Chapter 164 The Light in the Supermarket

After hanging up the phone, the manager's expression turned completely cold. "Young Master Ye said he did give you a card with an 800,000 yuan limit, but he made it clear that this was the last time. Your excessive spending led to the card being frozen, and it's entirely your own fault."

Zhao Pingchi felt like he'd been struck by lightning, his legs giving way as he slumped onto the sofa. Xi Wanrong leaped up like a cat whose tail had been stepped on: "Nonsense! He clearly said we can spend it as we please! We need to confront Young Master Ye face to face!"

The manager sneered, "Young Master Ye also said that if you dare to harass anyone from the Ye family again, he will personally call the police." He turned to the security guard and said, "Bring me the contract."

The security guard handed over the newly signed car purchase contract, and the manager pointed to the breach of contract clause: "According to the contract, you need to pay a penalty of 20% of the car price, which is 496,000 yuan."

"Four hundred and ninety thousand?" Zhao Pingchi's voice changed. "Where can we get so much money?"

The manager's eyes swept over the luxury goods they were wearing: "These clothes, bags, and watches must be worth a lot of money, right?"

Xi Wanrong clutched her Hermès bag tightly: "No! These are my lives!"

"Then call the police." The manager pretended to take the phone.

"Wait!" Zhao Pingchi hurriedly stopped him, "We...we need to find a way to raise the money!"

The manager looked at his watch and said, "I'll give you two hours. If you don't get paid in two hours, we'll take legal action."

After leaving the 4S store, Zhao Pingchi and Xi Wanrong felt as if they had fallen into an icy cave. They were still wearing expensive designer clothes, but they didn't even have enough money for a taxi.

"It's all your fault!" Xi Wanrong suddenly hit Zhao Pingchi. "Why did you insist on buying such a crappy car? What should we do now?"

Zhao Pingchi let her scold and beat him, his eyes empty: "Sell it... Sell everything you bought before..."

The glass door of the secondhand luxury goods store was flung open, banging against the wall. Zhao Pingchi shuffled in, followed by a sobbing Xi Wanrong.

She held the cherry blossom pink Hermès Birkin bag tightly, her fingers turning white from pinching it, and her nails almost digging into the leather.

"Are you really selling it?" Her voice trembled, tears smudged her mascara, leaving two dark streaks on her face. "This is a limited edition... There are only fifty in the world... You won't be able to buy it anymore..."

Zhao Pingchi gritted his teeth and reached for his bag: "Baby, if you don't sell it, we can't even afford the penalty..."

"Don't touch it!" Xi Wanrong took a step back abruptly, her eyes as fierce as a female beast guarding its food. "It's all your fault! If you hadn't insisted on pretending to be rich to buy a car, would we have fallen to this point?"

Zhao Pingchi was stunned by her yelling, feeling bitter and depressed. It was clearly her who pointed at the Porsche 911 at the 4S dealership yesterday and said, "If you don't buy this, you don't love me." It was clearly her who showed off the black card the whole way, but now, all the fault was his.

But he didn't dare to refute, and could only coax her humbly: "Yes, yes, it's all my fault... But we have to solve this matter first, otherwise we will really go to jail..."

Xi Wanrong sobbed, finally letting go, but then collapsed onto the leather sofa in the shop, feeling as if her spine had been torn out. She stared at her meticulously maintained manicure—the crystal extensions she had just gotten yesterday, inlaid with Swarovski rhinestones, now jagged from nervousness.

The owner of the second-hand shop was a thin woman in her forties. She checked their "goods" with her fingers painted with scarlet nail polish, and her eyes were as sharp as a human money detector.

"The bag is in okay condition, but there are some minor scratches on the hardware. It costs 150,000 yuan." She said lightly, throwing the bag on the display stand beside her.

"What?!" Xi Wanrong screamed, jumping up and down, her voice so sharp that it shook the glass cabinet. "I bought it for three hundred thousand! And I've only had it for two days! I haven't even taken off the dust bag!"

The boss shrugged, giving her a professional fake smile. "Forget it. The market's bad right now, and the price of secondhand Hermès has plummeted." She glanced at Xi Wanrong meaningfully, "Especially... goods of unknown origin."

Xi Wanrong's face instantly turned pale. Zhao Pingchi quickly restrained her, who was about to lose her temper: "Sell it! We'll sell it!"

For the next half hour, Xi Wanrong felt like she was being tortured. Her Chanel tweed suit, Gucci red-soled high heels, Cartier Love bracelet... each item was thrown onto the glass counter and appraised like garbage.

"The watch is OK, 80,000."

"These shoes are worn out, so I'll give them half price."

"Necklace? Imitation, right? Five thousand at most."

Xi Wanrong's heart skipped a beat with each number. She recalled the moments she'd experienced when she'd bought these treasures: the Chanel clerk respectfully addressing her as "Madam"; the Cartier salesperson opening a bottle of champagne in celebration; and the Gucci store where Zhao Pingchi knelt on the floor to tie her red-soled shoes while she tried them on.

"Wanrong, take off your watch too..." Zhao Pingchi said in a low voice, avoiding her gaze.

Xi Wanrong mechanically took off the blue balloon watch on her wrist. It was a gift from Zhao Pingchi on her 25th birthday. At that time, he vowed, "I will buy you a better one in the future."

Now the diamonds on the dial still sparkled in the light, but they could not illuminate her dim eyes.

"A total of four hundred and eighty-seven thousand." The boss turned his calculator towards them. "We still need nine thousand."

Xi Wanrong suddenly ripped off her Van Cleef & Arpels four-leaf clover earring—the last of her jewelry. "How much is this... worth?"

The boss took a quick look and said, "It's an imitation, three thousand at most."

"Bullshit!" Xi Wanrong finally exploded. "This is genuine! I bought it at the Guomao counter! I have the invoice!"
