Having figured all this out, old John quietly approached Ella and said, "Find an opportunity to release it later."
Ella nodded, offering no objection to Old John's decision.
However, at this moment, Thunder Valley was still quiet, and the surroundings remained still.
To avoid attracting Lady's attention with their behavior, old John had to suppress his thoughts for the time being.
It's not the right time yet; we should wait until the Thunderbirds get lively before taking action.
However, while Old John and Ella were able to control themselves from making any noise, they were somewhat worried about the fledgling.
Its call is especially captivating!
So, to prevent the baby bird from making any noise, Ella held it in her arms the whole time and soothed it by constantly stroking it.
I wonder if Warcraft's intelligence is higher than that of ordinary animals.
The fledgling seemed to sense what Old John and his companion were thinking, and stayed obediently in Ella's arms.
Ella couldn't hide her affection for the baby bird, which she hadn't expected to be so well-behaved.
Especially when the fledgling looked at Ella with its eyes wide open, Ella always felt that she saw a pitiful look in the fledgling's bright, golden eyes.
What's wrong?
Is it because I'm hungry?
Ella didn't know if the baby bird was hungry, but she took out some snacks from a small jar on her right and tentatively offered them to the baby bird.
These snacks were dried goods that Old John and Ella would prepare every year when they lived in East City; they usually had things like sunflower seeds and peanuts.
Every year, old John would drive his oxcart to the villages near East City to collect sunflower seeds and peanuts.
Peanuts are relatively easy to find. The land near East City is quite fertile, and the residents love peanut butter, so a lot of peanuts are planted every year.
Therefore, it was not difficult for Old John to collect peanuts every year; he could easily collect a lot.
But they ran into trouble with the sunflower seeds.
The villagers would occasionally plant a few sunflowers, but not many. Old John would have to travel to several villages to collect enough.
Fortunately, it only takes a few more days to collect them all.
Once old John has collected enough peanut and sunflower seeds, Ella will start roasting them.
Unlike the locals, Ella would turn both into fried snacks.
If stored properly, it can last a long time.
This time, the two of them left without forgetting the huge pile of roasted nuts and seeds.
Ella gave the baby birds roasted sunflower seeds.
She vaguely remembered that birds liked these things.
The fledgling bird looked at the sunflower seeds in Ella's palm, tilted its head, and seemed to be wondering what they were.
Seeing that the baby bird was just looking at it curiously and hadn't made a move, Ella thought she had guessed wrong.
Just as she was about to withdraw her hand, the baby bird's sharp beak gently moved forward and touched Ella's palm.
The young bird couldn't resist giving it a try.
A "crackling" sound came, and two pieces of sunflower seed shells fell off its sharp beak.
I never expected this baby bird to be so smart; it actually learned to crack sunflower seeds on its own!
A hint of surprise flashed across Ella's eyes.
Seemingly tasting a delicious treat they'd never seen before, the fledgling's eyes lit up, and it hurriedly lowered its head to snatch the sunflower seeds from Ella's palm.
Another series of "click-click" sounds rang out.
However, this time the sounds were so frequent that a few of them drifted into Lady's ears.
Lady certainly wouldn't have suspected there were other creatures in the car; he could only assume that the old Johns were just bored and passing the time by snacking.
After all, the two of them had been snacking on each other more than once or twice; as far as Lady was concerned, he had seen it several times.
At first, Old John and his companion were too embarrassed to eat alone, so they would ask Lady and Carl if they wanted to try it.
Although Lady wanted to nod each time, Carl resolutely refused.
After this happened several times, Old John and his companion stopped asking Carl and Lady's wishes when they ate snacks.
This time, the "click-click" sound reached Lady's ears, making him somewhat restless.
He really wanted to try Old John's snacks, because some of them were things that Lady had never even seen before!
And coincidentally, since Carl is nowhere to be found, perhaps he could ask Old John for something?
Without further ado, Lady took the reins with one hand and tapped lightly on the carriage door with her right.
"Knock knock knock—"
After three calls, Lady probably caught Old John's attention, so she leaned closer to the door frame and raised her voice slightly, saying, "Old John, are you having a snack? Could I have some?"
The knocking on the door was sudden and startled old John and Ella, who were inside.
The two held their breath, then looked at each other and found that the other's eyes were full of terror.
Did Lady discover something amiss?!
Just as the two were losing their minds, Lady's voice rang out.
As Lady spoke, old John's anxiety subsided.
So that's why!
He let out a long sigh of relief, and without keeping Lady waiting, immediately raised his voice and replied, "Of course, Lady!"
After saying that, Old John looked around and found the small cloth bag they used to use to store sunflower seeds and snacks.
Next, he found small jars containing different dried goods and poured a portion of each into a small cloth bag.
Old John didn't stop until he had filled the small cloth bag to the brim.
He weighed the amount in his hand, and thinking it was about right, he walked towards the door of the inner room.
Old John merely opened the inner room door a crack, and immediately the wind howled again.
He heard the sound of a door opening behind him, and Lady immediately leaned back.
"Old John, don't come out, just hand it to me."
The wind suddenly picked up and blew much stronger than before, so Lady felt embarrassed to ask Old John to come out again and gestured for him to hand it over.
“Okay, Lady.”
Old John was pleased with the idea and naturally did not reject Lady's suggestion.
However, he still opened the door a little wider, just enough for him to reach his hand out.
Old John touched Lady's left back with his left hand, which was holding the small cloth bag, gesturing for Lady to take it.
Lady sensed Old John's movement, but without turning around, she reached her right hand over her left shoulder and took the small bag.
Lady took the bag and realized it was quite heavy, so she quickly thanked him, saying, "Thanks, old John!"
"No, no, as long as you like it!"
Before old John could say anything more, Lady urged him inside.
Seeing this, old John didn't say anything more.
With a "snap," the inner room door closed again.
