Chapter 48 The Lingering Ghost

The silvery-white cub instantly turned ashen-faced.

It looked completely bewildered, not understanding what had happened.

"Awoo?"

What happened?

Just then, Silver Wolf quickly came to his senses and began to get excited.

I never expected him to be taken away too!

After Xu Ling performed two treatments, Silver Wolf clearly felt a change in his injuries, which made him realize that following the strange young lady in front of him might save him.

But Silver Wolf also knew that after he begged the other party to take the cub away, he couldn't push his luck any further—by asking the other party to take him away as well.

Therefore, he desperately suppressed his will to survive.

Unexpectedly, things took a turn for the better. Due to the cub's refusal to compromise and Xu Ling's soft heart—the silver wolf clearly sensed that Xu Ling didn't want to take him with her, but just couldn't bear to see him die like that—he actually agreed to go with her.

Silver Wolf immediately lowered his head, indicating his submission.

"I would be happy to, miss, thank you both for your generosity."

Seeing that Silver Wolf was also willing, Xu Ling breathed a sigh of relief.

Now that the problem is solved, let's leave as soon as possible!

Xu Ling no longer wanted to stay in the Misty Forest and started thinking about her points.

Xu Ling smiled broadly, looking at Kaopu with an ingratiating expression.

"Okay, let's go. I want to go back."

Seeing this, Kaopu remained unmoved, snorted coldly, and uttered a single sentence.

"Let me make it clear beforehand that you'll have to spend points to take them with you. I spent 1,000 points to bring you here, and with these two wolves and you and me, it'll cost a total of 2,000 points to go back."

This is so expensive?!

Xu Ling's smile froze on her face, but noticing the gaze from the silver wolf, she immediately raised the corners of her mouth again and waved her hand as if she didn't care.

"Afraid? What's there to be afraid of? I have plenty of points, haha, haha~"

She felt like crying but couldn't, as if her heart was bleeding. How could it be so expensive!

Even though Xu Ling seemed indifferent, Kaopu could clearly sense her heartache from her somewhat hesitant words.

Should!

It will make you want to get a dog!

I'll let you raise two, let's see how happy you are!

Kaopu inwardly grumbled, but outwardly instructed Xu Ling to prepare.

“Host, give me the cub, and then you drag the silver wolf by its legs.”

Because Xu Ling is tied to Kaopu, even if Xu Ling doesn't have any contact with Kaopu, Kaopu can still take Xu Ling away.

But two silver wolves wouldn't work; only reliable individuals like Xu Ling and another person could contact one of them.

Xu Ling nodded, squatted down, picked up the cub on the ground and handed it to Kaopu, then pulled up the silver wolf's front leg.

"Ready."

After doing all this, Xu Ling nodded to Kaopu, who then hugged the cub. In an instant, the man, Tong, and the two silver wolves disappeared from the spot.

Everything was quiet, as if nothing had happened, except for a few pools of blood left on the spot, indicating what had just occurred.

Not far from here, a wolf with fiery red fur was sniffing around. A gust of wind blew by, and the white wolf sniffed and smelled a hint of blood.

As if to confirm it again, it hurriedly raised its head and sniffed hard once more.

This time, it was absolutely certain that it smelled blood.

Red Wolf began twitching his nose rapidly, trying to pinpoint the source of the bloody smell.

Fortunately, the gust of wind didn't stop immediately. After sniffing for a while, it figured out where it came from and immediately sped off.

In a short while, the red wolf arrived at the pool.

It looked around, and everything seemed normal; it couldn't see anything wrong with it.

Red Wolf twitched its nose again; it was certain that the bloody smell was coming from here.

It lowered its head and began to sniff carefully.

As the red wolf walked, it asked questions, but the smell of blood grew closer and closer, and slowly, it stopped.

Red Wolf's eyes lit up; it was certain that the smell of blood was coming from here.

The area where the red wolf stopped was covered with layers of vines, obscuring the color of the soil below. To confirm its suspicions, it began to paw at the vines in front of it.

The red wolf's forepaws extended sharp claws, and with a single, effortless swipe, the tangled vines before it were reduced to scattered pieces.

The red wolf came a few more times, and the damp soil was revealed under the vines that had covered the ground. It gently grabbed some soil with its right paw and sniffed it carefully.

Just as it had guessed, the smell of blood was indeed coming from here, and for some reason, it also had a familiar scent.

Just as the red wolf was deep in thought, the vines beside it began to stir.

With a "whoosh," the emerald green vines made their move first, sweeping towards the wolf's body.

Unfortunately, even as Red Wolf was deep in thought, he did not lose his vigilance.

As it was entangled by the vines, the red wolf used the reaction force of its four legs to leap backward, then slapped its front paws hard and used its sharp claws to tear the vines that were trying to bind it into pieces.

With its four paws on the ground, the red wolf lowered its body slightly, letting out a low, hoarse growl, waiting for the vines to make their move.

As Red Wolf expected, the emerald green vines immediately shot out. At the same time, a dark figure suddenly shot out from behind Red Wolf. It seemed that Red Wolf was about to be attacked from both sides, but unexpectedly, it leaped to the side, opened its mouth wide, roared, and actually shot out a flame!

The flames swayed from side to side as the wolf's mouth moved, burning the vines of the red wolf that were intertwined in front and behind, causing them to retreat.

Seeing that the situation was about right, the red wolf shut its mouth, and the flames disappeared completely.

The air smelled of burning plants. Just when Red Wolf thought that the troublesome vines had almost stopped attacking it, a dark shadow suddenly slammed down on its head.

Red Wolf immediately moved to the right to dodge the attack, then turned to see what had attacked it.

The dark shadow struck the ground with a "thud," and then began to writhe again.

It's the devil's vine again!

Red Wolf's face showed anger.

This devil vine is truly persistent!

Upon seeing his old enemy, Red Wolf became even more ruthless.

First came the sharp wolf claws, then this time, they easily scratched the devil vine, and visibly, emerald green sap began to drip out.

Then, the red wolf opened its mouth wide and roared out the flames it had just unleashed.

The effect was more obvious this time than before. The Devil Vines began to twist and sway, as if they couldn't withstand the intense flames. Then, the Devil Vines broke off the burned parts on their own, and began to shrink back while oozing sap.

A rustling sound came, and soon the devil vine that had been attacking the red wolf had disappeared, seemingly too afraid to attack again.

A hint of smugness flashed in Red Wolf's eyes, but he immediately shut his mouth again.

Now that the enemy has been repelled, there is no need to use fire anymore; causing a large fire would be counterproductive.
