However, the most unfortunate one was Xu Ling, who did nothing but inexplicably attracted this unexpected disaster.
One can imagine how painful it must have been for her to find out that she was not only taking this course!
Regardless of what kind of turmoil Xu Ling will face at Phil Academy, the Barren Lands are currently enjoying a period of peace and tranquility.
Of course, a peaceful and quiet life also means boredom!
After sitting listlessly on the trunk of the Tree of Life for several months, Emerald could no longer bear this life that was as silent as the night!
Although Old John and his group are still here, to be honest, they are different species, and since they are not the same kind of people, there is almost nothing they can communicate with!
Moreover, Old John and Ella were either tending to the large plot of farmland left by Xu Ling or diligently raising the cubs of the Moonlight Silver Wolf. Although it might not sound like they were very busy, for the frail humans, they were truly overwhelmed.
With Xu Ling gone, Emerald had no desire to even climb down the tree, let alone help. She would just lazily watch the two of them busy themselves.
Today, as always, after feeding the Moonlight Silver Wolf cubs, Old John and Ella, like two diligent worker ants, busily tended to the crops, whose growth rate had been extremely slow since Xu Ling left.
Everything remains unchanged, but Jade's patience has suddenly run out today!
She leaped off the Tree of Life without saying a word and headed straight for the distance.
Emerald's movements were sudden and swift. Old John and Ella didn't even notice that she was almost out of the area. Anos did notice her movements, but unfortunately, his legs were too short, and he couldn't catch up at all. He could only watch helplessly.
Just as Emerald's figure was about to completely disappear into the horizon, she suddenly stopped and stood still.
"Let go!" Emerald looked down at the thin brown roots that had somehow wrapped around her ankle. Instead of taking any violent measures, she impatiently shook her foot.
No other plants would appear here, and even if they did, they wouldn't dare to blatantly interfere with her!
Therefore, it is obvious that this must be the mother tree!
Sure enough, a familiar voice rang out the next moment: "What are you trying to do? Have you forgotten what you promised Lingling?"
“Of course I haven’t forgotten!” Emerald replied, suppressing her impatience. “But… it’s been so long, aren’t you worried about her?”
As if she had touched a nerve with the Tree of Life, Emerald clearly felt that the thin tree roots binding her ankles paused for a moment after her question. Taking advantage of this opportunity, she raised her right leg without hesitation, freeing herself from the restraints.
"I'm worried about her, so I want to go find her!"
Regardless of the Tree of Life's reaction, after uttering those words, Emerald immediately rode the wind and headed away.
However, her feet had barely left the ground when the Tree of Life, reacting instantly, bound her again.
"What are you doing!" Emerald's face showed anger as she stumbled and almost fell. "Aren't you worried about her? That useless cat, and that Moonlight Silver Wolf that's just been cured of its poison but is still useless, aren't you worried at all about Lingling getting into trouble?"
Her tone revealed undisguised impatience.
It would be a lie to say the Tree of Life wasn't worried after so long without any news from Xu Ling, but...
It asked, slightly puzzled, "When did you become so concerned about Lingling?"
So... concerned about Xu Ling? Very concerned?
Emerald was taken aback by the question. She really didn't think she cared about Xu Ling that much; she just missed that feeling of fullness!
Fortunately, the Tree of Life was only asking casually. Before she could think of the right words, the Tree of Life spoke up: "Of course I'm worried about Lingling!"
That's undeniable. After so long without a single word, it's no wonder it's worried!
"But didn't we promise Lingling that we would protect this place?"
No matter what, this place must be important. Otherwise, why would Xu Ling have thought of leaving behind the most powerful elf?
Emerald was not unaware of these things. She raised her eyes and couldn't help but look at the lush Tree of Life in the distance.
This is their elf mother tree. Logically and emotionally, she should stay here to protect it. But... a thought kept stirring in her mind—she wanted to find Xu Ling, no matter what!
"Don't I want to go find Lingling?"
Just then, her thoughts suddenly echoed in her ears, and Emerald was startled, for she hadn't said a word!
Looking down at the thin roots still wrapped around his ankles, he realized that it was the Tree of Life speaking.
"Well—" Emerald deliberately dragged out the word, issuing a tempting invitation, "Shall we go find Lingling together?"
That's a great suggestion! Unfortunately, now is not the right time!
The Tree of Life resolutely refused: "No, I promised Lingling, and I have to keep my promise! Also, don't think I don't know what you're thinking. If I agree, I can't leave here, which means I'll have to let you go find Lingling alone, won't it?"
It won't do that!
The Tree of Life easily saw through her little trick. Emerald shrugged indifferently and complained matter-of-factly, "Why are you so stubborn? Fine—"
Since she couldn't reason with him, she stopped arguing and bent down to pat the tree root that was still tied to her ankle, as if to negotiate: "You can stay if you want, but can I go look for something first?"
"Don't even think about it!"
The next second, the tree roots binding Emerald's ankles tightened their grip, binding her firmly and preventing her from escaping in the slightest.
That wasn't the end of it. Just as Emerald was about to struggle, a sudden, powerful force came from below, trying to pull her towards the ground!
"Hey, what are you doing!" Her right foot slammed hard into the solid ground, and a sharp pain shot through the sole of her foot. This was completely beyond Emerald's imagination, and panic instantly appeared on her face. "Don't tell me you're trying to drag me back like this?!"
The Tree of Life did not answer; instead, it exerted its strength once more, responding to her question with its actions.
In an instant, Jade's foot sank halfway into the hard mud.
"Hiss—" Emerald gasped, "Stop, stop, stop! You don't really want to take me back like this, do you?"
The Tree of Life remains silent, letting its actions speak for themselves.
Seeing that her entire foot was about to sink in, Emerald immediately begged for mercy, "Don't pull me, don't pull me! I can go back by myself! Really!"
Despite her repeated assurances that she would keep her word, the Tree of Life remained unmoved and continued to increase its force, clearly intending to press her into the ground and then bring her back from below!
