Chapter 278 Compromise

Upon hearing Alger's reply, a barely perceptible hint of satisfaction flashed in Miller's eyes.

In fact, when he sent Alger to inform Cersei, he didn't really care what Cersei's attitude was.

Miller knew that as long as he wanted, no matter what happened in the process, the final result would be as he wished. However... the plan was not hindered in any way and proceeded in an orderly manner. The smooth progress still made him feel slightly happy.

"Very good." It was rare for a word of praise to come out of his cold mouth.

Alger looked up in surprise, his gaze almost rude, staring directly at Miller.

Alger, who had never dared to look Miller in the eye like that before, could not hide his flattery.

He never expected that his subconscious act of filling in the blanks would lead him to hear Lord Miller say something he had never said before!

This is the first time in my life!

Alger couldn't help but become excited, but Miller ignored this obvious change in expression.

Miller didn't notice any of this; his expression remained indifferent. "Make proper arrangements for that—" He paused slightly, as if recalling the witch's name, "Xu Ling, you don't need to arrange any other classes. Just follow my classes."

The tone was casual and even magnanimous, but when Alger heard the words, the excitement on his face froze instantly, and astonishment appeared unexpectedly.

No, no, shouldn't it be just that one course?

A barely perceptible sense of panic rose within Alger. The mission... seemed to have been imperfectly completed? What should he do?!

"Is there a problem?" Miller frowned slightly and asked before he could answer.

"No!" Alger instinctively shook his head, denying it.

A problem? How could that be!

He remained serious, showing no sign of panic, and replied solemnly, "It's already been arranged with Cecilia that Xu Ling will be following the adults' lessons."

"Hmm," Miller nodded, having gotten the answer he wanted, and then asked, "Is there anything else?"

This clearly means that if there's nothing else, he can leave!

Without needing to think twice, almost instantly, Alger understood his unspoken meaning and immediately bowed, saying, "My lord, I shall take my leave now!"

As he spoke, he quickly retreated, and after reaching a certain distance, he turned around and left without any hesitation.

After closing the church doors and making sure the adults inside couldn't hear him, Alger immediately took off running.

He's going to die! He has to tell that witch right now!

That day, after finally managing to calm herself down, Cersei couldn't hold back her temper any longer and completely exploded when she saw Alger return and heard his unreasonable demands.

In a flash, Cersei grabbed her broom and began furiously pounding it on Alger's face, yelling, "Aren't you going too far! This is my student! My—student!!!"

Perhaps she was too angry at the moment, so angry that she almost lost her mind. She completely forgot to use her usually smooth and free-flowing magic, and just smashed it with all her remaining strength.

It has to be said that Sersi's aura at this moment is unmatched! Pure physical attacks alone are enough to leave Alger completely defenseless.

Alger only had time to cover his face with his hands, and in a few moments, his once neat clothes became a mess.

He didn't dare to fight back at this moment, and naturally knew that his behavior was going too far. So he simply let Cersei vent her anger and let her do as she pleased.

No matter what, Cersei hasn't agreed to his request yet, and he doesn't want to fail to complete Lord Miller's mission!

Fortunately, he didn't retaliate after careful consideration. After Cersei vented his anger, his rationality finally returned, and he couldn't help but feel that he had gone a bit too far by grabbing Alger and beating him up.

After all, the one who really deserves a beating is that deadpan face—Miller Angell!!!

Cersei put down her "weapon" and let the broom return to its proper place. She used the broom to support herself, looked at Alger, who was now completely disheveled, took a couple of deep breaths, and remained silent.

After Alger tidied his somewhat messy hair, he still hadn't heard from Cersei, and he couldn't help but sigh inwardly.

It seems this task is really not so easy to complete!

No matter how difficult it is to complete, he has to face the challenge head-on!

After a moment of silence, having mentally prepared his words to persuade Cersei, Alger took a deep breath. Just as he was about to speak, Cersei spoke first.

“Fine.” Her tone was clearly one of compromise. In truth, Cersei knew perfectly well that what good would it do to refuse? The final outcome wouldn't change according to her will!

Circumstances are more powerful than people. Not to mention that the number of witches is far less than that of the church's general population, even if you include the students currently studying at the academy, they are still just a drop in the ocean for the church.

Not only are they outnumbered, but in other areas... well, Cersei won't flatter the witches, but they can't compete with them in anything!

Comparing yourself to others is truly infuriating!

The more she thought about it, the more upset she became. Suddenly, Cecily slumped down, even her words to Alger sounded listless. "You and your bishop can do whatever you want. You don't need to ask me for permission!"

She waved her hand, not even looking at Alger's expression, and sat down nearby, hanging her head in dejection. Against the backdrop of the somewhat gloomy sky outside, she appeared particularly gloomy and heartbroken.

If it were anyone else, they might have already been tormented by their conscience. However, the person who witnessed all of this was Alger!

As someone who dedicated everything to Bishop Miller, Alger was practically heartless!

Regardless of why Cersei suddenly relented, the result was exactly what he wanted to see!

Alger's face lit up with joy, and he glanced at Cersei, who seemed to be wallowing in self-pity, but something about it felt unreal.

Who knows... maybe Cersei will change her mind in the next second?

Alger felt a chill run down his spine. Just in case, he thought it best to leave first!

"Thank you for your understanding, Professor Sersi. Well then, I won't bother you any longer!" After saying these grand words, Alger didn't even realize that he had used honorifics. He turned around and left as if a dog was chasing him. Although his steps were not flustered, his speed was like flying.

Unfortunately, Cersei was still lost in her own world and didn't notice Alger's panic. Otherwise... even if the outcome couldn't be changed at the moment, she could have used this as leverage to threaten Alger at the right time!
