Chapter 42 Attack

Unfortunately, Lady overestimated her strength. After pulling for a long time, the Devil Vine remained motionless and unmoved, even wrapping around his arm.

The Devil Vine grabbed Lady and pulled her, but Lady was steady and the Devil Vine couldn't do anything to her.

Just as Lady and the Devil Vine were locked in a tug-of-war, the vine that had been lurking at Karl's feet quietly moved to Lady's feet.

By the time Lady reacted, her legs were already bound, and she fell to the ground with a thud, like a wooden stake.

After he fell to the ground, the devil vine quickly wrapped around him several times. He struggled with all his might, but to no avail.

And because of his struggles, the devil vine tightened even more, and Lady was completely powerless to resist, so she could only ask Carl for help.

"Karl! Help!"

Lying stiffly on the ground, Lady was completely unaware that Carl was also struggling to cope with the devil vines.

Because of Karl's excellent hearing, any vine that tries to sneak up on him will be detected the moment it gets close.

Besides the sneaky vines, there are also the devil vines that violently attack. He not only has to be constantly careful of his footing, but also has to watch out for the devil vines that come crashing down on him.

Even though he's not as disheveled as Lady right now, he's not having an easy time either.

He heard Lady's cries for help perfectly clearly, but he was too preoccupied to pay attention.

However, seeing that Lady was about to be dragged away, Carl had no choice; he couldn't just stand by and watch it all happen.

So Carl kicked the oncoming devil vine with his right foot, then turned and leaped toward Lady.

He grabbed Lady's left foot with his right hand and pulled it back, while his left hand immediately took out a magic scroll from his waist and tore it open.

Instantly, the towering flames surged towards the vines.

Perhaps it was the plant's instinct to survive, but as soon as the fire started to ignite, the devil vine immediately released Lady and retreated.

Seizing the opportunity, Carl drew his short blade again and casually cut off the vines still clinging to Lady's body with two slashes.

"Walk!"

Before the fire was extinguished and the Devil Vine could attack again, Carl grabbed Lady by the collar and, without caring whether Lady was comfortable or not, hurriedly sped away from the place.

Karl sped away, quickly returning to the outer edge of the Misty Forest. He looked back and, seeing that the Devil Vine hadn't followed, breathed a sigh of relief and released his grip on Lady's collar.

"Okay, we're safe now."

Carl relaxed and plopped down on the ground, panting heavily.

Lady straightened her collar and then coughed violently.

Karl was in such a hurry that he pulled up his collar, causing Lady's neck to be squeezed and almost making it hard for her to breathe.

After taking a few deep breaths, Lady finally recovered and was able to ask about what had just happened.

"What exactly is going on?"

"You're asking me? Who am I supposed to ask?"

Carl rolled his eyes at Lady; it was the first time he'd encountered such a situation, and he had no idea what was going on.

Lady awkwardly touched her nose, realizing it was a stupid question.

"What do we do now? The mission isn't complete."

Putting that matter aside for the moment, Lady remembered the main purpose of her visit today.

They accepted a mission, but now they haven't completed it and are in a mess. What are they going to do?

“Go to the ‘Explorers’ and tell them the mission failed, then explain why.”

Lady nodded. With such a troublesome devil vine, it seemed the task had become more difficult. She should indeed inform the "explorer".

but······

Lady turned to look at Carl, who was still sitting on the ground, and asked, "What about you? Aren't you coming with me?"

Carl didn't say what he was going to do.

Was he the only one going on the "explorer" expedition?

“Me?” Karl raised an eyebrow and slowly stood up. “I’ll go in again.”

He was still very concerned about the smell he had just caught, and there was something strange he didn't tell Lady: the devil vines had attacked him earlier.

The Devil Vine seemed to be deliberately preventing him from exploring that scent, so he still wanted to go and see, but of course, he couldn't bring Lady this time.

"I'm going too!"

Lady quickly offered to go along, but Carl patted Lady on the shoulder and declined.

"Go tell the 'explorer' first, then come and wait for me on the outer circle."

After saying that, Carl pushed off with his feet, jumped a few times, and disappeared from Lady's sight.

Left looking disheveled, Lady watched in disbelief as Carl sped away, and could only helplessly go and complete the task Carl had assigned her.

After following Kaopu for a while, Xu Ling suddenly smelled a faint, burning smell.

Unsure, she asked Kaopu, "Kaopu, do you smell anything burning?"

Despite his insistence, he continued walking forward, urging her on, "Hurry up!"

All it wanted now was for Xu Ling to leave quickly and avoid running into the explorers.

It can't worry about anything else for the time being.

Xu Ling kept walking, and seeing that Kao Pi didn't answer, she had no choice but to sniff around some more.

However, this time, the faint smell of burning was gone.

Xu Ling assumed it was just her sense of smell acting up and didn't think much of it. After that, she obediently followed behind Kaopu, looking around curiously.

As the reliable car continued straight, turning around trees and wading around ponds, and continued for quite a while without stopping, Xu Ling couldn't help but ask.

"Reliable, where exactly are we going?"

She didn't actually mind where she went, but she felt that walking around was a waste of time, so she might as well stop and appreciate the scenery properly.

However, as soon as Xu Ling finished speaking, Kaopu stopped.

"arrive."

"arrive?"

Unexpectedly, they arrived here, and Xu Ling looked around curiously.

This place felt much the same as where they had just been, except for the addition of a small pond.

However, Xu Ling didn't mind. Since it was a rare opportunity to go out and have fun, she found everything interesting.

Are there fish in this pond?

Soon, the small pool caught Xu Ling's attention. She walked into the pool, sat down on a smooth rock, and peered into it.

The water in this pool must be fresh water; it looks very clear and has no foul smell at all.

The sunlight shone on the pool, creating a shimmering effect.

Xu Ling couldn't resist bending down and slowly stroking the water's surface with her hand, playing with it.

"Reliable, you brought me here specifically to play in the water?"

Whether it's reliable or not is debatable, but can it be said that this was unexpected?

It just wanted to find a place far away from explorers, but it ended up here by accident.

"I'm glad you like it."

Xu Ling nodded with a smile.

If she hadn't really thought water was anything fun before, now that she was in a barren place with nothing else, she found the presence of water and trees quite interesting.
