Chapter 1378: Eavesdropping
Bai Dalang wanted to call out to the three of them, but when he saw Miss Cheng standing beside him with her face red and her head bowed, he stopped talking and simply nodded, saying, "Okay, you guys go back first."
The three men turned and walked out of the alley, leading the horses forward for a while. When they were sure that the people in the alley could no longer see them, they immediately abandoned the horses and ran back.
The two guards widened their eyes and helped them hold the horses in disbelief.
The three of them cautiously ran back to the entrance of the alley, not daring to show their heads, and just stuck to the wall to listen to the movements inside.
Miss Cheng Er was also very embarrassed. She didn't know what was wrong. She just wanted to hand the things to him personally, but she regretted it when she just arrived at Erhu Street.
But it just happened that when she was about to turn the carriage around and go back, she ran into Bai Dalang who had just come back from buying meat pies.
Now she has been caught by her younger brothers. I don’t know what they will think of her in the future.
Miss Cheng Er's eyes were red. She stuffed the things in her hand into his and whispered, "I'll go back first."
Bai Dalang sensed her annoyance and didn't know how to comfort her. He could only say, "My brothers are very open-minded. They won't think too much about it."
He paused and then asked, "Why don't you come to my house and sit for a while? My great-aunt will be here soon, and maybe you can see her."
Miss Cheng Er shook her head repeatedly. She had gone out today on the pretext of looking at new year clothes. If her family knew that she came to their house without an elder to accompany her and without sending an invitation, they would definitely be angry with her.
The Bai family would also look down on her.
Miss Cheng Er and Bai Dalang bowed, turned around and left.
The maid quickly supported her hand. Bai Shan and the others who were lying on the wall heard the noise and immediately turned around and ran. They ran back to the horses like the wind, but in their panic they led the wrong horses.
But they couldn't change it back now, so they could only hold their breath and turn their backs to the alley entrance to show that they were not eavesdropping just now, but were just standing here to enjoy the scenery and wait for the big brother.
As soon as Miss Cheng Er came out, she turned her head and saw three people and two guards standing not far away. Her face turned red again. She hurriedly held the maid's hand and walked towards the street corner. The carriage that had been parked on the street hurried over to pick them up.
Bai Dalang chased out and saw the three people. He saw Manbao standing next to Lu'er, while Bai Erlang was holding Bai Shan's Daoli, and Bai Shan was holding Manbao's Chiji. What else was there to understand?
He secretly glared at the three of them, chased after Miss Cheng Er, and sent her to the carriage. After they were far away, he went to settle the score with Bai Shan and the other two.
The three of them didn't even turn around, standing stiffly in the distance, asking the guards beside them, "Has Miss Cheng Er left?"
Guard: "Let's go, the lobby master is coming."
The three of them breathed a sigh of relief and turned back to greet Bai Dalang. Before he could even speak, they started complaining, "Brother, how could you go around with a girl, especially the Second Miss Cheng?"
Bai Shan nodded, "That's right, even if you don't go home, you should at least invite the Second Miss to a restaurant or a hotel to sit down. That would show more respect."
Manbao shook his head, "Brother, you really shouldn't do that. By the way, it looks like you've already agreed to get engaged?"
Before Bai Dalang could utter a single word, they seized the initiative. He could only swallow the question that was about to come to his lips and replied, "Well, our two families have already agreed on it. We even exchanged betrothal gifts yesterday."
This is really efficient. The three of them gave him a thumbs up.
Manbao became interested. "So Miss Cheng came here to see me off? You're leaving for the capital tomorrow, and we don't know when we'll see each other again. What did she give you?"
Bai Dalang stuffed the box in his hand into his sleeve and didn't show it to them.
Bai Shanze asked, "What did my eldest cousin give Miss Cheng Er?"
The three of them looked at his empty hands, then turned to look at the paper bag in the servant's hand behind him. The paper bag looked very familiar.
Bai Erlang said, "Brother, you can't even bear to give someone a meat pie?"
Bai Dalang couldn't help but pat him, "Have you ever seen anyone give a girl a meat pie as a gift?"
Bai Erlang held his head and said, "Of course not, Bai Shan just gave Manbao a meat pie."
Bai Shan: "...I gave you a lot of things, not just meat patties."
Manbao seemed very experienced and suggested, "Brother, you have to give her something that will last a long time, something that is memorable, and something that is suitable for Miss Cheng. Don't forget, you'll be gone for a year."
Bai Dalang was confused and asked, "What did you want to give as a gift?"
"Send flowers," Manbao said confidently, "No girl doesn't like flowers, and spring is coming soon. Do you want to give me a pot of peonies?"
Bai Shan stared at Man Bao with wide eyes, "You want to sell flowers to your eldest cousin?"
Bai Jilang asked, "Is it the kind of flower that only you can find?"
Manbao said: "No, I asked him to go to the street and buy a nice and strong one, so she can take care of it slowly."
Bai Dalang said, "I don't think you can represent other girls. I already have something in mind for her."
Bai Shan was curious, "What is it?"
Bai Dalang didn't answer him. He looked them up and down for a moment and then asked, "Aren't you going to change the horses back?"
The three men then realized that they were leading the wrong horses, so they immediately switched back.
Bai Dalang exhaled a breath, turned around and ordered the two guards not to tell anyone about what happened today, while scolding the three people, "Don't look at anything indecent, don't listen to anything indecent, do you know? Since you saw us, you should have pretended not to see us. You had to come in to talk to us, which is fine, but since you left, why did you come back and lie on the wall to eavesdrop?"
The three apologized for the second half and said they would never do it again, but they objected to the first half. Bai Shan said, "If you know it's rude, why did you still do it?"
The servant behind him quickly explained, "Master Tang, our young master originally wanted to invite Miss Cheng to the restaurant, but Miss Cheng was embarrassed and said she only had a few words to say to our young master, so she got off the car and came to the alley to talk for a few minutes."
Bai Shan expressed his doubts, "But the meat pie vendor at the corner said that my cousin went to buy meat pie a long time ago. How could he have only said a few words after such a long time?"
Bai Dalang was surprised, "How did you know?"
Bai Erlang said, "We also went to buy meat patties and asked for directions. After buying them, we ate them slowly as we walked here. Look, we even ate all the meat patties."
The three expressed doubts about the "few words" said by the servant.
Bai Dalang coughed lightly and took the initiative to explain: "It was originally just a few words, but as we talked, it became more and more."
Bai Shan and Man Bao both expressed their understanding, as they often do this.
Bai Dalang said, "Miss Cheng Er is shy, so please don't tell your family."
The three nodded, indicating that they would keep their mouths shut.
Bai Erlang then remembered to ask, "Brother, is there nothing to eat at home? Why did you come out to buy meat patties?"
Bai Dalang coughed lightly, his eyes wandering without saying anything.
