On the mountain path, Song Tingzhi was riding back non-stop, trying to get back early the next morning. On the way, he also caught two pheasants to bring back to Song Tao to replenish his body.
"Mom." Song Tingzhi walked much faster down the mountain and arrived home in less than an hour. Song Tingzhi put down all the things on his body, then carried the two pheasants and went into the house.
"Brother." Song Qian was washing dishes in the hut. When she heard that her brother had returned, she hurried out.
"Where's Mom?" Song Tingzhi handed the pheasant to his sister. "I'll make soup with these two to nourish Dad. You can have some too."
"Mom went to Aunt Jiang's house. Sister Li is about to give birth, so Mom went to help. Xiaoyu also went with her."
"Yeah." Song Tingzhi nodded. "I'll go to the town to sell the prey first, and I'll come back to talk about it in the evening."
"Okay, be careful on the road, big brother."
Song Tingzhi pulled out the donkey cart from home, put the prey on it one by one, waved to Song Qian, and left.
Song Tingzhi's father, Song Tao, had fallen ill and the family was in urgent need of money, so why didn't he sell the donkey for money? Xu Sanniang initially considered selling the donkey, but Song Tingzhi rejected the idea. She was worried that her father would be seriously ill, and that a donkey cart would be slower than a human hand to get to town. The sooner they arrived, the better their chances of success. Furthermore, Song Tingzhi had to go to town several times a month to sell his game, and a donkey cart would be faster, saving him time and allowing him to hunt more game for money.
In the town, Song Tingzhi sold the prey he had hunted today to a butcher who collected wild animals for one tael and five hundred coins. When he was about to go back, he passed by a stall selling hairbands.
"Look, this headband is a great one to buy for your husband. It's embroidered with patterns and not expensive." The man who bought the headband was a young man. When he saw Song Tingzhi stopped, he hurriedly shouted.
Hearing this, Song Tingzhi's ears turned red and he said to him, "Help me get four."
One for Jiang Cheng, one each for Niang, Song Qian and Song Yu.
"Okay, ten cents for one, forty cents for four. Take them." The salesman picked out four nice-looking ones and handed them to his big customer.
Song Tingzhi took out forty coins from his pocket and handed them to him, gathered up the hairband, stuffed it into his pocket, and drove away in the donkey cart.
The donkey cart was fast and arrived at Taohua Village in about an hour. Because there was a mountain between Xinghua Village and Taohua Village, Song Tingzhi had to pass through Taohua Village to return to Xinghua Village. So Song Tingzhi could only walk inside Taohua Village. When he passed by Jiang's house, Shen Mei happened to be chatting with the neighbors outside.
Chen Mei saw Song Tingzhi and cursed him a few words. Seeing that Song Tingzhi ignored her, she continued chatting.
"Tingzhi is back." Xu Sanniang had just returned from Aunt Jiang's house. As she was about to enter the house, she saw her son driving the donkey cart back. "Just in time, Qianqian should be ready for dinner."
"Brother!" Song Yu hadn't seen Song Tingzhi for a day, so he hurried over.
Song Ting got off the donkey cart, picked up Song Yu who was running over with one hand, and slowly led the donkey cart into the yard with the other hand.
Seeing how much her youngest son liked his eldest brother, Xu Sanniang couldn't help but laugh and said, "You're already eight years old, why do you still want your eldest brother to hold you? You can't do this when your eldest sister-in-law comes into the family!"
"I don't care, I just like my elder brother and I want him to hold me!" Song Yu turned his head away and didn't look at Xu Sanniang. His mother knew he was laughing at him!
"It's okay, it's not heavy." Song Tingzhi weighed Song Yu.
Xu Sanniang shook her head. This was not a serious matter at all. Her eldest son was really a stubborn person.
Song Tingzhi carried Song Yu into the house and put her down. He took out the hairband and purse from his arms and handed them to Xu Sanniang.
"Mother, this is the money I earned from selling it today. Keep it safe." Song Tingzhi took out one of the hairbands and handed the rest to Xu Sanniang. "Mother, this is for you."
"You kid, you just spend money recklessly." Xu Sanniang scolded, but the smile on her face never faded.
Song Yu and Song Qian were also very happy. Song Yu quickly asked his sister to tie a hairband on his head.
"Brother! Whose is the other one?" Song Yu noticed that his brother had another one in his hand and asked curiously.
"I bought this as a gift. Big brother, I have other uses for it." Seeing that he was discovered by his younger brother, Song Tingzhi quickly made up an excuse to deal with him.
"Oh." Song Yu nodded, didn't ask any more questions, and looked at the hairband in Song Qian's hand.
"Mom, I'll go into the inner room to see Dad first." Seeing that he had dealt with the situation, Song Tingzhi wanted to go into the inner room to see Song Tao.
"Okay, your father has been feeling much better these days. Come in and take a look." Xu Sanniang said to her son, "Come out for dinner later."
"knew."
Song Tingzhi walked into the inner room and saw Song Tao half leaning on the head of the bed. When he saw him come in, he put down the book in his hand.
Song Tao was the only student in the village. When he named Song Tingzhi, he hoped that he could pass the imperial examination. However, Song Tingzhi had no talent for studying, so Song Tao gave up over time.
"Dad." Song Tingzhi felt relieved when he saw that Song Tao's condition had improved a lot.
"Tingzhi, it's all your father's fault." Song Tao had obviously learned from Xu Sanniang the reason why his son's engagement was broken off, and his illness was still a burden to Tingzhi.
"Dad, don't say that. Maybe we are just not destined to be together. There is no need to force it." Song Tingzhi comforted his father. He now hated the Chen Mei family very much. They were really blind.
"Alas, you are almost twenty. If you miss it, the next one will be difficult." Song Tao sighed. His illness is also a bottomless pit!
"It will all happen naturally when the time is right." Song Tingzhi knew Song Tao would say that. After all, his father had been urging him to get married in disguise two years ago.
However, if I work hard, I will probably have a wife soon. Thinking of this, Song Tingzhi's mouth curled up slightly.
