After the craftsmen had eaten and drunk their fill, they rested for about half an hour before starting work.
Qiu Yan instructed Wang to cook more soup for the craftsmen every day to help them cool off in the summer heat.
After finishing his meal, Qiu Dayu went to sleep, while Qiu Yan and Gu Qian and his son went ahead to the wasteland.
A short while later, Zhao Shan summoned two clan elders and Qiu Dafu.
Qiu Dafu nodded: "Thank you both for your hard work today, uncles."
One of them stroked his beard and said, "We're all from the same village, so what's this talk about hardship?"
The other man looked at Qiu Dafu with a smile and said, "Dafu, your niece is really something. She's really bringing honor to our village."
The village chief chimed in, "That's right. She survived in adversity. If it weren't for Yang, she wouldn't be where she is today. Don't we still need to measure the land? Let's hurry over there."
Qiu Dafu agreed with them; his niece was now obsessed with making money.
In the bushes ahead, Gu Qian and Gu Xiaoran were sitting under a thick tree, enjoying the cool shade. It was too hot in the village, but the forest was much cooler.
He was taking a nap with his eyes half-closed, while Gu Xiaoran, lying in his arms, was already fast asleep.
Beside Gu Qian lay a bow and arrow.
Qiu Yan was standing in the wasteland, glancing at Gu Qian and his son every now and then, and looking into the distance from time to time.
Looking at this wasteland, she could almost see rows of neat medicinal herb fields.
She quite liked the environment near the mountains; the stream meandered into the mountains and flowed slowly towards the lower end.
There are also springs in the mountains and forests, so the water source is quite abundant.
Soon after, the village chief, her second uncle, and two clan elders arrived. Qiu Yan greeted them one by one and began measuring the land.
Thirty acres of wasteland had been secured. During the land measurement process, Qiu Yan asked the village chief to help her find some reliable villagers to help her reclaim the wasteland.
With so much land, the previous two families of Sun and Yuan were simply not enough.
Qiu Dafu: "My second uncle can also help out in his spare time."
Qiu Yan smiled and said, "Second Uncle, don't overwork yourself. Your health is the most important thing."
After hearing this, the village chief thought that he was idle anyway, so he wiped the sweat from his brow and said, "Count me in. Don't worry about the other workers, I'll find them for you in one day tomorrow."
Qiu Yan was naturally pleased to hear that the village chief was also going to do it. After all, Zhao Shan was the village chief, and his prestige was undeniable.
"I am extremely grateful for my uncle's help."
The village chief waved his hand, "Qiu Yan is always so polite." He was just trying to earn a little money.
The villagers are all hardworking, but they live in poverty because they don't know how to be flexible.
The village chief has grown to appreciate Qiu Yan more and more. His son, Zhao Jun, is of marriageable age, and he wants Qiu Yan to be his daughter-in-law.
However, because of the matter between Qiu Yan and Zhao Zheng, and because he knew that Gu Qian had feelings for Qiu Yan, he couldn't say much.
Gu Qian and his son, who were hiding in the bushes in the distance, had already moved to a secluded spot deep in the mountains.
Gu Qian carried a bow and arrows, took Gu Xiaoran to see her mother, and then took the child hunting.
During his hunting trip, he encountered Li Zheng, who was also hunting.
"Master, what a coincidence!"
...Qiu Dayu couldn't help with building the house either. He wanted to follow his second brother, but his second brother didn't like him, so he helped Wang Shi and Zhao Yuanyuan cook.
Wang still didn't give Qiu Dayu a friendly look, and Qiu Dayu didn't bother to embarrass her. He wanted to talk to Zhao Yuanyuan, but her mother was there, so he didn't dare. He then took two wooden basins to the upstream stream to wash the pork and vegetables.
Once it's clean, rinse it again with well water when you get home, and then you can cook directly from there.
Suddenly, he saw Qiu Dayong and Qiu Dazhi slowly entering the old courtyard from near to far.
