Chapter 13: Find the criminal within three days

A chaotic night passed, and by the time the county doctor was called in the next day, Qian Dazhi's life was already beyond saving.

The housekeeper's face immediately turned pale, as if he had lost his parents.

It's over.

These two words kept flashing in his mind.

The only remedy now is to quickly catch the person who did it! Otherwise, once the master wakes up, his rage will be poured out on himself, the butler!

What kind of person was the master? How vicious were his methods? Didn't he, the butler, know it? In the past, when he saw the master using those methods on others, he was indifferent and even felt happy. But when he thought about those methods being used on himself, he shuddered and shivered.

"Hurry, hurry to the county and report it to the police! Ask the county magistrate to send someone to investigate this matter and catch the criminals!"

The servant went without stopping.

In the county government office, the county magistrate Cai Kuozheng and his wife, Qian Dazhi's sister Qian, were having breakfast in the hall.

A guard rushed in and said, "Sir, something bad has happened!"

Cai Kuo glanced at him and said, "What happened? You're so anxious and flustered. How disgraceful."

The yamen official glanced at Qian, then came forward and whispered something in Cai Kuo's ear. Cai Kuo's face changed in shock, "What?!"

Qian asked, "Master, what happened?"

Cai Kuo knew how much his wife cherished her younger brother. If she knew his life force had been destroyed, she would have fainted on the spot. So he didn't say anything, "It's okay, it's just that a group of unruly people started making trouble again. I'm full, please enjoy your meal, madam."

He put down his chopsticks and hurried to the front.

After asking the servant who came to report the crime for details, Cai Kuo angrily slammed the table and said, "This is outrageous! How dare they commit a crime at night!"

Cai Kuo was well aware of what Qian Dazhi had done, but since he himself was not clean, he naturally had no reason to criticize his brother-in-law. He might even deliberately let him do what he wanted. After all, he was the county magistrate, the head of a county. If the common people were dissatisfied, they could just hold it in!

But he never expected that someone would actually dare to attack Qian Dazhi, and succeed, actually destroying his life! If that villain had wanted Qian Dazhi's life, he would have gone to see the King of Hell by now!

Thinking more deeply, what if the villain also disliked him as the county magistrate? He sneaked into the county government office at night and stabbed him... This was what Cai Kuo feared and angered the most.

"Go, call Guan Yue over to me."

The personnel structure of the county government was basically like this: the top leader was the county magistrate, who was in charge of the affairs of the county; the second-in-command was the county lieutenant, who was in charge of the lieutenant's office, which was equivalent to the modern public security bureau and was in charge of arrest affairs.

Guan Yue was affiliated with this organization and was considered the county lieutenant's number one subordinate, with authority equivalent to that of the captain of the criminal investigation team of the Public Security Bureau.

Originally, Cai Kuo should have passed the order through the county lieutenant, but now he was overwhelmed by anger and could not wait to pass the order down one level at a time. He directly called Guan Yue over and asked him to go to Qianjiazhuang with the servant to investigate the murder case thoroughly and catch the culprit!

And he was given a time limit of three days.

"The criminals must be apprehended within three days!"

Guan Yue took the order and left.

Guan Yue brought two men to Qianjiazhuang and asked the housekeeper to gather all the servants and interrogate them one by one.

In the end, nothing came out.

None of the servants in the Qian family compound had ever seen the villain, not even a trace of him. Even the concubines who slept in the same bed with Qian Dazhi were clueless.

It seems that the villain is really skilled, as he was able to escape unscathed after severely injuring Qian Dazhi.

Or maybe, it was because the villain was from the Qian Mansion and was very familiar with the terrain here, and after committing the crime, he blended into the crowd?

Guan Yue glanced at the group of servants in the yard, examining them.

Without getting any clues, Guan Yue obviously could not report back. So he called Qian Dazhi's personal servant over and questioned him alone, asking him what Qian Dazhi had done recently and whether he had robbed another girl.

The servant naturally would not hide anything and told Qian Dazhi everything he had done recently.

"...And then there's the Xue family. Xue Lang went hunting in the mountains and fell to his death, leaving behind a beautiful widow. Our master had long been attracted to her, so he sent us to the Xue family in a sedan chair, hoping to marry her. But then the eldest daughter came back and set her dogs on the men, causing our master to fall down in public and make a fool of himself.

"The master came back and said he would find someone to kill the black dog and stew its meat. Then we'll see if the Xue family can stop him! Who knew that at night..."

The servant's face was filled with sorrow. Suddenly, a possibility occurred to him: "Master Guan, do you think this could have been done by someone from the Xue family? Otherwise, how could it be such a coincidence?"

Guan Yue scoffed, "Their family is very weak, and the only male is only ten years old. Who do you think did it?"

The servant said embarrassedly.

Although Guan Yue denied the servant's guess, he actually felt that it was a bit too coincidental, so he still went to the Xue family.

When he arrived, Xue Huan was just about to go out.

Yesterday, or to be exact, early this morning, she didn't know what had happened to the man who was placed in the cabin in the mountains, so she had to go see him.

As soon as I opened the door, I saw a young man in his early twenties standing outside, with his fingers bent as if he was about to knock on the door.

Looking at the official uniform he was wearing, Xue Huan's heart skipped a beat. Could it be that the officials from the yamen had found her so quickly? No way, what she had done yesterday was very secretive.

"Who are you?"

"Miss Xue, right? Captain Guan, I came to you to learn some information."

Xue Huan had no intention of inviting him in. "My mother and sister are afraid of strangers, so we won't invite Captain Guan in. Let's talk here."

She walked to the persimmon tree not far away.

Guan Yue looked at her, with a strange look in his eyes. Most people would be more or less awed when they saw people from the yamen, but this girl didn't have that. Instead, her attitude was very normal.

Could it be that she is the daughter of a hunter and is braver than ordinary girls?

"Miss Xue, I heard that Master Qian brought people here yesterday and tried to take your mother away by force, but you chased them away in the end?"

Xue Huan corrected him: "It wasn't me, it was my big black dog."

Guan Yue smiled and didn't dwell on it. "Master Qian was stabbed in the abdomen last night. Did you know about this?"

"Abdomen? Shouldn't it be—" The vital organ? Xue Huan almost swallowed the rest of the sentence. She realized that the man in front of her was trying to trick her, and her face changed slightly.

The change in her expression did not escape Guan Yue's eyes. His eyes flashed, "Shouldn't it be what?"

"Shouldn't it be the heart? For a man as evil as Qian Dazhi, if someone really wants to do justice for him, they should stab him directly in the heart and kill him with one blow, right?" Xue Huan simply stopped hiding her disgust for Qian Dazhi and said half-truthfully.
