He just encountered a wolf yesterday with the neighbor's older brother, so why is he coming here alone again?
Fabian couldn't figure it out, but there was no time left for him to stop and think about it.
Although it was still early, if he stayed any longer, he might not get home until late again!
If he couldn't figure it out, he wouldn't think about it anymore. In order not to worry his parents, Fabian could only keep this question in his heart for the time being. He turned his head and glanced at the slightly dark forest, then turned back and ran back.
Fortunately, he hadn't lingered too long beforehand, and Fabian arrived home at just the right time, neither too early nor too late, similar to usual.
However, his house seemed a little different today than usual!
The house, which is usually quiet, is bustling with activity today!
As soon as Fabian reached his doorstep, he saw a crowd of people blocking the entrance. Many were craning their necks to look inside, while others were chatting amongst themselves.
Unable to see the expressions on everyone's faces, Fabian's heart skipped a beat: Could it be that his mother...?
Before panic could spread, the villagers standing at the back of the crowd spotted Fabian.
Immediately, a smile appeared on her face, and she waved excitedly at Fabian: "Fabian, you're back! Come here! Come here!"
Fabian's bad premonition vanished in the face of the other person's smile, and he breathed a sigh of relief, only to realize that he had broken out in a cold sweat in that short moment.
Ignoring the cold sweat dripping from his forehead, Fabian strode towards Aunt Susan, who was waving at him.
"Aunt Susan, why is everyone at my house? Is something wrong?"
"Great news!" Upon hearing the question, Aunt Susan's smile visibly brightened. "The people from the church have come to take your mother away! Your mother is saved!"
Fabian was stunned, and exclaimed, "How is this possible?!"
Anyone could hear the disbelief in his tone. Aunt Susan wasn't surprised, after all, the Fabian family had taken his mother to church when she first fell ill.
As a result, as you can imagine, the church staff were completely helpless!
But then again, things are different now than before!
Aunt Susan's smile remained unchanged. "Do you remember those new outsiders?"
Before Fabian could nod, she suddenly leaned closer and whispered, "I heard that one of them is a bishop. They weren't planning to make a fuss about it, but when they heard that your mother was sick and hadn't gotten better, they sent someone to take her over!"
Can...can it be saved?
Fabian didn't hear a word of what was said before, only the last sentence, "Send someone to pick up your mother!"
"Does that mean Mother can save her?!" Fabian became excited and stared intently at Aunt Susan, wanting a definite answer from her.
Fortunately, Aunt Susan didn't disappoint him. "Hey, look at what you're saying. If you couldn't save her, why did you come to take your mother away?!"
It really can save lives!
Now that the last trace of worry in his heart was completely relieved, Fabian was so excited that he was about to rush inside.
He's going to see his mother!
However, he had only taken one step forward when Aunt Susan grabbed him and sternly reprimanded him, "Hey, hey, where are you going! They're trying to get your mother out inside, don't go and cause trouble, just wait here!"
As he spoke, he patted the boy's shoulder without any hesitation with his rough, large hand.
Fabian wasn't annoyed by being treated this way; he simply stayed put, chuckling to himself.
Just as Aunt Susan said, the people inside were preparing to move his mother out. Fabian hadn't been waiting outside for long when the villagers who had been noisily surrounding his door suddenly parted to make way for him.
The first to emerge was a church staff member dressed in white and silver robes. After he came out, four burly men carried out a wooden plank.
Lying on the wooden board was Fabian's mother.
"Mom!" Fabian exclaimed instinctively the moment he saw his mother.
The church staff at the front paused upon hearing the sound and immediately looked in Fabian's direction.
Brown-haired boy...
Remembering the bishop's instructions, he coughed lightly and asked, "Are you the son of this family?"
Fabian nodded: "Yes, sir!"
The church staff member hummed in agreement, then stepped forward, saying, "Come on in too!"
Before he finished speaking, a commotion broke out all around, and whispers began to circulate.
"I remember I told him not to have his family accompany him!"
"Yes, yes, why did they send Fabian?"
"Fabian is so lucky!"
The hushed discussions couldn't hide the joy of some.
However, these words did not reach Fabian's ears at all.
Upon hearing that he could accompany him, the boy's face lit up with joy, and he hurriedly thanked the church staff.
They didn't stay long. At the village chief's urging, the church staff, along with Fabian and his mother, quickly disappeared from everyone's sight in a carriage.
"What good fortune!" The village chief couldn't help but let out a long sigh as the carriage became a small black dot in the distance.
Alger knew that Fabian and his mother had arrived at dinnertime.
After being told in a low voice by the local church staff, Alger nodded and whispered, "Prepare dinner and rooms for them first. The priest and I will go over later."
Having received the instructions, the church staff bowed slightly in agreement and left.
Although the church staff were only present for a short time, their behavior was so abrupt that it drew everyone's attention, especially since everyone was seated around the table.
However, only Miller held a higher rank. Everyone else was incredibly curious about the teaching assistant, who remained expressionless, but no one dared to be the first to speak.
Fortunately, Alger was going to tell Miller about this anyway, and before anyone else could rack their brains trying to get the information out of him, he took the initiative to tell him.
After hearing what he said, Miller didn't say anything immediately, but he scooped the mushroom soup with a spoon much faster.
Soon, the milky white soup was gone, Miller put down his spoon and stood up.
Because of his actions, the others who were already watching his behavior immediately stood up as well.
Miller's gaze swept over the group and quickly settled on the girl not far away. "Xu Ling, come on over too."
A casual remark instantly drew everyone's attention to Xu Ling.
Without even looking, Xu Ling knew that everyone's eyes were filled with curiosity.
Fortunately, after saying that, Miller immediately took Alger away from his seat, clearly preparing to meet Fabian and his mother.
Seeing this, Xu Ling followed suit without hesitation.
She didn't want to continue being "baptized" by April and the others' gazes!