Qiu Dayu didn't know what the two people were doing there, but he guessed it couldn't be anything good.
Inside the old courtyard, Qiu Dayong looked at Wang and her daughter and asked them:
"Call Qiu Dayu out and tell him that his third and fourth brothers have come to see him."
Wang shook her head: "How would we know where he went?"
Qiu Dayu looked at Qiu Dayong and Qiu Dazhi in the old courtyard from afar, thinking that they would leave if they couldn't find Qiu Yan and the others, so he didn't take it seriously at first.
"This is the courtyard left by my grandfather, why should Qiu Yan live here!" Qiu Dazhi was domineering and determined to demand an explanation.
"How can a granddaughter be so heartless? Even though my mother isn't her biological grandmother, she shouldn't treat her like this!"
In order to be exempted from tuition fees, Qiu Dazhi studied diligently every day and did not return home for several days. Unexpectedly, when he returned, he heard that his own mother had been sent to prison by Qiu Yan.
He was a filial son, and he was furious when he heard that his mother had been imprisoned.
His mother has a bad back, and now that she's been forced into prison, she can't possibly endure it.
Without his mother, and with his third brother listening to his sister-in-law and refusing to give him any money, he had no choice but to worry about tuition fees and even food and drink in the future.
In fact, Qiu Dayong and his wife didn't have any money either.
Madam Wang frowned. "Qiu Dazhi, you have no right to talk to me about this. Qiu Yan and the others aren't here. If there's nothing else, go back first."
Qiu Dayong nudged Qiu Dazhi's sleeve. They weren't there to cause trouble; he saw that Qiu Yan and the others were doing better and better.
Now that he knows Qiu Yan plans to hire people to grow medicinal herbs, he wants to come and have his wife help out.
He wanted Qiu Dayu to put in a good word for him, and they agreed when he came, but as soon as his fourth brother arrived, he became very difficult and unreasonable.
Although Qiu Dayu couldn't hear the sounds coming from inside the courtyard, he sensed a dispute and shouted loudly to Qiu Dayong and Qiu Dazhi:
"Third Brother, Fourth Brother, what are you doing here?"
Qiu Dazhi and Qiu Dayong turned around at the same time.
Qiu Dazhi spotted Qiu Dayu by the stream and his anger intensified. He quickly ran up to him, yelling, "Qiu Dayu, you ingrate!"
With that, he picked up the wooden basin containing the vegetables and poured them all into the stream with a splash. "I'll make sure you eat and drink well!"
"Qiu Dazhi, you've gone too far!" Qiu Dayu shouted angrily.
"I'm telling you to eat!" Qiu Dazhi said, reaching out to snatch the pork from Qiu Dayu's hand.
Qiu Dayong stared intently at the pork; it was meat, after all, and his family hadn't eaten pork in a long time.
Qiu Dayu took a step back, protecting the pork. Qiu Dazhi looked like he was possessed by a demon. "You're insane!"
"Go buy your own meat if you want to eat it, don't steal our meat!" As soon as Qiu Dayu finished speaking, Qiu Dazhi threw a punch at him, giving him a black eye.
Qiu Dayu was completely stunned by the beating. Although his fourth brother usually looked down on him, he had never laid a hand on him before.
While Qiu Dazhi was making his move, Qiu Dayong stepped forward to snatch the pork.
Qiu Dayu suddenly stepped back to protect the flesh.
Qiu Dazhi attacked Qiu Dayu again.
“You know perfectly well that Qiu Yan harmed our mother, yet you still get so close to her. Qiu Dayu, how can you do this to our mother?”
Today I must get justice for our mother!
Qiu Dayong kept a close eye on the pork in Qiu Dayu's hand, playing the role of a do-gooder.
"Fourth brother, we're all family, please stop fighting. Fifth brother, you really are something else. Dazhi is your fourth brother, it's no big deal to say a few words to you."
