Chapter 179 Transoceanic Phone Call

The rain in London always comes suddenly.

Su Xinghui lay on the bay window in the bedroom, her fingertips gently sliding across the condensed water droplets on the glass. Her other hand held the mobile phone, the screen was on - Ye Fanshuang's caller ID had been on for more than ten seconds.

She pressed the answer button, her voice full of joy: "Fan Shuang!"

A soft laugh came from the other end of the phone, gentle yet a little helpless: "You answered without checking the caller ID?"

"Of course!" Su Xinghui turned over and hugged the pillow. "Who else would call me at this time except you?"

Ye Fanshuang's voice was calm, yet full of doting: "What if it's a scam call?"

"Then I'm not afraid!" Su Xinghui said with a smile, "You will help me solve it anyway."

There was silence on the other end of the phone for a second, and then Ye Fanshuang's low laugh came: "...Idiot."

Su Xinghui's bedroom is in a typical British style, with warm-toned wallpaper, plush dolls placed on the bedside, and a few fashion magazines and unfinished homework scattered on the desk.

There was a sound of rain outside the window, but she felt particularly at ease - because Ye Fanshuang's voice on the other end of the phone was like a warm barrier, isolating all the haze.

"How was school today?" Ye Fanshuang asked.

"Ah! Speaking of this!" Su Xinghui sat up straight. "We have a new transfer student in our class today. He's super handsome!"

There was a pause on the other end of the line.

"...Oh?" Ye Fanshuang's voice remained calm, but the tone subtly dropped half a degree.

Su Xinghui was completely oblivious and continued excitedly, "Blonde hair, blue eyes, supposedly from Switzerland, and he can play the piano! Our music teacher asked him to improvise a piece, and all the girls in the class went crazy!"

Ye Fanshuang let out a soft "tsk".

"But..." Su Xinghui suddenly lowered her voice and said mysteriously, "I don't think he's as good-looking as you."

There was silence on the other end of the phone for two seconds, and then Ye Fanshuang responded calmly: "...Who wants to compete with him?"

Su Xinghui smiled secretly.

——Sure enough, Fan Shuang was jealous.

"What about you? Is there anything fun at school today?" Su Xinghui changed the subject and curled a strand of her hair with her fingers.

Ye Fanshuang's voice was still calm: "Nothing special."

"You're lying!" Su Xinghui curled her lips. "Last time you said your school was putting on a play. Did someone invite you?"

"……Um."

"Who?!" Su Xinghui pricked up her ears instantly.

"Student Union President." Ye Fanshuang's tone was calm, as if he was talking about today's weather.

Su Xinghui's eyes widened. "That girl from Gaoling who is said to have never invited anyone?!"

Ye Fanshuang said "hmm" softly.

"Did you agree?" Su Xinghui asked nervously.

"Rejected."

"Why?!"

"Boring." Ye Fanshuang's voice remained calm, but Su Xinghui could hear a hint of impatience, "And..."

"and?"

"He smells too much of perfume."

Su Xinghui was stunned for a moment, then burst out laughing: "Fanshuang, you are still the same!"

Ye Fanshuang didn't say anything, but Su Xinghui could imagine her expression at the moment - slightly frowning, but with a helpless smile at the corner of her mouth.

——Only in front of her would Ye Fanshuang show such an expression.

The rain outside the window gradually subsided. Su Xinghui glanced at the wall clock - it was nine o'clock in the evening London time, which should be four o'clock in the morning in China.

"Fanshuang, it's late over there, right? Are you still not sleeping?"

"I'm not sleepy." Ye Fanshuang's voice was still clear, "Let's chat for a while."

Su Xinghui pursed her lips and smiled, feeling warm in her heart. She knew Ye Fanshuang was worried that she would be lonely abroad, so she stayed up late to chat with her.

"Well... let me tell you something funny that happened last week?" Su Xinghui blinked. "A girl in our class secretly brought some alcohol into the dormitory. She got drunk and ended up singing in the corridor in the middle of the night. She was caught red-handed by the dorm warden!"

Ye Fanshuang chuckled: "You didn't participate?"

"Of course not!" Su Xinghui said righteously, "I'm a good child!"

"Really?" Ye Fanshuang's voice was full of sarcasm. "Then who got drunk by drinking juice at the party last time?"

Su Xinghui blushed: "That, that time was an accident!"

Ye Fanshuang smiled softly, his voice unspeakably gentle: "Yeah, I know."

As they chatted, Su Xinghui's voice gradually became softer, and she said sleepily: "Fan Shuang..."

"Um?"

"I miss you a little bit..."

There was silence on the other end of the phone for a few seconds, and then Ye Fanshuang responded softly: "...Me too."

Su Xinghui closed her eyes contentedly, the phone still pressed to her ear.

"Go to sleep." Ye Fanshuang's voice was very soft, as if coaxing a child, "I'll call you tomorrow."

"Hmm..." Su Xinghui replied dazedly, "Good night..."

"Good night."

After hanging up the phone, Ye Fanshuang looked at the phone screen and sighed softly.

——Even though we’ve only been apart for a few months, I already miss her.

————————————————————

At 2:17 in the morning, a warm yellow desk lamp was on on Ye Fanshuang's desk.

Outside the window was a quiet night, with the occasional rustle of wind through the treetops. She had already finished the last question on the math test paper before her, and the tip of her pen had lingered on the paper too long, leaving a small stain of ink.

The phone screen suddenly lit up.

"Su Xinghui: Fanshuang! Are you asleep?"

Ye Fanshuang paused her pen, her gaze shifting from the test paper to her phone. She picked up the phone, tapped a few times on the keyboard, deleted the text, and finally replied with only one word:
