Chapter 864 Late

Chapter 864 Late

The next morning, County Magistrate Tang selected a few people to go to the countryside with him. Mingli stayed at home waiting for the magistrate. After sending the magistrate away, Mingli put the letter in another box in his pocket and went to find Manbao.

Just at the entrance of the alley, I ran into Bai Shan and Bai Erlang who were in a hurry to go to school.

Mingli was surprised, "Master Shan, you're going to school so late?"

The anxious look on Bai Shan's face disappeared. He coughed lightly and nodded calmly, pretending to be calm: "Well, our house is close to the provincial school, so there is no need to rush."

Bai Erlang in the car was almost dying of anxiety. He opened the curtain and shouted, "You are not anxious, but I am. We have to hand in our homework today, and we have to leave early. The teacher said that if we don't behave today, we are not allowed to leave early at noon."

Bai Shan couldn't help but glance at him, and Mingli under the car tried to hold back her laughter.

Bai Shan didn't let Daji go, but asked, "Why are you here so early in the morning?"

Mingli took out a box from his bosom and said, "The master asked me to deliver a letter to Miss Man, saying it's for Young Master Yang. If you send someone back to Yizhou City, please take this letter with you."

Bai Shan finally breathed a sigh of relief and waved his hand, saying, "Okay, Manbao is still at home, you can go."

After saying that, he lowered the curtain and let Daji go.

Bai Erlang fidgeted uncomfortably and grumbled in a low voice, "It's all your fault for getting up late, otherwise we would have been at school by now."

Bai Shan was unhappy and said, "I did get up late, but you didn't get up early either. If you got up, how could I not wake up?"

Bai Shan said, "You are allowed to sleep in every day, but I am not allowed to wake up late once in a while?"

Bai Erlang was choked and simply turned his head away and ignored him.

It was early in the morning, and there were few pedestrians on the street, and even fewer cars. Daji listened to the two people arguing and could not help but speed up. As soon as they decided who was the winner, Daji stopped the carriage, jumped out, lifted the curtain and said, "Master, we have arrived at the academy."

Bai Erlang didn't ask him to help, nor did he wait for Daji to put down the stool. He jumped out of the carriage directly. Bai Shan handed him his book basket, he took it, turned around and ran towards the academy.

Watching him jump into the academy, Bai Shan lowered the curtain and said, "Let's go."

Daji sent Bai Shan to the provincial school at the moment the bell rang. At this time, no one was entering or leaving the gate of the provincial school. The students and teachers who were supposed to come had already arrived.

Bai Shan stepped on the bench to get out of the car, took the basket and walked in with the sign.

The old man guarding the gate stared at him for a long time and asked worriedly, "Mr. Bai, you don't look well. Are you sick? If you are, ask your husband for a few days off."

Bai Shan smiled at him politely and said, "It's nothing serious. It would be bad if I missed class."

Bai Shan walked into the classroom with a basket of books. The teacher had already started the lecture. Seeing Bai Shan standing outside the door with his head down, the teacher immediately waved and said, "Come in if you're here."

The husband asked with the same concern, "You look a little unwell. Is it because you haven't dealt with the family affairs properly, or are you sick? Do you want to take a couple of days off to go home and rest?"

Bai Shan declined, saying that he could still handle it and that missing classes would be bad.

The gentleman nodded approvingly and asked him to sit down quickly.

Bai Shan sat down as if nothing had happened. Wei Ting, who was sitting to the side behind him, couldn't help but look at him once, then again. As soon as the get out of class was over, he couldn't help but run to his desk and asked, "What's wrong with you? You asked for leave yesterday, and you don't look well today."

Bai Shan: "I didn't sleep well last night."

Wei Ting was very envious. "You're so lucky. Even if you're late, the teacher doesn't punish you. Instead, he's willing to give you two days off. If it were me who was late..."

Ji Hao, who was standing by, heard this and said, "Can you be like him?"

He said, "I've never been late for school once all year. Every day, I'm always one of the first to arrive and the last to leave. I finish my homework the fastest and best. I go to the library as often as you go to the restaurant..."

Wei Ting said angrily, "If you want to praise him, just do it nicely. Why do you have to say it so harshly?"

Ji Hao blushed and shouted, "I didn't praise him."

After saying that, he turned and left.

Wei Ting watched him leave before saying to Bai Shan, "He's a tough-mouthed person with a soft heart. He's worried about you, otherwise he wouldn't have come all the way here."

Bai Shan nodded indifferently.

When Wei Ting saw this, he sighed and felt like he was almost worried to death.

He liked Bai Shan very much and had already considered him a good friend. As for Ji Hao, the two of them had known each other for many years and were good friends who had played mud and skipped classes together.

One of them wants to be friends with someone but refuses to give in, while the other one really doesn't want to be friends with the other person. He is really worried.

Wei Ting scratched his head and finally remembered another topic. "It's Qi Jue's birthday today. Did he invite you?"

Bai Shan said "hmm" and looked at Wei Ting, "Are you going too?"

"Of course I'm going. I've asked my teacher for leave. I'll leave after school this afternoon, go home tonight, and come back for class tomorrow." Wei Ting said, "Ji Hao is going too. Can we go together then?"

Bai Shan shook his head and refused, "I still have to go pick up Bai Er, you guys go first."

"Let's pick him up and go together," Wei Ting said with a smile, "We are already so familiar with each other anyway."

"I still have to go back to pick up Manbao. It's taking too long. You guys go first."

Wei Ting smiled and said, "That's even better. Let's go together. By the way, do you remember when she cheated me last time and said she would compensate me with a bag of snacks?"

Bai Shan: ...He doesn't know whether she remembers it or not, but he doesn't remember it anyway.

Wei Ting and Ji Hao followed Bai Shan back to the alley. Wei Ting kept muttering to himself all the way, "You even lied to me about picking up Bai Er, but Bai Er had already finished class and left. Tell me, don't you want to play with me?"

Unlike Ji Hao, Bai Shan still enjoyed playing with Wei Ting and shook his head: "No, I just don't remember it."

"Who are you kidding? You have such a good memory." But Wei Ting only muttered this sentence. As soon as he reached the entrance of the alley, he rushed in and scared Manbao.

Manbao was standing under a tree, hands behind her back, reciting her lessons when a sudden roar came. She was startled, especially since Keke hadn't given her any warning. She turned around and saw it was Wei Ting, so she asked angrily, "What are you doing?"

Bai Shan came in with a basket of books and gave Wei Ting a warning look, "If you scare her into having a nightmare, be careful that Zhou Si will come back and put you in a sack."

Wei Ting shrank his neck and said, "No way, it's just a scream, you can't be so timid, right?"

"I'm just so timid."

Manbao opened the book and took a look at the content he was supposed to memorize. He found that he had memorized it almost perfectly, so he closed the book and said, "Wait a moment, I'll go get the gift."

Wei Ting exclaimed, "Huh?" "You guys prepared separate gifts? Oh, right, he invited you guys alone, and your family members aren't here."

Bai Shan stood in the yard and chatted with him, "Did your gifts come with your family?"

"Yes, my mother went there early, so I just went to join in the fun, give people blessings, and have a meal." Wei Ting smiled and said, "We are still young, so our family is not in a hurry to celebrate birthdays. However, Ji Hao suffered a lot last year, so they should celebrate his birthday this year. You can go with us then."

After saying that, he gave a wink to Ji Hao who was standing not far from the door.
