Chapter 600 Mask

Chapter 600 Mask

Bai Shanbao persuaded Manbao to stay in the city tomorrow and play. He said, "I heard from Wei Chen that there's a lot of fun in the city. Not only are there boat races, but there's also Nuo opera. Have you ever seen Nuo opera?"

Manbao shook his head, "No, have you seen it?"

"I vaguely remember seeing it once in Longzhou when I was a kid. I don't remember it very clearly, but it was quite interesting. It was about exorcising ghost plagues, and the people wore masks on their faces. It was quite entertaining."

Manbao was very moved by what he said, but she promised Koko that she would find something good for it.

Seeing her interest, Bai Shanbao continued, "It's the Dragon Boat Festival now, so there must be a lot of people selling flowers and plants on the street. The ones you planted in the yard haven't bloomed yet, but I see there are quite a few on the street. We can buy some nice ones when the time comes."

But what she wanted was not the flowers she had seen on the street, but the ones she had never seen before.

Manbao was thinking this when Keke suddenly said, "Host, go if you want to, but don't forget to make it up to me after the Dragon Boat Festival."

Manbao's eyes lit up and he immediately agreed happily in his heart.

Koko added: "If you see any creatures you haven't seen before tomorrow, remember to record them."

Manbaocai got the benefit, so he agreed without thinking.

Manbao nodded to Bai Shanbao, "Okay, let's go to the street to watch Nuo opera tomorrow!"

So Bai Shanbao was happy, Manbao was happy, and Keke was satisfied.

Bai Erlang was a little unhappy when he saw that the two of them had decided on their own, "Why didn't you ask me?"

Bai Shanbao lowered his head and looked at him sitting on the rattan chair in surprise, "Aren't you going?"

"Go!"

Bai Shanbao: "Isn't that good?"

He turned to look at Manbao and asked, "What lesson did the teacher give you today?"

The two of them went to discuss and study.

Shirojiro:......

He puffed his cheeks and decided to ignore them, but after a while, he couldn't help but talk to the two of them, "Is there really a Nuo opera tomorrow? Should we buy some masks as well?"

The two people who were talking about their lessons were immediately distracted. Bai Shanbao said, "When I came back just now, the streets were very lively."

Manbao was very excited, "Then let's go out and play later?"

"Why wait a while? Just go out now." Bai Shanbao left as soon as he said that. He turned around and ran to take the book basket from Daji's hand, carried it back to his room, and then stuffed a few pieces of silver into his purse.

He ran out and called out to his two friends, "Let's go!"

Every day after school at the provincial school, they have free time. Mr. Zhuang never forces them to study, and it all depends on their own initiative. So if they want to go out and play, no one stops them.

Daji followed them out silently.

The cook heard the noise and ran out to warn, "Master, please come back early. I have to start making dinner."

Bai Shanbao waved his hand nonchalantly, turned around and asked Manbao, "Where are Zhou Sige and Zhou Lijun?"

"I'm going out." Manbao came out of the alley and was surprised to see so many new stalls on the street. "Is it so lively now?"

The three of them walked along the street and soon saw a stall selling masks. They couldn't help but rush over and start choosing.

In some of the larger stalls, there are a lot of ghost masks, and they are particularly scary and colorful.

Manbao picked one and put it on his face, then asked Bai Shanbao, "Are you scared?"

Bai Shanbao took a look and shook his head, saying, "Don't be afraid."

He put his on and asked, "Where's mine?"

“It’s not scary.”

Suddenly, a hand was placed on the shoulders of the two men. They couldn't help but look back at the same time. A hideous ghost face suddenly appeared in front of them. The two men couldn't help but scream and took a step back.

Bai Erlang took off his mask and laughed at the two of them, extremely amused. "Did I scare you? Hahahaha, this mask is only scary if you wear it secretly. How can it be scary if you just watch each other put it on?"

The two thought what he said made sense, so they looked at each other and turned around to buy two of the scariest-looking masks from the stall owner.

"Aunt!" Zhou Lijun saw Manbao and hurried over with a backpack on his back. "Aunt, what are you doing here?"

"Buy a mask," Manbao generously put a mask in his hand on her face and compared it to hers, then said with a smile, "This one suits you very well. I'll give it to you."

Bai Shanbao glanced at her backpack and asked, "What have you been doing?"

"My fourth uncle and I went out of town," Zhou Lijun said happily. "Aunt, you don't know that mugwort sells even better in Yizhou City. We went out early this morning to cut mugwort and tied it into small bundles. We sold all of them in just half a day. They're even more expensive than in the county town."

"How much?"

"Four cents a bundle. My fourth uncle and I each took up a stall, and we sold over a hundred bundles in total. We plan to set up our stall again tomorrow morning." Zhou Lijun said, "My fourth uncle is still outside the city cutting mugwort. He didn't want you to worry, so he asked me to come back early to let you know. He might be late."

Manbao responded to show that he understood.

Bai Shanbao and Bai Erlang were confused. "Even mugwort is for sale? Isn't it something you can find everywhere?"

"Of course, my second brother went to the county town to sell mugwort a few years ago."

Bai Shanbao suddenly realized, "I was wondering why every Dragon Boat Festival people say that all the good mugwort near the village has been harvested, forcing them to go far away to get mugwort..."

Bai Erlang also remembered, "Every Dragon Boat Festival, my friends would carry sickles and go to distant fields to harvest the mugwort. So all the good mugwort near the village entrance was harvested by your family?"

Manbao blinked. "They are all wild. It's better to strike first. Who told them not to cut them two days in advance?"

"This stuff is everywhere in the village. It would be great to cut it and plant it fresh on the Dragon Boat Festival. Why cut it in advance?" Bai Shanbao said, "No one would have thought that your family would even sell mugwort."

Manbao snorted, "Many people in the village know about it..."

Bai Shanbao said he didn't know, otherwise he would have taken a sickle in advance to cut a lot and brought it home, and then stuck one on each door frame.

The four of them bought masks, looked at some interesting things on the street, and then slowly walked back home.

After all, it was getting late today, so they decided to go out and play early tomorrow.

Bai Erlang was very thankful, "Thank goodness Mr. Zhuang didn't assign me any homework. I'm going to sleep early tonight, come out earlier tomorrow, and play later."

Manbao also nodded thankfully.

Bai Shanbao: "...I have homework."

Manbao and Bai Erlang looked at him sympathetically, indicating that they could do nothing to help.

Bai Shanbao stared at Manbao and said, "We agreed to study together and share the hardships. You can't go back on your word."

"It is unethical to help with homework."

"You choose. Either you do half of it for me and I'll copy it, or you do all the questions I did. You promised to study with me."

Manbao thought about it and decisively chose the first immoral option. "Then I have to hide from you, sir."
