Chapter 164 The Light in the Supermarket

"The invoice can be faked," the boss pounded the table impatiently. "If you want to sell it, it's 3,000. If not, forget it."

Zhao Pingchi quickly tried to smooth things over: "Sell, sell, sell!" He fished out a few crumpled bills from his trouser pocket, "I still have two thousand in cash..."

As they exited the secondhand store, the July heat washed over them. Xi Wanrong was left with only a cheap white Zara T-shirt and jeans. Even her underwear was La Perla, which she had bought the day before, but she refused to take it off and sell it in public.

She stood on the street, looking at her empty wrist - where she once wore a diamond-studded Cartier, now there was only a faint circle of sunburn.

"Wanrong, let's go to the 4S store..." Zhao Pingchi touched her shoulder cautiously.

Xi Wanrong suddenly turned around and pushed him hard: "Waste! Look at what you've done to me!"

Zhao Pingchi stumbled back a few steps, knocking over a roadside trash can. Several passersby stopped to watch, and one pulled out a cell phone to record the incident.

"I'm sorry..." Zhao Pingchi lowered his head, like a child who had done something wrong, "I will definitely..."

"Later?" Xi Wanrong laughed shrilly, her voice trembling with hysterics. "How dare you mention the future? I could have found a rich man!"

"I've had enough!" Xi Wanrong grabbed an empty can from the roadside and smashed it at him. "We're done!"

She turned to leave, but Zhao Pingchi grabbed her and said, "Wanrong! Don't be like this... I really love you..."

"Love?" Xi Wanrong sneered and shook his hand off. "What do you love me with? With your sneaky skills? With the way you beat your father?" She looked Zhao Pingchi up and down with contempt, as if she were looking at a bag of garbage. "Look at you now, you're worse than a dog!"

These words stabbed Zhao Pingchi's heart like a knife. He let go of her hand, his eyes gradually turning cold. "Xi Wanrong, you finally told the truth."

"Yes! I've put up with you for so long!" Xi Wanrong screamed hysterically. "Do you know what people say about you behind your back? 'That upstart's lackey!' Do you know how the restaurant waiters laugh at you? 'Even wearing a dragon robe, you don't look like a prince!'"

Zhao Pingchi's face turned livid, and his fists clenched until they crackled. Xi Wanrong, however, intensified his provocation: "What? You want to hit me? Come on! Don't waste the skills you learned from your father!"

Unexpectedly, Zhao Pingchi suddenly laughed.

Xi Wanrong ignored him and turned away.

Four hundred and ninety-six thousand yuan remained in her hand, the wrinkled edges of the bills cutting her palms painfully. This was what she had exchanged her entire fortune for, only to fulfill a dream she shouldn't have had.

She dragged her feet towards the 4S store. The glass curtain wall of the luxury mall behind her reflected the dazzling sunlight, like countless pairs of eyes mocking her.
