Chapter 23 Selling Handkerchiefs

The next day, Jiang Cheng got up early and prepared the meal. Meanwhile, Song Tingzhi pulled out the donkey cart, took Song Tao's prescription, and went to the town to buy some medicine.

Jiang Cheng returned to the house and carefully placed the embroidered handkerchief into the package. Then he got in the car and the two of them headed towards the town together.

As soon as they arrived in the town, Song Tingzhi first went to get Song Tao's medicine, and then took Jiang Cheng to the nearest embroidery workshop to take a look.

"Dear guests, what would you like to buy?" The embroidery shop assistant came forward.

"We don't buy things, we sell things." Jiang Cheng waved his hand and said.

The waiter's enthusiasm faded a lot after hearing this, but he did not ignore Jiang Cheng.

"I'm going to find our shopkeeper, please wait!"

The waiter ran to the back to look for someone.

"My surname is Wang. What would you like to sell me?" Shopkeeper Wang came out from behind the house.

"I embroidered some handkerchiefs at home and wanted to ask Shopkeeper Wang if he would accept them?" Jiang Cheng didn't waste any words and took out a few of his embroidered handkerchiefs to show Shopkeeper Wang.

Shopkeeper Wang took a look at Jiang Cheng's handkerchief. The embroidery was excellent and he was quite satisfied.

"This handkerchief is so beautifully embroidered! I wonder how many you have?"

Shopkeeper Wang looked at the pattern on the handkerchief in his hand. It was simple yet interesting, really nice.

"Shopkeeper Wang, I have 30 pieces in total." Jiang Cheng was very happy to hear that besides her family members, people also liked her embroidery.

"So, husband, what's your ideal price range?" Shopkeeper Wang heard that there were only 30 items. Although it was a little less, it was enough to make a name for himself.

Then ask the embroiderers in the embroidery workshop to imitate some of them. It is so simple and convenient to imitate.

Shopkeeper Wang felt like a large sum of money was beckoning towards him.

"Manager Wang, just take care of it!" Jiang Cheng said quickly when he saw that someone was willing to buy it.

"How about 10 coins each, a total of 300 coins?" Shopkeeper Wang thought for a while and gave a price that satisfied him.

"Okay!" Jiang Cheng thought about it. He had spent 120 wen on fabric and thread, and now he had sold them for 300 wen, which meant he had made a profit of 180 wen. He still had some thread at home, so it was not bad.

Jiang Cheng thought this job was pretty good!

"Okay, okay!" Shopkeeper Wang was very happy.

After the two parties exchanged money for the goods, they were both very happy and felt that they had made a profit.

Jiang Cheng gave the money he earned from the sale to Song Tingzhi and asked him to keep the things. After all, there were many people in the town, and Song Tingzhi was tall and strong, so no one would dare to take his things.

After walking for a while, Jiang Cheng saw that Song Tingzhi's head was covered in sweat, so he took out a handkerchief and wiped the sweat off Song Tingzhi.

The weather was too hot, and Song Tingzhi had to pull the donkey cart all the way. The road was crowded and too tiring.

"Let's go get a bowl of ice water!" Jiang Cheng saw Song Tingzhi's sweat, then looked at the red sun in the sky, and prepared to take Song Tingzhi to a shop to drink some ice water to cool down.

"Okay, I'll listen to you." Song Tingzhi nodded. It wasn't even midsummer yet, but it was already so hot that it made people dizzy.

Just when the two were about to go to the ice water shop, a woman suddenly appeared in front of Jiang Cheng and blocked his way.

"Sir, where did you buy that handkerchief?"

"I embroidered this myself." Jiang Cheng was stunned by the question, but still answered her question.

"So that's how it is. Excuse me, my last name is Tang, you can call me Aunt Tang. I want to buy the handkerchief in your hand. How about 15 cents?" Aunt Tang first introduced herself and explained the purpose of her visit.

"Ah?" Jiang Cheng was stunned. How could someone want to buy his handkerchief?

"How about 20 cents? I think the pattern you embroidered is interesting, and I want to buy it for my daughter. The patterns embroidered in town are too bright like peonies, which are not suitable for little girls." Seeing Jiang Cheng hesitant, Aunt Tang added some money.

According to legend, Concubine Li, the favorite of the Emperor of Kyoto, liked brightly colored flowers, so people began to follow her example and embroider bright red and purple patterns.

"That's not what I meant. I've used this handkerchief before. If you want to buy it, I'll go back and embroider some new ones and come back to you."

When Jiang Cheng heard what Aunt Tang said, he quickly waved his hand and made a suggestion.

"Okay, if you come to town next time, come find me at Mingyue Lane. You must come!"

After saying this, Aunt Tang left.

Jiang Cheng was disturbed by this sudden episode. He suppressed his feelings and went to drink ice water with Song Tingzhi first.

After drinking the ice water, Jiang Cheng went to the fabric shop to buy some handkerchiefs and needles and thread to embroider. Then she went to the rice shop to buy some mung beans. The mung beans were almost used up during the summer harvest, so Jiang Cheng bought some more this time.

Song Tingzhi went to Zhu the butcher and bought some meat and offal, and then they went back together.

After returning to the room, Jiang Cheng felt something was wrong, so he pulled Song Tingzhi to sit on the edge of the bed.

"You said, today I went to the embroidery workshop and got 10 wen for a handkerchief, but on the way, Aunt Tang said it was 15 or 20 wen. This means the price of handkerchiefs is not that low. Was I cheated?"

Jiang Cheng analyzed it sentence by sentence, and the more he spoke, the more he felt that he had discovered the truth.

"Shopkeeper Wang probably took the lowest price. When he resells it, it'll be more than 20 wen, so he can be considered to have made a profit."

When Jiang Cheng was selling handkerchiefs, Song Tingzhi was always there, but he just didn't say anything because he wanted Jiang Cheng to exercise more. He didn't want Jiang Cheng to just stay at home. He wanted Jiang Cheng to live his own life.

"How can this be?" Jiang Cheng was angry. He had embroidered those handkerchiefs stitch by stitch, so how could he be happy when the price was lowered?

"Don't be angry, we can sell it ourselves in the future!" Seeing Jiang Cheng jumping up and down in anger, Song Tingzhi pulled him to sit on his lap.

"Sell it yourself?" Jiang Cheng turned his head to look at Song Tingzhi, his eyes full of confusion.

"Yes, Aunt Tang told you today to look for her in Mingyue Lane next time you go to town. We should go look for her next time. We can try selling some in Mingyue Lane first."

Song Tingzhi analyzed to Jiang Cheng that in fact many people in the town sell things on their own, which is more reassuring.

"Okay! Let's try Mingyue Lane next time!" Jiang Cheng thought this method was good and he couldn't wait to try it.

Just as Jiang Cheng was about to stand up, Song Tingzhi hugged him around the waist.

"It's night time now, we should go to bed." Song Tingzhi rubbed Jiang Cheng's back with his nose, making it itchy.

"Sleep, sleep, sleep." Jiang Cheng's enthusiasm was extinguished by Song Tingzhi, and he said unhappily.

The next second, Song Tingzhi pushed Jiang Cheng onto the bed.

"Put out the candle!" Jiang Cheng hit Song Tingzhi and asked him to put out the candle, as it would be embarrassing to have the light on.

"Whoosh—" The candlelight went out and the room became dark in an instant.

The two began their life as husband and wife today.
