Chapter 20: The Past Part 3

"I love seeing awful adults make such wonderful expressions. It's so funny."

Ye Qingliu slowly approached the dean, his eyes smiling like a crescent moon. But in the eyes of the old dean, this innocent smile was undoubtedly the most terrifying.

"Stop wasting time and talking to this bad old man."

Hua Jinyue knocked the dean unconscious from behind with a stick, and then went to the database to destroy all the information about them.

Hua Jinyue looked at the unconscious dean, and her disgust deepened. When she was about to strike back, Ye Qingliu saw through her intention and said, "That's enough."

As the two ran through the corridor, the plasterboards on the ceiling fell down one after another. Ye Qingliu heard the dean's wailing behind him, mixed with the crackling sound of burning wood, like a distorted requiem.

The moment Hua Jinyue stepped out of the orphanage, her shoelaces came loose. She bent down to tie them, but saw her shadow overlapping with her brother's, stretched out very long in the firelight.

The sirens of a fire truck sounded in the distance. Ye Qingliu turned his head to look at the burning building. The thick smoke outlined the shape of wings in the night sky, as if a soul that had been trapped for many years was finally able to spread its wings.

"Brother, your hand is bleeding." Hua Jinyue pointed at the wound on his palm, which was bloody and had been cut by wire at some point.

Ye Qingliu looked down and suddenly smiled. Drops of blood dripped onto the bluestone slabs, blooming into small red flowers. "It's okay. This is the mark of rebirth."

The flames behind them grew brighter and brighter, illuminating their clasped hands. Hua Jinyue looked at her brother's face, which was illuminated by the flames, and suddenly felt that the wounds she had once thought would never heal were slowly scabbed over in the fire.

The clock tower in the distance struck twelve. Friday night was about to pass, but their new life had just begun.

The glass was shattered by the fire, scattered all over the ground... The orphanage was left behind by the two people running. They were like eagles that had broken free from their restraints and returned to the blue sky...

The author has something to say: "I may talk about the reason why this brother and sister are in an orphanage later."
