After that, the four of them sat down on the ground and began to rest.
Those days passed quickly for Mr. and Mrs. John; it felt like they had just closed their eyes when the next day was already over.
The next morning, the four of them entered the outskirts of the barren land together.
To be honest, the barren land truly lived up to its name; it was just as Old John and his companion had observed from afar.
The arid land is cracked into patches, offering virtually no scenery.
But when Old John and his companion came in, they were engrossed in everything they saw. Not to mention the usually cautious Carl, even the thick-skinned Lady seemed to sense something.
Of course, Lady doesn't hide her doubts; she usually asks them on the spot.
Old John explained Lady's doubts by saying that the two of them were looking for any clues about their daughter.
It was at this time that Lady learned the reason why Old John and Ella had come to the Barrens—because they had heard news of a daughter and had come here to find out.
"No wonder you two often gaze into the heart of the barren land; are you afraid that your daughter might go there?"
Lady suddenly realized, "I knew it! I'd been wondering why I'd often seen Mr. and Mrs. John staring in that direction."
However, both John and Ella froze, exchanging a glance.

Old John and Ella were both panicked, but they didn't show it on their faces.
Old John even smiled and readily admitted it.

Lady listened and nodded in agreement.
"Who can argue with that!"
"Oh, old John, you have no idea, there are so many people who come here on their own initiative to explore this place!"
"If I hadn't accepted the mission, I wouldn't have wanted to come at all!"
"You mean, what do you need? There's nothing here, and you have to bring your own food. What's the point of coming here to explore? I don't understand what those people are thinking!"
If you didn't know that Lady was outspoken, you would have thought she was complaining about coming to the Barrens.
Fortunately, old John had already spent some time with Lady and knew his personality, so he didn't take it to heart.
Instead, he cheerfully struck up a conversation with Lady, which made Lady even more excited, her lips moving rapidly!
Carl watched this scene silently, and if it weren't for Old John and Ella, he would have covered his face in embarrassment.

On the afternoon of the third day, as the sun was about to set, the four returned to their camp in the barren land.
After another night of rest, on the fourth day, Carl and Lady paid the fees for the "Explorers'" temporary camp, retrieved their Swift Horse and carriage, and sped off towards Hope City.
If the journey back felt like an eternity, with every minute and second stretching on endlessly.
On the way back, Lady felt that time flew by. In the blink of an eye, several days had passed, and in the blink of an eye, the familiar gates of Hope City were right in front of her.
When Lady returned, she felt refreshed and even the air seemed sweeter.
After entering the city, the carriage took Old John and his wife back to the tavern first.
After today, Old John and his companion's mission is complete.
Lady bid farewell to Old John and Ella with joy at having completed her mission.
"Goodbye, John and Ella. I hope we'll have the opportunity to work together again in the future!"
"Oh, by the way, old John, about what you mentioned, I'll have someone come over to see you tomorrow!"
When Lady brought it up, old John nodded eagerly, a smile on his face.
"Okay, okay, then I'll leave it to you, Lady!"
"Hey, it's just a small favor, nothing at all!"
Lady shook her head, indicating that it was nothing serious.
After Carl bid farewell to Old John and his wife, Carl and Lady drove away in their carriage.
Old John and Ella didn't immediately enter the tavern. Instead, they watched Carl and Ella disappear around the corner before slowly turning around and going into the tavern.
Old John and Ella were covered in dust and looked particularly weathered. The tavern owner was stunned for a long time when he saw them, and for a moment he did not recognize them as Old John and his wife.
Until Old John greeted the boss with a smile.
"Boss, it's me, old John, we're back."
"Oh my!" The boss's eyes widened instantly as he looked Old John and Ella up and down, exclaiming incredulously, "What happened to you two?!"
It's only been nine days since Old John and Ella left, but they've returned as if they've been gone for years!
The boss couldn't hide the shock on his face, but fortunately, Old John and Ella didn't seem to care much.
Old John offered a brief explanation before stating his purpose.
"Boss, we're planning to settle down here. Do you know where we can buy cattle?"
The boss, still somewhat dazed, repeated, "Cow?"
Old John nodded and affirmed, "Yes, awesome!"
Once he was sure he hadn't misheard, the boss nodded.
Then he told Old John where the two of them should go to buy it.
There is a market in the western part of Hope City, which is a place for ordinary people to trade.
That market sells almost anything; you can find whatever you want. But because of this, it's a mixed bag, and outsiders are easily scammed.
