"Lin Jiujiu, you've gone too far! I just braided my hair this morning."
Just as Lin's mother woke up the little boy and led him out to wash up, she heard Lin's younger sister calling out her second sister's name loudly.
Without thinking, he slapped her buttocks with the sole of his shoe.
"Lin Xiaomei, do you have any manners at all? Who told you to be so disrespectful and call your second sister by her name?"
Although Lin Xiaomei wasn't in pain after being hit, she felt a little wronged.
They even had to pick up the cloth shoe that Lin's mother had thrown out.
"Mother, I didn't mean it. My second sister bullied me."
Looking at her daughter's head, which resembled a bird's nest, Lin's mother couldn't help but laugh.
"Alright, your sister's busy, don't bother with her. You take the little one to wash up and comb his hair while you're at it. I'll go talk to your sister."
Hearing her mother's words, Lin Xiaomei didn't say anything more. She made a face at Lin Jiujiu and went to fetch water to wash the little bean's face.
Although Lin's mother said that, she naturally wouldn't lecture Lin Jiujiu for the two sisters playing around.
When Lin Jiujiu saw her mother walking this way, she knew that if her mother saw what she was doing, she probably wouldn't be able to have a proper breakfast.
She simply stopped them outside and said, "Mother, my sister-in-law and I are fine here. Please call Father and my elder brother back for dinner."
Lin's mother felt something was amiss, but she didn't think too much about it and nodded in agreement.
"Okay, I'll go get someone right away."
Work needs to be done, but food also needs to be eaten.
"Only when you're full can you have the energy to work," Lin's mother thought, and walked out as fast as the wind.
Lin's father originally thought that when Lin Jiujiu said she wanted to build a house, she only meant to build a few rooms for herself to live in.
But when they saw Lin Luo leading people to surround the entire twenty acres of residential land, and the workers digging along the edge, they were quite surprised.
He was too embarrassed to ask anyone else, so he simply pulled Lin Luo aside.
"Third brother, tell me, what was your second sister thinking? Building houses on such a large plot of land?"
Although my daughter had previously told them to live with her in the future.
Even if the whole family moves here, five or six large rooms are definitely enough, and a total of one acre of land is sufficient.
Lin Luo looked at his father with a puzzled expression and asked him in return.
“This land belongs to my sister. Even if we don’t build houses on it all, we definitely have to put up a wall around it. Otherwise, what if someone takes it over in the future?”
Lin's father thought it made sense, but he wondered how much extra money it would cost to build a wall around all twenty acres of land.
While Mr. Lin was still painfully counting the bills on his fingers, Mrs. Lin called him to have breakfast.
Lin's father thought to himself that he would ask his daughter again later, and then led Lin Luo, Lin Ze, and Lin Yu toward the small courtyard.
When Lin's mother saw the large pot of thick white rice porridge and the oily egg pancakes, she understood everything.
But when she saw her daughter's smile, she felt a lump in her throat and couldn't say a word of reproach.
Mrs. Hu glanced at her mother-in-law cautiously, and only when she saw that her mother-in-law didn't say anything did she feel relieved.
After all, she watched her sister-in-law do all this the whole time, and not only did she not stop her, she became an accomplice. It's only right that her mother-in-law scolds her.
After the family ate breakfast, Lin's father took his sons to help prepare the land, while Lin's mother and Madam Hu stayed in the house to make bedding and clothes for Lin Jiujiu.
Although she bought a lot in the county town yesterday, she only had two sets of clothes that were barely enough to change into.
Moreover, she only bought outerwear; she didn't buy any undergarments or underwear.
Actually, she prefers wearing the clothes she wears in her own private space, but those clothes aren't suitable for public display.
She always washes her clothes and hangs them to dry in the room. However, when Lin's mother came over this morning, she saw that there were no undergarments among her clothes and assumed that she hadn't changed them. As a result, she inevitably gave her a lecture.
Upon learning that she hadn't bought these items yesterday, I immediately found the fabric she had purchased and made several outfits for her on the spot.
Looking at the little clothes her sister-in-law and younger sister were holding, which they were about to put on her, Lin Jiujiu felt inexplicably embarrassed and made an excuse to turn around and leave.
Lin Jiujiu's house-building project is quite a big undertaking.
However, the news spread throughout the village in the time it took to eat breakfast.
The Xiao family suffered a great loss at Lin Jiujiu's hands, and for a while no one dared to provoke her. But the Lin family was not so quiet.
Lin Dashuan, the eldest son of the Lin family, had finished breakfast and was strolling around the village, wondering how to pass the time, when he came across a villager who was barefoot, carrying a hoe and working in the fields. The villager greeted him with a smile.
"Da Shuan, your family is about to strike it rich! Your niece is building a big house at the end of the village. I heard she bought dozens of acres of land and is going to build houses on it all."
This is in preparation for bringing your whole family to enjoy a comfortable life later.
Although the man spoke eloquently, there was a hint of mockery in his eyes.
The village is only so big, with about a hundred households, most of whom come from the same clan. Everyone in the village knows about the Lin family's affairs.
If Lin Jiujiu really becomes successful, let alone take care of them, it would be good enough if she didn't retaliate against them.
After all, wasn't it Lin Dashuan who pushed her out to suffer in place of his own daughter?
Lin Dashuan was a notorious lazybones in the village.
She always uses the excuse that she was born prematurely and is in poor health to avoid doing anything.
If it weren't for the Lin family elders spoiling him, he wouldn't even have food to eat, let alone get married and have children.
He's over forty years old, and he's hardly ever been out in the ground.
Such a person could be considered lucky, for he was born into a farming family; yet, if you say he was unlucky, he could eat without doing any work.
