Chapter 1 The Moon of Yesteryear

Chapter 1 The Moon of Yesteryear

The coldness washed over Xie Ning like a tidal wave, seemingly freezing his soul, let alone his normal thoughts. Suddenly, a gust of wind blew by, and Xie Ning felt a chill run through his body, instantly snapping him back to his senses.

Her eyelids were heavy. She was conscious but her body hadn't recovered. She could feel that she was lying down, her fingers felt cold and sticky, and she could faintly smell a foul odor.

When Xie Ning finally opened her eyes and her blurry vision cleared, she found herself lying in a puddle. The water in the puddle was shallow, and the rest was mostly sticky, cold mud.

Because the sense of smell has become more acute, the stench that comes into the nose with each breath is even stronger.

She was still numb all over, with only a faint pain in her forehead.

After lying there for a while, Xie Ning regained some strength and managed to get up. As soon as she turned around, she bumped into a man face to face, which almost made her vomit.

Because it was a corpse, and it looked like it had been dead for a long time. Its face was rotting and it had severe lividity, no wonder it smelled so bad.

By the dim moonlight, Xie Ning finally saw clearly where she was lying. She had never seen what a mass grave looked like, but seeing so many corpses piled up haphazardly here, it was no different from a mass grave.

Just climbing out of that pit made Xie Ning feel like her heart couldn't take it anymore. She was panting heavily, and her heart was pounding so fast that she had the illusion that she would suddenly die at any moment.

Moving to lean against a small tree, Xie Ning took out a pot of water from his spatial storage and drank a few sips. The cool water moistened his chapped lips, and he felt alive again.

Her only advantage is this small, static space of only 1 cubic meter. Initially, this small space was empty, and the things inside were things she secretly put in her previous life.

This wasn't her first time traveling through time; it was more like her second.

She was originally an ordinary person in modern times, but without any warning, her soul transmigrated into the body of an ancient lady. She was even resurrected from the dead in a coffin. But it must be said that she was lucky. Although the body was very weak, the original owner's family treated her very well. The family was not very rich, but they were well-off.

Despite the meticulous care she received, she unfortunately passed away at a young age.

She was a ten-year-old girl when she transmigrated, and she died at the age of sixteen, long past the age of marriage. She was never married, partly because she herself did not want to get married, and partly because she was weak and did not know how long she would live, so her family did not want her to suffer that hardship.

In ancient times, this could be considered very enlightened.

Xie Ning also tried to learn medicine to heal herself, but in the end she only learned a little bit. Even doctors with proper teachers and decades of experience could not cure her weakness. She, who had only studied medicine for a few years, should not embarrass herself.

Although her family took great care of her, she still lived for less than seven years, but she was very content.

She didn't know if she would time travel again, but just in case, Xie Ning hid some things in the small space.

She didn't have much to hide, just some gold and silver jewelry, a few pieces of clothing and shoes, all in ancient style, and a menstrual belt sewn on by her maid. The menstrual belt was probably the only thing she could improve; she didn't know how to make soap, glass, or anything else that other time travelers could.

Even if she could, if she wanted to do it, not to mention whether it would arouse suspicion, with her delicate body that had been lying in bed for nine out of ten days, even thinking would be harmful to her health, let alone doing anything. However, although her family was not extremely wealthy, her mother's family was very rich, and she had therefore saved a lot of money.

There was also a small box of soapberries, a dressing case, and some steamed buns, pastries, and water that she had saved up on her daily needs.

Because it was a still space, the buns were still warm. Xie Ning didn't care if her hands were dirty or not; she just wanted to fill her stomach first. Once she had the strength, Xie Ning got up and left.

She didn't know what time it was. Looking at the slightly bright sky, Xie Ning continued walking with her head down, occasionally tripping over the grass. She deliberately slowed down to make herself walk more steadily, but she was too weak.

Xie Ning wasn't wandering around aimlessly.

There was water where she was lying, which meant there was a river or stream nearby. She needed to clean herself up. Even without a mirror, she knew she wasn't in good shape. Everything she could see was dirty, and there was mud under her fingernails. The water in her space was only enough for her to drink; she couldn't use it for washing, or it would be too wasteful.

Sure enough, after walking for about fifteen minutes, Xie Ning saw a puddle. There was probably a small river or something further up, but for Xie Ning, this small puddle was enough.

After carefully looking around and making sure no one was around, Xie Ning began to wash herself.

Judging from the hairstyle, clothing, and remaining memories of the original owner of the corpse in the mass grave, it should be the Republican era. Unfortunately, some of her clothes are ancient costumes, which would be too conspicuous to wear out. However, her beggar's clothes are so dirty and wet that they are unbearable to look at.

She didn't want to die of typhoid fever right after coming back to life.

Finally, Xie Ning pulled out a riding outfit, narrow-sleeved trousers, which was much better than those wide-sleeved long dresses. In her previous life, she naturally couldn't ride a horse. This was specially made for her by her brother in that life, just because she revealed a hint of longing for riding a horse. Then, he held her in his narrow-sleeved riding outfit and slowly rode around the courtyard a few times.

Well, it only happened once, because she fell seriously ill afterwards, and her brother was also whipped by their father several times.

The narrow-sleeved riding outfit was a bit short for her current body, but she could still fit into it if she loosened the size up.

There was also a small sewing box in the room, which she had "taken" from a maid. Because she kept losing things, the matrons in the courtyard had given the maids a dressing down.

Of course, they couldn't find the thief, since no one would suspect their young lady.

Xie Ning's hair was short, not only the color of withered grass, but also sticking out, making him look like a golden lion king. His face was also sallow, with sunken cheeks. Only his eyes were very big, and his eyelashes were very long.

But perhaps due to malnutrition, his eyes were bloodshot and not clear and bright, and his lips and nails were also purple.

Despite being exhausted, Xie Ning followed the original owner's memories to the town where she used to beg for food.

The original owner died from accidentally hitting his head on a rock while fighting with other beggars over a steamed bun. That's how he got the injury on his forehead.

Xie Ning was very cautious. When she entered the town, she covered her face with a cloth. Although it would seem strange, it was better than being recognized. Even though her face wasn't as dirty as before, she was just afraid of the worst.

It's not that coming back from the dead is scary; Xie Ning could easily find an excuse to say that he wasn't completely dead. But how do you explain what he's wearing and using?

The original owner was a beggar.
