Chapter 126 Again and Again

The next moment, Karl's somewhat indifferent voice came from beside her: "It's too noisy outside, we can't hear each other at all. You should go back and sit down!"

It turns out Karl hadn't noticed!

These words were like an imperial edict.

Old John tried hard to control his emotions and nodded, feigning slight regret.

Afterwards, once out of Karl's sight, she hurriedly hid inside.

Of course, he didn't forget to close the door behind him.

The first thing Old John did upon returning was to look at Ella and ask about the progress of the matter.

Seeing Ella nod, and noticing that the dark fledgling was no longer in the small inner room, he finally felt relieved.

Old John patted his chest to calm his racing heart, then thought to himself, "Let's hope there doesn't happen again!"

However, as the saying goes, what you fear most is what will happen.

After hearing Ella's account, Old John knew that the fledgling had flown away on its own and would definitely not return.

Although that's what he thought, he was still a little worried, fearing that the baby birds might reappear.

Old John was relieved when he still hadn't seen the fledglings all day.

Unfortunately, he put his mind at ease too soon.

Just like yesterday, old John and Ella finished their throat-scratching rye bread and returned to the carriage to rest.

Before getting back into the carriage, old John had no idea that he was about to develop a psychological trauma.

Just like yesterday, the fledgling that old John thought had left and would never return appeared again inside the carriage.

Those golden eyes looked at Ella and old John with pity.

At that moment, old John's face darkened, as somber as the black feathers of a fledgling bird.

Unfortunately, no matter how gloomy his face was, there was only a baby bird in front of him that could not speak, and he was completely helpless against it.

It seems we'll have to send them away one more time.

But we're already at the edge of Thunder Valley today, and tomorrow there might not be any thunder to cover it up.

I wonder if Karl and the others will find out.

Thinking of this, old John and Ella exchanged a glance, both seeing the obvious worry in each other's eyes.

Another anxious night has passed.

On this day, old John looked even more tired, and he couldn't hide it.

He was well aware that he looked unwell, so he frankly said that he hadn't rested well and needed to go back to rest early.

Lady assumed it was just the result of many days of travel and that old John was too old to handle it, so she didn't think much of it.

He even urged old John to go and rest.

Carl watched from the side without saying anything to object.

So, using this as an excuse, old John returned to the carriage openly and legitimately.

Today, Karl was driving the train again.

Old John did the same thing as yesterday.

But today he not only had to talk to Karl, but also keep an eye on Lei Sheng.

Sure enough, the thunder was much quieter than yesterday, but old John was helpless.

In a while, it's foreseeable that we'll never hear thunder again.

Why not take advantage of the moment and give it a try? So Old John made a tough decision and sent Ella into action.

The result was naturally gratifying!

The pitch-black fledglings finally flew away, and Karl didn't even notice them!

Once again, old John felt relieved.

Things can happen once or twice, but not a third time.

Old John thought the same thing would happen, and that after this, the fledgling would never return.

However, to everyone's surprise, this incident happened again and again.

Later, it became a routine that every morning Ella would release the baby bird, and every evening it would appear in the inner room on time.

Every day was like this, and old John was gradually transformed from being terrified of the baby bird into becoming numb to it.

He even had a kind of hope that it would be better if Lady and Carl had found out sooner.

Even so, neither of them ever noticed.

Until they arrived in Hope City, weary from their journey.

Looking at the huge stone monument outside Hope City bearing the words "Hope City," Old John and Ella knew they were one step closer to their goal.

Following the others, they entered Hope City one by one.

Upon entering Hope City, one of the first things to do is find a place to rest.

Back in Hope City, Lady and Carl could naturally return to the Baho Adventurer's Guild to rest.

But with old John and Ella still around, Carl and the others still need to find a place for the couple to stay.

Fortunately, there's a small tavern near the Baho Adventure Team where people can stay.

The tavern has few rooms and the prices are reasonable, making it a perfect spot for Mr. and Mrs. John.

After dropping the old John and his wife off at the tavern, Carl told them to rest for a couple of days and recharge.

Once everyone is refreshed, we'll take another trip to the barren lands.

Since the barren land is desolate, these few days are a good opportunity for the two of them to prepare more dry food in case of emergency.

Old John and Ella were quite in favor of the proposal.

Indeed, the journey from East City to Hope City was long, and Old John, in particular, hadn't slept well for the latter part of the trip because of the baby birds, so he naturally needed a good rest.

Seeing that the two had no objections, Carl and Lady took their leave after the two had settled in, promising to come back to see them the next morning.

Carl and Lady left in the evening.

After seeing Karl and his companion off, old John returned to his room, exhausted. Of course, before leaving, he made sure to tell the tavern owner to prepare dinner and deliver it to their room.

The tavern owner agreed without hesitation.

Since the two of them didn't have any particular requirements for their meals, dinner was quickly prepared and delivered to their room.

Old John looked at the typical Western dinner and sighed.

To be honest, after all these years, he still isn't used to eating like this, but for now he can only make do.

Old John chewed on his bread while discussing it with Ella.

"I'll buy a smaller place to live these next few days, so I can store some things. Maybe my daughter will be able to use it when she comes out."

"Should we ask Carl and the others for help? We're unfamiliar with the area, and we're sure we'll get ripped off if we go to buy it ourselves."

Ella's words made sense, and Old John immediately said, "Then when Carl and the others arrive, I'll go and talk to them and ask them for help!"

The two chatted for a few more minutes, deciding what kind of dry food they wanted to buy, and then stopped talking.

After finishing dinner and tidying up, the two went to bed early.

John no longer had to live in fear today, because the baby bird did not suddenly appear until he fell asleep.

I don't know if they felt unsafe in the city, so they didn't come along.

Before falling asleep, old John was thinking in a daze.
