Chapter 3448: Extra Chapter 27

Chapter 3448: Extra Chapter 27

Many people appeared around Wu Yin throughout his life, but the one who had the most profound influence on him, besides his brother and the Great Wu, was Zhou Man.

When he was young and ignorant, he was raised by his elder brother, but his elder brother and the great witch were two different people. He once doubted his own understanding until he went to Chang'an and entered the Imperial Medical Bureau to study.

He met Zhou Man at the age when she was just beginning to think. She must not know that what these students learned from her was not just medical skills.

Tenacity, optimism and tolerance are the most valuable qualities Wu Yin sees in her. As a woman standing in the court, she is not without pressure. Even in the Imperial Medical Bureau that she founded, there are voices that disagree with her.

It's not that she didn't hear it, but she was tough and optimistic, and even tolerated these doubts and contempts, so Wu Yin really regarded her as a teacher.

Naturally, Bai Shan was also recognized as his master from the bottom of his heart.

The master had a request, and even though their positions might be slightly different, he overlooked the difference and decided to fulfill his wish.

"I will do my best." Wu Yin said, then stood up, turned around and went out to find a way to meet the chief.

Zhou Man waited for him to leave and then asked Bai Shan, "Are you going to reveal your identity to Chief Li?"

"If Southern Xinjiang is going to be in chaos, rather than letting it run its course and not knowing where the danger will come from, it's better for us to make the choice," Bai Shan said. "And as you said, the epidemic has already spread. If a war breaks out now, I'm afraid the entire Liaozi tribe will be plunged into chaos. The people of Liaozi are also the people of Dajin."

In a courtyard some distance away, the chief steward was reporting to Chief Li, "...their attitude wasn't like treating a classmate, but more like treating an elder."

"Elders?" Chief Li, leaning against the bed with a pale face, asked, "Are they very old?"

"No, he looks younger than Zhang Wu, and..." The chief steward paused and said, "He seemed approachable when we first met, but the aura he exudes over me is greater than anyone I've ever met."

The chief steward didn't say it explicitly, but Chief Li was among all the people he had met.

"The maid heard correctly. She really vaguely heard Wu Zhang call that female doctor sir?"

"I can't hear it clearly."

Chief Li clenched his fingers, leaned forward and stared at the chief steward, "Do you think it could be Zhou Man, the former director of the Imperial Medical Bureau?"

The chief steward was stunned. "Chief."

Chief Li's eyes flashed with light, and he clenched his fists to feel the strength in his body, but there was none. He knew that he could hardly even stand now, let alone the strength he had before. "If it was her, maybe she could save us."

Chief Li's mind was wavering as if in a tug-of-war. Finally, he said, "Go and invite them. I want to see them in person."

"Chief," the chief steward couldn't help but say, "If people outside knew that you were also infected with malaria..."

"We don't have time to wait," Chief Li said. "If I die, I'll die of malaria before they can kill me. Then they can take the Chief's Mansion without a single soldier. Only if I live can we regain what we've lost."

"What if we guessed wrong and it wasn't Director Zhou?"

Chief Li lowered his eyes and said, "I guessed wrong. Isn't there still Wu Zhang?"

The chief steward: "Don't you distrust him? You even invited Wu Jin back..."

"Wu Jin has a complete inheritance of the Great Shaman. He has no problem with sacrifices and prayers, but when it comes to medical skills, Wu Zhang is still superior." Chief Li paused and said, "Send someone to keep an eye on him. I don't believe he is not afraid of death."

He said, "He is the best doctor in our Liaozi tribe, so we should use him when we can."

The chief steward could only agree. Just as he was about to leave, Chief Li suddenly called out to him, "Who was the witch who stayed in Chang'an with Wu Zhang to study medicine?"

The chief steward said without hesitation: "Wu Lu."

Chief Li asked, "Have you invited him? Where is he now?"

The chief steward: "I invited him, but he never came."

Chief Li was a little disappointed. If someone came, whether he could cure him was uncertain, but at least he could help him identify the identity of Zhou Banniang.

Chief Li sighed and waved his hand, "Go get someone."

Wu Yin was still trying to find a way to meet Chief Li, but the chief steward brought people over to ask Zhou Man and Bai Shan to meet Chief Li.

Wu Yin was stunned for a moment, then hurried forward and asked, "I wonder what the chief wants from them?"

They were worried that Chief Li would do something bad to them.

Bai Shan glanced at Wu Yin and signaled him not to be anxious, so Wu Yin took a step back.

The chief steward looked at them and showed increasing respect for Bai Shan. He smiled kindly and said, "Our chief knows that you two are distinguished guests from the Central Plains. We are very grateful that you are willing to come and treat my wife, so we wanted to thank you in person."

He glanced at Wu Yin and said with a smile, "Zhang Wu, come along. The chief also wants to discuss his wife's condition with you."

Wu Yin looked at Zhou Man.

Zhou Man nodded slightly, and Wu Yin and the chief steward nodded, saying proudly, "Let's go."

The chief steward was not angry, but happy instead. Zhang Wu's attitude just showed that Zhou Man and Bai Shan had very high status.

Zhou Man and Bai Shan followed the chief steward through two buildings and arrived at a remote courtyard halfway up the mountain.

Bai Shan turned around and looked down. From here, she could basically see the entire mansion. She raised her eyebrows. She hadn't noticed it before. It seemed that when they were talking to Wu Yin in the yard, she could see them from here.

Zhou Man sniffed his nose and smelled a familiar medicinal scent, the same as the one in Madam Li's room.

She suddenly had a guess in her mind, and her heart sank.

Illnesses vary in severity and urgency, and she may not be able to save everyone. If Chief Li dies of malaria, southern Xinjiang will be in chaos.

Zhou Man couldn't help but look at Bai Shan, who was also turning her head to look at her. When he saw her looking at him, he smiled at her, reached out and held her hand, and led her into the house.

Chief Li had changed his clothes and was sitting in the study with a desk in front of him. The windows were closed and the light was a little dim, but Zhou Man could still see that he was out of breath. Even though he had made up his face, he still looked sick.

Chief Li fixed his gaze on the two people's holding hands, and slowly moved it up to Bai Shan and Zhou Man's faces. Although he had never seen those two people, the moment he saw them, he knew that these were them.

Chief Li smiled and said, "Lord Bai, this is Commander Zhou."

Zhou Man didn't say anything. Bai Shan said, "My husband and I have retired. Chief Li, please just call us by our given names. My name is Zhishan, and this is my wife, Zhou Ziqian."

He looked Chief Li up and down. Although the light was dim, he could still sense that he looked unwell. Adding to his suspicions, he said, "Chief Li seems unwell."

"Excuse me for embarrassing you, our distinguished guest," Chief Li said to the chief steward, "Please open the window."

He was just unsure of their identities and worried that his illness would spread, so he met people in such a dim room.

When the window was opened and light came in, everyone saw that Chief Li's forehead was covered with sweat and his face was pale.
