Chapter 171: The Man in the Car

Xie Yun paused. In fact, she deliberately told Lin Yuzhu about her engagement. She knew that Lin Yuzhu regarded her as a friend and would definitely ask about it. In this way, she could use her to find out about the situation of the Xu family.

But when the time came, she couldn't help but feel disgusted with herself. Yuzhu really regarded her as a friend, but she wanted to use her.

"Tell me!" Lin Yuzhu said anxiously.

"The Xu family runs a grain and oil shop in the west of the city."

"The Xu family?" Lin Yuzhu had never heard of them. "How many people are there in their family? What's the man like? Is he handsome? Does he have a good temper? Are his parents easy to get along with?"

She asked a series of questions in rapid succession, showing more concern for the family she was going to marry than Xie Yun's father and stepmother.

Xie Yun's eyes suddenly became wet. She blinked hard to force the tears back.

"I don't know either."

"You're about to get married, and you didn't even know?" Lin Yuzhu stamped her feet. Thinking of the look her stepmother had given her earlier, an idea suddenly occurred to her: "Could it be that they haven't even inquired about the family's situation and are just trying to use you as a betrothal gift?"

After she finished speaking, she realized that she had said the wrong thing and quickly slapped her mouth, "Ayun, I'm sorry, I didn't mean it..."

Xie Yun shook his head, "I know, you don't have to blame yourself."

"If that's the case, then I definitely can't watch you jump into the fire pit! Just wait, I will definitely find out the situation of the Xu family and tell you when the time comes!"

Lin Yuzhu said this and ran off in a hurry. After running a few steps, she remembered something and ran back. She stuffed a purse into her hand and said, "Ayun, wait for me."

In the purse was some money and a small jar of candy.

Not long after, Lin Yuzhu came to the Xie family again and brought Xie Yun out.

"Ayun, I'm telling you, you must never marry into the Xu family!"

Without waiting for Xie Yun to ask, Lin Yuzhu angrily told him everything she had asked her elder brother to find out.

"You don't know, that Xu guy is over thirty, short and fat, and he's a widower! He was married once before, but his wife was tortured to death by the Xu family because she gave birth to a daughter! That girl is almost your age, and she's being treated like a maid by the Xu family. It's really pitiful."

Seeing Xie Yun with her eyes downcast and no words spoken, Lin Yuzhu waved her hand in front of her, "Ayun?"

Xie Yun came back to his senses and smiled at her, "I'm fine."

She said it was okay, but she had a smile on her face and tears in her eyes. Although she didn't shed a single tear, it was heartbreaking to look at her.

Lin Yuzhu pulled her over and patted her on the back like a big sister: "Ayun, don't worry, I will save you from this suffering. Otherwise, I will take you home?"

Xie Yun shook his head. "Yuzhu, don't worry about this. I have my own way."

"What's the solution? Tell me about it. Maybe I can give you some advice."

"I told you, but you are not allowed to tell anyone else. No one."

"Okay, I promise not to tell anyone."

Thinking of this, Xie Yun withdrew his thoughts, his gaze fell on the green river in front of him, and he sighed softly.

In fact, what solution did she have? The solution she mentioned - quietly leaving home and going to live with her aunt in Lincheng - was just a trick to appease Lin Yuzhu.

My mother did have a younger sister, but even she herself didn't know where she was, so she had no idea where to look for her.

Lin Yuzhu, however, was unaware of this and enthusiastically discussed with her how to escape the marriage, as if it were an exciting and fun adventure. However, Xie Yun did not blame her. She knew that she was just too well protected by her family and had a childish mentality.

Although she had no aunt to turn to, Xie Yun's escape from marriage was true and not a whim. She did not expect to marry into a good family, but she could not marry a man who was worthy of being her father and who married her only to give birth to a son.

If she had not walked into Zhaoji Snack Shop that day, she would not have known that women could be self-reliant and stand in front of others with confidence and grace.

Could she do it, too? As she lay tossing and turning in bed, she would imagine the women in Zhao Ji graciously entertaining their guests.

The more she thought about it, the more she couldn't accept being "married" into the Xu family by her father and stepmother like a commodity.

So, she wants to escape!

As for where to go after escaping, she has been thinking about it these days.

However, she appeared to be the same as before, without showing any sign of abnormality. She didn't dare to do so, because once her stepmother found out, she might never have another chance.

Two days later, it was the anniversary of her mother's death, and Xie Yun suggested going to the grave to burn a stick of incense for her mother.

Although the stepmother cursed, she agreed anyway.

"Wait." Just as Xie Yun was about to cross the threshold, her stepmother called her.

Xie Yun's body stiffened.

The stepmother came over and uncovered the white cloth covering her basket. She checked the contents and saw only a few candles, a handful of incense, and a bag of cakes. She waved her hand and said, "Okay, go ahead and come back early. If you miss dinner, I won't leave any food for you."

Xie Yun responded softly, "I understand, mother."

She walked through the gate and out of the alley. The moment the sunlight hit her body, she slowly breathed a sigh of relief, feeling as if she had come back to life.

Lin Yuzhu, who had been waiting at the entrance of the alley, popped her head out of the window, waved at her repeatedly, and whispered to her to come over quickly, as if they were making a secret contact.

Even though Xie Yun was nervous, he couldn't help but laugh at her at this moment.

The moment he got in the car and lifted the curtain, the remaining smile on Xie Yun's face froze.

Besides Lin Yuzhu, there was actually another man in the car!

Lin Yuzhu stuck out her tongue at Xie Yun guiltily, then pulled her to sit next to her. "Ah Yun, this is my brother Lin Huan. I ran into him when I came out, and he actually noticed something was wrong. He insisted on following me here, so I had no choice but to tell him."

After she finished speaking, she didn't dare to look into Xie Yun's eyes. She lowered her head, held her breath, and concentrated, like a dog that had done something wrong and was waiting for judgment.

Xie Yun held her hand and said softly, "I don't blame you, Yuzhu."

She looked across at Lin Huan and bowed to him as a gesture of greeting. "Mr. Lin, Yuzhu helped me out of kindness, so please don't blame her. Since you've already discovered it, please take Yuzhu back. Today, just pretend you haven't seen me."

Lin Yuzhu's face changed drastically, and she tightened her grip on her hand, "Ayun, how can that be possible!"

She had agreed before that she would take her out of the city and watch her get on the boat before leaving.

At this time, Lin Huan spoke up: "Miss Xie, you are not actually going to seek refuge with your aunt, are you?"

Lin Yuzhu looked at him puzzledly, "Brother, what do you mean?"

Xie Yun had no intention of explaining, "Yuzhu, it's getting late. I should leave the city, otherwise I will be late."

As he said this, he was about to get off the car.

Lin Huan stretched out his long legs and blocked the car door. Xie Yun looked at him in surprise.
