Chapter 10 Explanation

"This continent is actually divided into three parts. One part is where humans live, which is where the female protagonist is—the Simon Empire. Another part is where we are—the Barren Lands. And the third part is the Misty Forest."

This is something I didn't tell you. I originally planned to add it after one of your divine positions completed part of the task, but now I think I'll just tell you everything directly, and you can decide for yourself."

"Reliable," he paused, glancing at Xu Ling's expression. Seeing that she didn't stop him, he continued, "Actually, at first, this continent was without distinction. Various races lived together, and everything was thriving. But at some point, the Misty Forest and the Barren Land appeared."

If the former is merely unsuitable for all races, the latter means that no race can survive in such a place.

At first, none of the races took it seriously; it was just a small, uninhabitable area. After all, the continent was so vast that there were many other places to choose from.

However, things didn't go as planned. No one expected that these two suddenly appearing places would expand so quickly, especially the barren areas, which exceeded everyone's imagination.

In the struggle for survival, different races began to fight for resources, resulting in endless wars and the deaths of people of different races every moment.

Kaopu felt a pang of regret, thinking about the records within its system, those cold, massive amounts of data, all of which signified the damage war had inflicted on reality.

Everyone was waging war for survival, but no one expected the environment to be so cruel.

"No one expected that all of this would further exacerbate the expansion of the barren lands."

The victors, before they could even begin to celebrate, found themselves struggling to keep up with the resources they had fought so hard for. No one had anticipated how cruel the environment would be.

Diseases and disasters continue to ravage the land, and everyone is living in dire straits, suffering unbearable pain…

Xu Ling couldn't help but interrupt Kao Pu's narration.

She found it strange. She remembered that there were gods here. Did the gods just stand by and do nothing?

"And what about the gods?"

To everyone's surprise, Kaopu chuckled lightly, with an unspeakable irony. Kaopu at this moment was completely different from the Kaopu who had been joking with her earlier.

"What do you think? To lend a helping hand? Don't be naive! The gods are high above, how could they pity mortals as lowly as ants? How could they possibly be benevolent to everyone?"

At this point, Kaopu could hardly hide his gloating expression: "They watched as different races perished, and as their people, who were desperately pleading for protection, received no protection, and remained unmoved."

Unfortunately, karma is a cycle. By the time the gods realized they would perish without the faith of mortals, it was too late to reverse the situation. Otherwise, why do you think only the God of Light would remain?

Xu Ling was also very curious. According to Kaopu, if there is no faith, the gods will disappear. So how come only the God of Light still exists?

She asked the question, but the reliable person didn't answer directly. Instead, he mysteriously said, "He is different. You'll find out later."

This is too perfunctory! Xu Ling complained inwardly, wondering if she would ever meet this one and only god.

After saying so much, we still haven't gotten to the point. Realizing that the topic had strayed a bit, Kaopu brought it back.

"As I just said, the population of various races has been dwindling due to war. If this continues, the world will be slowly eroded and cease to exist. What you need to do is protect the diversity of various races."

"What, what did you say?"

Xu Ling found what she heard a bit absurd: protecting racial diversity? Was this definitely not something she had learned in her biology class before?

“It’s just what you hear,” Kaopu said, remembering that Xu Ling only understood plain language, and explained, “In layman’s terms, it’s to ensure that each race has more children.”

"What kind of indecent words are you spouting?!"

Xu Ling was startled by Kaopu's blunt words, her face turned bright red, and she became somewhat incoherent.

"How can I guarantee something like this when I'm just an innocent high school student who's only been a minor deity for a few hundred years?"

"You're making things difficult for me. I didn't have any achievements in my past life, so why should you expect anything from me in this one?"

"No, I want to go back. This world is too terrible, and it has nothing!"

"No! I want to go back!"

Listening to Xu Ling's rambling, Kaopu was on the verge of breaking out in a cold sweat.

"I haven't finished speaking yet. What are you worried about?"

Xu Ling didn't want to listen at all. This was only half of what had happened. If the whole thing was told, her worldview would collapse again!

"I won't listen, I won't listen, you're just spouting nonsense!"

"you!"

Kaopu felt helpless about her nonviolent noncooperation and could only coax her gently.

Xu Ling can throw a tantrum, but if she really quits, even a reliable system can't do anything about it, since everything it has is based on the host's actions.

"Host, listen to me, it's really simple. Besides, this task isn't something you can accomplish overnight; it's all about taking it step by step!"

"Don't try to fool me!" Xu Ling said, her face full of disbelief. "You just said you wouldn't tell me yet, that you'd tell me after we finished half of the farming task! You're just trying to trick me!"

He had spoken too quickly and was now being ruthlessly exposed by Xu Ling. He felt a moment of embarrassment. The core system quickly scanned the garbled text, but it soon returned to normal.

"I'm not kidding you!" the reliable one immediately retorted, then patiently persuaded, "Look, when we were doing the farming tasks, didn't I try my best to help you? I even changed the system settings to make our first step very smooth and save us a lot of detours."

Indeed, being reliable was a great help in the first step!

Seeing that Xu Ling's expression had softened, he relented and put in even more effort.

"Sister, I didn't lie to you, did I? See, when you planted the Tree of Life, I solved the problems you encountered. Didn't I tell you that the Earth Goddess's divine power can bring forth all things, so the sapling is growing very well?"

Later, when something went wrong with the saplings, was it because I asked around that I found the answer?

Trust me, brother. You're the only goddess in this world who grants children, far more powerful than in your past life. It'll be easy for you! Besides, you don't even need to do the task yourself!

The sincerity in his eyes made Xu Ling waver a little.

That makes some sense.

Xu Ling thought about what had happened before. The reliable person had indeed helped a lot and hadn't lied. Her heart began to involuntarily lean towards what the reliable person had said.

"but······"

"But what? Tell me, if you have a problem, I'll solve it for you!"

It was reliable to make a promise immediately, fearing that Xu Ling might hesitate and give her another fright.

Xu Ling was still curious about the task: "What do you mean by not taking the initiative?"

It seems that Xu Ling has gradually accepted it and has begun to inquire about the specific tasks.

Having narrowly escaped disaster, Kaopu breathed a sigh of relief, his voice lightening with ease.

"It's similar to your previous life. In your previous life, you could only get blessings when people had a wish and prayed sincerely. It's similar here. You only need to respond when people pray sincerely. It's just that the divine power is stronger than before and more likely to grant your wish."

If that's the case, then it's actually no different from the previous life.

Xu Ling nodded secretly, feeling that this was still acceptable.

"Okay, I can accept that!"
