Chapter 1029 Mid-Autumn Festival
The four of them met up and followed the flow of people. After walking for a while, they were finally able to appreciate the lanterns hanging on both sides and the various light cars slowly turning on the roadside.
This is a capital city that is more prosperous than Yizhou City. Not only Bai Shan and the other three younger ones, but even Bai Dalang were attracted by the hustle and bustle.
Acrobatics, lanterns, and all kinds of rare toys and ways of playing that I had never seen before, many of which were seen for the first time.
They thought they wouldn't be able to see much on this street, but it took them more than an hour just to walk around this street.
When they finally came back, they were holding several lanterns in their hands, all of which were won by guessing riddles. Only Bai Dalang really liked a palace lantern, so he couldn't help but spend money to buy it.
Manbao, Baishan and Bai Erlang were very contemptuous of this. These lanterns could not be kept until next year, so they were just for fun.
If you win, you'll take it home and hang it for two days before probably throwing it away. It's not worth it to spend so much money on a lamp.
Manbao didn't realize that his concept of spending money was getting closer and closer to Lao Zhoutou, and Bai Shan and Bai Erlang didn't realize that their concepts were almost the same as Manbao's.
The only sober person was probably Daji, but what could he say?
He actually thought this idea was not bad.
It's better for the masters to be frugal than to spend money recklessly, right?
The group returned home carrying a bunch of lanterns, and each found a good spot under the eaves to hang their own lantern.
Bai Shan and Man Bao had the most lanterns. For some reason, these two just liked guessing riddles. They also sent many people home along the way. Basically, the lanterns they were able to take home were the ones they liked.
Now that his eaves were full of hangings, Manbao ran to the yard, found a tree branch, and after measuring it and feeling that the position was not bad, he asked Daji, the tallest one, to help hang it up.
Of course Daji couldn't hang it up with his hands, so he found a high stool to hang it up.
When Bai Shan saw this, he also started looking for a good spot around the tree. Bai Erlang looked at his only three lanterns, reached out and took them from the eaves, and asked Daji to hang them for him.
Bai Dalang: ...
He looked around, then looked down at the palace lantern in his hand. He couldn't bear to hang it on the tree like that, so he waved and turned away.
He should go back to his own yard. For some reason, he always felt sad when he saw the three of them.
Mr. Zhuang stood in the corridor, watching their antics with a smile on his face. After they finished hanging the lanterns, he stopped the fun and said, "It's getting late. Even though you don't have to go to school tomorrow, you shouldn't stay up too late."
The three of them agreed, bowed, and went to wash up and go to bed.
Because they slept late, played so hard, and experienced so much, the three children all got up late.
Manbao didn't wake up from her sweet dream until Zhou Lijun pushed the door open. She rubbed her eyes and looked at the window. The window was closed, but the sunlight could not be blocked.
Zhou Lijun heard the noise through the screen and said, "Auntie, you haven't woken up yet?"
Manbao stretched himself and responded, then asked, "You didn't come back last night. Did you stay in the shop?"
"Yeah, there were a lot of people last night," Zhou Lijun said happily, yawning and chattering, "You have no idea, the outer city is so lively, crowded with people. Some people came to the store before it got dark and booked a table for a family reunion dinner. Some people sat on the second floor after dark to enjoy the lanterns while eating and drinking. Some people even came in to eat because they were hungry while shopping. We had already prepared a lot of ingredients in advance because we were afraid that many things would increase in price during the festival, so we prepared a little more vegetables that can be preserved. Who knew that they would all be used up last night."
Manbao came out with his clothes on and asked, "You must be very tired, right?"
"If I can make money, I don't mind being so tired every day."
"What time is it now?"
"It's almost noon."
Manbao exclaimed, "I slept so late?"
Zhou Lijun asked with a smile, "Aunt, don't you feel your stomach growling?"
Manbao rubbed his belly and calmed down. After listening carefully, he shook his head and said, "No."
She then asked, "Why are you back at this time? Isn't noon the busiest time?"
"Sixth Uncle used up all the ingredients and sold breakfast this morning. Fifth Uncle saw that we were exhausted after working all night, and since there weren't that many people on the street, he said we didn't need to sell lunch and could wait until dinner. He's out buying ingredients now." Zhou Lijun said, "If I hadn't wanted to sort out the accounts from yesterday and this morning, I would have been back long ago."
Manbao saw that she was yawning and her eyes were a little dark, so he waved his hand and said, "Then go to sleep. I'm getting up. The room will be quiet so you can sleep well."
Zhou Lijun nodded, but she didn't actually care that her aunt was here, because she was so sleepy that she fell asleep as soon as she lay down on the bed.
Manbao quietly changed his clothes and went out to wash up. Bai Shan just got up then.
After they washed up, Aunt Rong gave them a bowl of hot porridge and said, "Eat it first to fill your stomach. It will be lunch soon."
The two nodded, and did not go to the table to eat. Instead, they sat on the steps with their bowls in their hands, gently scraping the meat porridge while letting the Mid-Autumn sunshine shine on their legs.
The two of them felt sleepy again.
After finishing their porridge slowly, they were too lazy to move and just sat comfortably on the steps in a daze, no one spoke.
Bai Erlang, who was in a nearby room, came out clutching his stomach. He sniffed the aroma wafting through the air, then looked at the empty bowls in their hands. He pouted and asked, "Why didn't you call me for breakfast?"
Manbao's mind wandered to his own. He glanced at Bai Erlang and said, "I thought you would prefer to sleep."
Bai Shan nodded. "After all, we want to go to bed right now. We think you feel the same way."
Bai Erlang: "..."
Seeing him staring at them speechlessly, Manbao said, "It's almost time for lunch. If you want to eat, why don't you go wash up?"
Bai Shan said, "Just now, while we were washing up, the teacher took a book to the garden to read. He said that out of sight, out of mind. If you don't wash up now, the teacher will be back soon. If he sees you washing up now, he might be annoyed again."
Manbao: "Mr. Xiaoxin will punish you by making you copy books."
Bai Erlang turned around and went back to the house to get the basin. Although he didn't want to accept their threats, he was really scared because he still had one and a half volumes of "Book of Rites" to finish.
Bai Jilang sighed deeply.
After he finished washing up, Aunt Rong brought him a bowl of meat porridge without hesitation.
Bai Er simply sat down beside them, holding his meat porridge, and ate while saying, "I still need to copy the Book of Rites. It's my homework assignment. Manbao, can you help me?"
"The master will punish you if he finds out."
"If you don't tell me, I won't tell you, and Bai Shan doesn't tell you, who will know?"
Manbao and Baishan turned their heads to look at Daji who was standing nearby basking in the sun.
Daji met their gaze, silently turned around and faced away from them.
