"Kneel down! Pick up the candy and throw it away!" Zhang Shumin ordered.
Feng Yulan slowly knelt down and picked up the candies one by one. One rolled under the sofa, and she lay on the ground and reached out to grab it, tears silently dripping onto the floor.
"Why are you crying?" Zhang Shumin kicked her. "Hurry up and cook! Xiaoshuo will be back soon!"
Feng Yulan threw the candies she picked up into the trash can, took a last look at the candy under the sofa that could not be rescued, and walked silently towards the kitchen.
Zhang Shuo came back late, reeking of alcohol. As Feng Yulan was helping him wash up, she noticed abrasions on the joints of his right hand, as if he'd been in a fight.
But she didn't ask anything, just quietly finished her housework and then returned to her corner - only half of her and Zhang Shuo's "wedding bed" belonged to her, and she had to wait until her husband fell asleep before she could lie down.
Lying in bed, Feng Yulan thought of the young man with purple eyes. Although his eyes were cold, at least he didn't have the viciousness of Zhang Shumin or the indifference of Zhang Shuo.
When he gave her the candy, there was even a hint of reluctant concern, as if he didn't want to be nosy but couldn't completely ignore it.
In the darkness, Feng Yulan gently touched the pocket of her uniform - she had secretly hidden a candy, which was lavender, the same color as the boy's eyes.
Tomorrow when she goes to work, she will savor it carefully and let the sweetness linger in her mouth a little longer.
The next morning, Feng Yulan woke up half an hour earlier than usual. Zhang Shuo was still fast asleep, snoring loudly. She quietly got out of bed, put on her uniform, and popped the purple candy into her mouth.
The sweetness spread in her mouth again, this time with a faint scent of lavender. Feng Yulan closed her eyes, letting this moment of sweetness fill her senses.
Before leaving, she found the candy box in the trash. It was warped, but after washing it, it was still usable. She hid it in the deepest part of her locker, like a secret she couldn't reveal to anyone.
