"It's so quiet." Qin Susu leaned her head against Qiu Yan, gazing quietly into the distance. "Is it worth it just for the saltpeter?"
As she spoke, she chewed on the grapes in her mouth.
Qiu Yan rested her head on her elbow, looked up at the starry sky, and exclaimed, "Worth it!"
With saltpeter, they could produce large quantities of gunpowder.
Putting aside the present, she felt it was all worth it for the sake of long-term stability and security in the future.
Although this is not the only place containing nitrates, Qiu Yan knew about this place when she was in the present world.
This is, of course, because she had been on a mission here before, but it's unclear whether it's the same place.
This place is rich in minerals; if you're lucky, you might make a fortune.
Seeing Qin Susu smacking her lips, she immediately put away her bag and said, "Stop eating."
They wanted to keep the grapes to quench their thirst.
The moon was bright, the stars were few, and it gradually sank.
The sun rises in the east, and another night passes.
They woke up several times throughout the night because of the cold.
Early in the morning, Qiu Yan specially found some grass with dew on it for the horses and fed each horse a bunch of grapes.
At first, the horse refused to eat, but after Qin Susu forced one into its mouth, it ate every single one.
The two ate a simple meal of dry rations and continued on their journey.
As they walked,
The wind blowing across my neck was overwhelming.
After a full day and a half, Qin Susu was starting to feel the strain.
"How much longer until we can cross this endless desert?"
Let's not even talk about her; if this continues, the horse won't be able to take it either.
"Isn't that the end of the road? There are people here." Qiu Yan pointed to the road ahead.
Qin Susu followed Qiu Yan's gaze and looked over; the once barren desert was now turning increasingly yellow.
Two soldiers are guarding the area ahead.
"Isn't it still a desert?" she said, somewhat frustrated.
Qiu Yan immediately noticed that there was a dividing line ahead.
Because both sides of the road were blocked off, leaving only a space the size of a horse-drawn carriage to pass through.
And on the other side of the dividing line, there is no end in sight...
desert!
Because of their fast horses, the journey that originally took two days was shortened by half a day.
Qin Susu stared at the two soldiers for a long time, and finally came to a conclusion.
"Their uniforms are different from those of our soldiers."
Qiu Yan weighed their bundles.
The dry rations and water sac should be enough, and there are still more than half of the grapes left. The horse should be able to make it through.
Qiu Yan stepped forward and asked one of the soldiers,
"Excuse me, is the Kingdom of Shilushi ahead after we cross this border?"
The soldier looked at Qiu Yan with a puzzled expression, finding their strange attire quite odd.
He opened his mouth:
“&*&%¥#@…”
Qiu Yan: "..."
Qin Susu: "Xiaoyan, what are they saying? I can't understand a word they're saying."
Qiu Yan couldn't understand a word either.
Qiu Yan thought for a moment: "Excuse me, what's this place? Is it Lu Shiguo or not?"
The soldier: "@#¥%……%*&%¥#……"
Qiu Yan's lips twitched slightly; it seemed that communication was completely impossible this time.
Qin Susu looked at Qiu Yan with a blank expression. What was she talking about?
The two soldiers also looked at them with curiosity.
Finally, having exhausted all other options, Qiu Yan pointed to themselves, then to the area in front of them, gesturing wildly.
The gist of it is that they need to cross the border.
The two soldiers seemed to understand what she meant, but without thinking, they shook their heads at the two of them.
"@#¥%..."
Qiu Yan looked around and saw that all the other places were sealed off except for this one.
