen, what would you like to be called?"

Nineteen: He didn't know that, as far back as he could remember, he didn't know his own name, where he lived, or who his parents were.

He Jinran slightly curled his lips and ran towards Qiu Yan, ignoring the inexplicable Shadow Guard Nineteen.

"Mother, take a rest."

"I can't rest." Qiu Yan shook her head. "I'm fine."

She exercises regularly and there is nothing wrong with her body.

He Jinran wanted to tell Qiu Yan to wait there.

However, this place is dangerous, so of course it won't work.

Not long after,

The black dog stopped in an open field.

Looking ahead, Qiu Yan saw a mountainous area.

This is the route He Lin had to take when he came here.

Beside the mountains, countless barbarian soldiers were crawling through the hills, preparing to hide on the spot.

They are currently withdrawing their troops...

"They're probably just waiting for Father to arrive so they can wipe them all out in one fell swoop," He Jinran said through gritted teeth.

Sure enough, the next moment, Huyan Xun let out a loud laugh.

"Everyone, perk up! Make sure you reach the summit before He Lin! Hahaha, when he arrives, I'll definitely give him a big gift!"

Huyan Xun's voice was the loudest, and he was issuing orders one by one, "You team, east side...you west side...you front side...you team, prepare to capture He Lin alive!"

"Damn it! Mother, what are they after? If they wanted to destroy Dongjin, why didn't they do it then? Why go through all this trouble?" He Jinran racked her brains but still couldn't understand.

Qiu Yan looked at it, feeling uneasy.

It turned out that what Huyan Xun said back then was a lie.

Before nightfall, the battle was about to begin.

Just as she was about to speak to clarify, Qiu Xu said:

“Xiao Ran, the northern barbarians are afraid of gunpowder. They weren’t entirely confident back then. I suppose they want to test the waters now.”

"Not bad, Uncle, you're so clever." He Jinran could only sigh. Hu Yanxun was too cunning. As soon as he sensed something was wrong, he found an excuse and took his mother away.

"But if that's the case, then aren't the northern barbarians afraid of gunpowder now?" Qiu Ling'er asked, puzzled.

"This..." Qiu Xu lowered his eyes silently and shut his mouth.

He didn't know either.

Upon hearing this, Qiu Yan sighed and shook her head.

"It's probably not as simple as it seems to you."

"What do you mean?" Qiu Xu asked, somewhat puzzled.

Qiu Yan looked ahead at the empty space: "Look carefully."

He Jinran looked at it and said, "It's nothing?"

Suddenly, he saw something.

"The soil on the ground has been turned over anew. Oh no, it's a trap!"

"Yes, it's the burial ground they prepared for our Dongjin soldiers long ago." Qiu Yan nodded in agreement.

How did she figure it out?

Some of the weeds on this ground are growing well, but others have their roots still outside and have become withered grass.

Moreover, there are quite a few of these withered grasses.

Furthermore, upon closer inspection, the soil appears somewhat different.

"Mother, let's go!" All He Jinran could think about was escaping this place. "We must inform Father Emperor immediately!"

However, it was too late.

Qiu Yan lay prone, listening to the sound.

"His Majesty and the others have arrived!"

"What, so fast?" He Jinran exclaimed in surprise.

"Then what should we do?"

Qiu Yan: "Draw them away!" Right now, this is the only way.
