Chapter 524: Staying Overnight

Chapter 524: Staying Overnight

Manbao didn't dare to go too far. Under Keke's guidance, she dug up several plants she had never seen before. She picked up one of each kind and quietly put them into the system. Then she went back with the basket on her back.

Because the sun was shining brightly, everyone had been walking from morning to noon, and not only the horses were tired, but everyone was tired too, so at this time everyone was sitting in the teahouse to rest in the shade.

Because Bai Shanbao was reading a book, Bai Erlang was forced to pick up a collection of poems to read. This was the collection of poems that Mr. Zhuang was teaching them recently.

Seeing Manbao coming back, he immediately dropped his book and ran over to join in the fun, asking, "What medicine did you dig up?"

Manbao is very single. "I don't know him yet. Wait for me to check the book later."

"You're always like this, picking things you don't recognize and saying you're digging medicinal herbs, but you're clearly digging weeds."

"Most of the medicinal herbs are wild, and they are all weeds," Manbao took out the plants he dug, cleaned them, and hung them directly on the shaft of the cart, intending to put them away before setting off.

This is how she plans to deal with the grass she dug along the way. No matter whether they are medicinal herbs or not, since she doesn't recognize them, she will keep them and identify them more. She will recognize them later.

Mr. Zhuang was dozing off with his arms propped up. When he heard Manbao's movements, he opened his eyes and said, "Zhou Man, go ask where this is and how we should go next. Maybe we can find a place to stay tonight."

Manbao agreed and turned around to chat with the waiter in the teahouse.

But after a while, Manbao learned everything he wanted to know from the boy.

She ran back and said, "Sir, we are now in Maozhou. Their village is three miles from here. If we go further, we will have to walk fifty miles to get into the city. I'm afraid we won't be able to catch up now."

"But my friend said there's a Taoist temple outside the city. It's quite popular, and travelers who can't make it into the city often stop there to rest. I think we can just stay there."

Mr. Zhuang nodded, stood up and said, "Then let's go."

He stood up and nodded to the five people at the next table, then got into the car and left with his three disciples.

The five people watched them leave, and the middle-aged man in the lead chuckled and said, "Let's rest for a while and then get on the road, otherwise we might not even make it to the Taoist temple in time."

"yes."

The car was shaking. None of the three liked to read in the car. At most, they would check each other's recitation of the textbook. Bai Shanbao pulled aside the curtain and took a look outside. "I'm afraid we'll run into them again tonight."

"So what if they collided? What's the big deal?" Bai Erlang said with a hint of sadness. "Sir, you're being ridiculous! Luojiang County is only a day's journey from Yizhou, yet he insisted on going north and then west to Maozhou. Why bother?"

"To check your homework, hahaha..." Manbao laughed heartily and asked, "The teacher will definitely check your homework tonight. Did you memorize the poem today?"

"I just recited it and I'm almost memorized. Come on, let's check each other." Bai Erlang looked at Manbao, "Did you memorize it?"

"I memorized it."

Bai Erlang didn't believe it, "I've never seen you hold a book."

"I've never held the book, but I heard you recite it, and I read it twice before. After hearing you read it so many times, I've learned it by ear."

Bai Shanbao nodded in agreement.

This is also the reason why they both like sitting with Bai Erlang. If the teacher asks them to recite a poem, they only need to read it two or three times in advance, and then listen to Bai Erlang recite it in the car. Basically, they can memorize it and know it very well.

They were still very happy that they didn't have to flip through the book to confirm in the shaking car.

Bai Erlang was very angry at the two of them and turned around and snorted.

But after a while he still had to turn around and ask the two people to help check the endorsement.

Zhou Silang listened to them reciting books aloud in the car, and he also shook his whip and shook his head, heading southwest with the sound of reading in the car.

Just as Manbao said, they missed the chance to enter the city. When they arrived outside the city, the gate had been closed for a quarter of an hour.

Zhou Silang stood on the shaft of the cart, looked around, and pointed in a direction, saying, "I see the Taoist temple. It's over there."

Mr. Zhuang took one look and said, "Go ahead and ask for the night."

The main gate of the Taoist temple was closed, but the small door next to it was open. Inside was a spacious quiet room where many farmers were sitting, carrying loads or backpacks.

Daji stopped the carriage and did not let Zhou Silang go forward. Instead, he went forward and knocked on the door of the Taoist temple himself.

The people who were staying inside the door looked at them but did not stop them.

Soon a Taoist boy came to open the door, and Daji asked for permission to stay overnight.

The Taoist boy glanced at the carriage behind them, bowed, and said, "Please forgive me, the guest rooms in the temple are full today, so I can only ask you to stay in the quiet room for the time being."

The Taoist boy pointed to the quiet room next to him and said, "This is a place specially carved out in our Taoist temple to shelter travelers. If you don't mind, you can stay here for the night."

Daji asked, "Can't you free up another room? My husband is really old, and I'm afraid he'll catch a cold if he stays in the quiet room."

The Taoist boy said regretfully, "The guest rooms in the temple are really full. I really can't vacate any more rooms. I'm really sorry."

As soon as he finished speaking, five horses arrived in front of him in an instant. The five people on the horses also heard what he said. A middle-aged man with a white face was about to speak, but the middle-aged man in the lead raised his hand and said with a smile: "It seems that we are a little late. In this case, we can only use the quiet room of your temple to rest for a while tonight."

Seeing that they were easy to talk to, the Taoist boy heaved a sigh of relief and said sideways, "Thank you for your understanding, lay people. Please feel free to go to the quiet room."

The middle-aged man nodded slightly, nodded to Mr. Zhuang, and then led his men into the quiet room first.

Zhou Silang and Daji tied the horses outside and took all the valuables in the carriage into the quiet room.

The quiet room is very clean, but too clean, there is not even a cushion.

Before going out, the people in the Zhou family were very worried that Manbao would catch a cold and get sick, so they prepared a lot of things, such as a small quilt.

Bai Shanbao and the others had prepared mats.

Everyone worked together to spread the mats on the ground and then sat on them.

Zhou Silang took out the naan bread he had bought from the teahouse at noon and shared it with everyone, saying, "Just make do with this for dinner. We can have something delicious tomorrow when we get into the city."

Manbao said, "I want to eat stewed chicken tomorrow."

The five people who forgot to buy dinner: ...

But they had dry food, but the dry food that had been made for several days didn’t taste very good.

Mr. Zhuang could see that they didn't like it very much, so he couldn't help but smile. He took three naan breads from his bag and handed them to Manbao, saying with a smile, "Give them to those gentlemen."

Manbao put down his naan and handed the three to them, saying, "Our master treated you to this."
