Chapter 1319 Acute Illness
After a year, Zhuangzi had accumulated quite a lot of accounts. Bai Shan spent an entire afternoon sorting out all the accounts. When he looked up, he saw Manbao and Bai Erlang writing at their respective desks.
He leaned over to take a look out of curiosity, "What are you writing?"
Bai Erlang said without even looking up, "Biographies, write more while you don't have to study."
Bai Shan turned to look at Manbao and found that he could not understand most of what she wrote. She knew it was a medical book, so she turned her head and ignored him.
He picked up the account book on the table and said directly, without caring whether the two were listening or not, "I have already calculated it. This year's income from the farm is 286 taels per person."
Bai Shan turned around and asked Bai Erlang, "Should I pay you back? Or should I wait until your cousin leaves?"
Bai Erlang heard this and rolled his eyes slightly, saying, "No hurry, I'll return it after my cousin leaves."
Bai Shan agreed.
Bai Erlang said he wanted to persuade his cousin. After dinner that night, the family pulled Chen Bo into the room and started to persuade him earnestly.
Chen Bo was only a few years older than them, and was full of youthful vigor. Seeing Bai Erlang go back on his word, he angrily threw his sleeves and tried to leave. "If you don't want to borrow money, just say so. Why are you making up so many excuses?"
Bai Erlang chased after him and grabbed him, "Cousin, it's not that I don't want to lend it to you, I just think this business you're running is unreliable. You just said you wanted to start a cloth shop business, but have you found a good source of goods? Have you inquired about the purchase prices of other cloth shops?"
Chen Bo shook off his hand. "Who taught you this? Your senior brother or sister? You didn't ask me these questions when I borrowed money from you last night."
Bai Erlang said, "I didn't ask then because I had just returned home and was tired, and we didn't talk about this."
How could he know that his cousin was already married, but seemed even less reliable than Zhou Liuge. No, even less reliable than him.
But Chen Bo didn't believe it. He had felt a little uneasy in the afternoon, thinking that what Bai Shan and Zhou Man said at noon had a hidden meaning. Sure enough, Bai Er went back on his word.
Chen Bo was very unhappy, so he pushed his hand away and walked towards the guest house angrily. Bai Erlang hurriedly chased after him.
Bai Dalang lived in the next yard. He heard the quarrel, walked out, leaning against the wall, and looked at them from behind the door. "What are you quarreling about?"
Chen Bo was the same age as Bai Dalang, but younger than him, so he called him cousin. "Cousin, please judge for yourself. Erlang agreed to lend me money, and I told my mother about it this afternoon. But now he doesn't want to lend me the money anymore. He even made so many excuses for me, saying my business is not doing well..."
Bai Erlang stared at his brother's face and said, "Brother, what's wrong with you? Are you feeling unwell?"
Bai Dalang touched his stomach and said, "I don't know if it's because the food at home is not clean, but I have been having diarrhea since dinner."
Chen Bo pulled Bai Erlang and said, "Don't change the subject."
Bai Dalang also advised them, "Stop arguing. What can't brothers talk to each other properly? It's just a loan, isn't it? How much do you want, cousin? I still have some."
"Is this about borrowing money?" Bai Erlang said, "I'm just worried you'll lose money. It's just a loan. Why can't I lend you money? In the end, if you can't pay it back, my uncle will pay it back anyway...Brother, you look so pale. How could you be like this just because you had diarrhea?"
When Chen Bo heard him say this, although he knew deep down that what he said made some sense, he still felt very uncomfortable.
What do you mean his father will pay it back?
Do you think he will definitely lose money?
He wanted to argue with Bai Erlang, but Bai Erlang was no longer willing to argue with him. He ran forward to support Bai Dalang and said, "Brother, how are you?"
Bai Dalang waved his hand to show that he was fine, then his stomach growled. He widened his eyes, immediately pushed Bai Erlang aside, and ran to the toilet...
Bai Erlang frowned. He grew up with Manbao and knew some simple medical knowledge. He even learned how to take a pulse with Manbao. Although he was only half-baked, no, not even half-baked, he could still read people's faces.
He frowned, turned around and ran out.
Seeing the two brothers running away at once, Chen Bo subconsciously followed Bai Erlang and asked, "Why are you running?"
"I'll go call Manbao, you go check on my big brother."
Chen Bo stopped and muttered, "What's so good about this? It's just diarrhea."
Having said that, he still went to the yard.
Bai Erlang ran to Manbao's house in a flash.
Manbao's family has already had dinner, the door is closed, and everyone is preparing to wash up and go to bed. After all, it's getting dark, right?
Bai Erlang knocked on the door directly. Zhou Sanlang, who was nearby, came over to open the door and said, "Second Young Master, why are you here?"
Bai Erlang ran towards the courtyard as if he knew the way there well, and shouted, "I'm asking Manbao to see a doctor. My elder brother is sick."
Manbao had already taken off her shoes and was studying in the system. Koko had reminded her in advance. She logged out of the system and dragged her shoes to open the door. Meeting Bai Erlang's anxious gaze, she asked, "What's the matter?"
"My eldest brother is sick."
Manbao put on his shoes and went to open the medicine box. "What's wrong?"
"He said he had diarrhea, but I don't think it was just ordinary diarrhea. His face turned pale."
Manbao said, "His face was pale yesterday, but he said it was motion sickness and a headache. Does he still have a headache now?"
"I don't know, go ask him. Anyway, it doesn't look right to me."
Manbao packed up his medicine box and left with him. Xiao Qianshi had already come running over upon hearing the news. Seeing Manbao was leaving like this, she immediately took her cloak and put it on her. "It's getting dark, and the night is windy and cold. Put on this coat."
Then he asked Zhou Sanlang to send him off, "Send him over safely."
Bai Erlang and Manbao said no, it’s just such a short distance, how could they get lost?
But Xiao Qian insisted, "We need to cross the river. There are many ghosts in the water at night. Your third brother is big and strong and can drive away evil spirits. Go quickly!"
Bai Erlang and Manbao: ...
Zhou Sanlang had already put on his coat and walked them over under the moonlight.
The sky was getting darker and darker, and the road was almost invisible. Bai Erlang had not been home for a long time and had no idea where the new potholes on the road were. He accidentally stepped into a small pothole and almost fell.
Manbao kept complaining to him, "You come here without even bringing a lantern, you're so stupid."
Bai Erlang defended himself, "It wasn't completely dark when I came here. How could I have known it was completely dark in just a short while? Your family is so rich, yet you couldn't bear to buy some lanterns to hang up. How despicable."
Zhou Sanlang hunched his neck against the cold wind, listening to the two men bickering and responding with a smile. He looked up and saw lights coming from the other side of the river, so he said, "Someone is here to pick us up."
It was Bai Shan who came over with the Bai family's servants. He just nodded to Zhou Sanlang, handed the lantern in his hand to Zhou Sanlang, and asked him to use it to light his way home. Then he turned to Manbao and said, "Let's go quickly. Our eldest cousin just fainted."
See you at 9pm
