Chapter 1168: Inquiry 2

Chapter 1168: Inquiry 2

Manbao subconsciously looked up at Tao Yi, but over him he saw a woman leaning against the cell door. She was covered in wounds and was looking at the buns in Bai Shan's hand with her eyes wide open.

Manbao pointed at her and asked, "What did she do wrong?"

Tao Yi turned to look at her, frowned, then softened a little. After a while, he said, "Kill your husband."

He paused and said, "Her husband had a bad habit of beating people, and she poisoned him. This is a serious crime and she was sentenced to death by beheading."

Manbao and Baishan were stunned for a moment.

Bai Shan followed her gaze and looked at the other paper bag in her arms, then handed it to Manbao. Manbao took it, walked forward and handed it to her.

The woman was stunned, subconsciously hugged the paper bag, and looked up at Manbao.

Manbao smiled at her and turned back to Baishan.

Ba Pu became dissatisfied and said, "Hey, isn't this for me? Why are you giving it away casually?"

Bai Shan smiled and said, "That bag was originally bought for us to eat, Master Ba, this bag has five, isn't it enough for you?"

Ba Pu's eyes were somewhat sinister, but he had a smile on his face. He said in a very innocent voice, "That's enough. I'm just thinking about tomorrow, right?"

Just listening to this voice, it is easy to give people a good impression, but at this time Bai Shan was still squatting on the ground staring at his face. Seeing his eyes, he felt a chill in his heart.

But he didn't show his smile, instead he said with a smile: "Tomorrow we will come to see our companions and bring you some buns by the way."

Ba Pu said, "Then don't try to fool me with buns like this again. The buns your family usually sends you are much more delicious than this."

Manbao couldn't help but squat down to look at the bun he was eating, and said blankly: "There's so much meat."

Ba Pu ate the buns in his hand in a few bites, and finally stuffed a handful of them and said, "But the taste is a lot worse."

Bai Shan's eyes deepened slightly, and he nodded with a smile, "No problem, I'll send you some homemade buns tomorrow. By the way, Master Ba, did our friend sleep well last night?"

Ba Pu leaned against the prison door and asked with a smile, "Why didn't you go to see them?"

Bai Shan smiled lightly and said, "Can't Master Ba hear whether we went or not?"

Ba Pu was startled for a moment, then looked up at Bai Shan. He knew that after meeting someone, he had underestimated Bai Shan because of his young age. He smiled and quickly realized what was happening. He rubbed his head with his greasy hands and said with a smile, "Yes, you didn't go. I vaguely heard someone say that no one is allowed to visit them anymore."

Bai Shan smiled and asked, "Besides that, what else did you hear?"

Ba Pu's eyes shifted slightly, and when he saw the faint shadow at the entrance to the cell, he smiled as usual, "Any more noise? Just some quiet rustling noises. You two are the only ones who like to talk over there anyway. Sigh, now that you're gone, I'm feeling quite lonely."

Bai Shan didn't notice his hidden gaze, but Man Bao was a doctor, so she noticed it.

Manbao turned slightly and looked towards the entrance of the cell. He saw that it was dark there and there seemed to be nothing there.

Behind Manbao, the female prisoner leaned against the wooden railing, reached out to take out a bun, smelled it, glanced at the shadow at the entrance, then lowered her head and slowly began to chew it.

Bai Shan couldn't get anything out of Ba Pu, so he was not in a hurry. After chatting for a while, he said goodbye and left.

Tao Yi escorted the two men out the door and waved his hand weakly, saying, "This prison is unlucky. If you don't have anything to do, don't come. Let the servants do the work of delivering things."

Bai Shan smiled and said, "We've already stayed here before, so why should we be afraid of bad luck if we stay for a while? Anyway, we have nothing to do at home now, so why not come here to visit our friends? Mr. Tao, Zhou Liu's cooking is delicious. Do you want me to bring you some tomorrow?"

Tao Yi was silent.

He was much more tired than Bai Shan and the others. Ever since the Queen Mother's birthday banquet, he had been guarding here for twelve hours a day. Except for occasionally sneaking home to wash up, he had to eat and sleep here all the time and was already fed up with it.

However, the food at Bai Shan's house seems to be quite good.

Seeing that he was silent, Bai Shan took it as his consent, smiled, said goodbye to him, and pulled Manbao into the car.

As soon as the car curtain was lowered, the smile on Bai Shan's face fell, and Man Bao's calm expression also collapsed. Both of them felt a little depressed.

The carriage started to rumble, and when it had gone quite a distance, Bai Shancai said, "Ba Pu deceived us."

Manbao looked worried, "They won't torture Xiang Mingxue, right?"

Bai Shan thought about it and shook his head. "No, the judges are still Lord Wei and Old Lord Tang. They are not the kind of people who would torture someone to extract a confession. Besides, Xiang Mingxue has nothing to hide from them."

He lowered his voice and said, "I suspect they moved Xiang Mingxue to another place?"

"Why?" Manbao wondered.

Bai Shan pondered, "To protect their safety. Xiang Mingxue's situation is different from ours. He assassinated the King of Yizhou. He might want to kill him more than us. It's also possible that Xiang Mingxue knows some of his secrets."

Manbao pondered, "So they're going to hide this from us too? Then will we still come tomorrow?"

Bai Shan nodded vigorously and said decisively: "Come on, if it is for Xiang Mingxue's safety, then how about we accompany them in this scene?"

Manbao nodded, "We don't have anything to do lately anyway."

Bai Shan nodded again, "That's right."

They really had nothing to do, so early this morning Bai Shan and Bai Erlang went to the Imperial College first. Then Kong Jijiu met him in person and approved a long vacation for him, asking him to have a good rest at home and recuperate his body which was damaged by imprisonment.

Bai Shan, who had gained a little weight and had a rosy complexion, silently took the note.

Kong Jijiu obviously saw his physical condition and felt quite unwilling, so before he left, he asked the teachers of their Class A3 to temporarily assign Bai Shan a bunch of homework, wrote him a list of books, and asked him to go back and read those texts.

But the problem was that he had already read and memorized most of the texts listed by the teachers.

However, out of a very secretive mentality at the time, Bai Shan did not tell Kong Jijiu and the teachers, but quietly collected the list of books and assigned homework and said goodbye and went back.

This made Kong Jijiu and a group of teachers very satisfied with him. Wu Xueguan, who had never liked him, even sent him to the gate of the Imperial College and patted his shoulder with a look of satisfaction.

Although the assigned homework seemed a lot, Bai Shan compared it with his own vacation and thought it would be very boring.

The two of them sat in the carriage, staring at each other. Manbao lifted the curtain and took a look outside. He saw that it was not far from Jishiditang. It was just a short walk around the corner. He immediately said, "Daji, let's go to Jishiditang first."

"Why are you going to Jishitang? Didn't you already go there this morning and get all the medicine you need?"

Manbao said, "Since we have to go to the prison tomorrow, I'll bring some ointment for the female prisoner."

Bai Shan did not object.

See you at 8pm
