Chapter 216 Strawberry Cake

An Nuo held her rabbit doll, but her eyes could not help but glance out the window. Just as another flash of lightning streaked across the sky, she suddenly lowered her head and felt someone gently grasping her wrist.

"Look at me." Jin Suyun's voice was particularly clear in the warm yellow light. "When it thunders, look at the bright light and you won't be scared."

The warmth from his fingertips came through his skin, and Jin Annuo looked at him blankly.

The light from the floor lamp outlined his clear jawline, his eyelashes cast a faint shadow under his eyelids, and her reflection was reflected in his pupils, like two flickering candle flames.

"It seems... I'm not that scared anymore." She whispered, but the tips of her ears slowly turned red.

Jin Yunyun smiled, released her wrist, and handed her the fried egg from his bowl: "Eat the noodles quickly, they won't taste good if they get cold."

The rain was still falling outside the window, but the living room was so quiet that the only sounds were the clinking of dishes and the slight hum of electricity from the floor lamp.

Jin Annuo secretly looked at his brother and found that he was concentrating on looking at the rain outside the window, his brows slightly furrowed, as if he was thinking about something.

"Brother," she suddenly said, "Do you remember that time in elementary school? You came to pick me up in the rain and ended up having a fever?"

Jin Sunyun turned his head, a smile flashing in his eyes: "I remember. You insisted on sharing your gummy candy with me, and it got all over my school uniform."

"No!" Jin Annuo was so anxious that he almost stood up, "You clearly said it yourself..."

"What?" He raised his eyebrows at her, teasing her intentionally.

"You said... you said that even if you had a fever, you would feel better after eating Annuo's candy." Her voice became increasingly quiet, her cheeks burning like freshly cooked noodles. "But you still didn't go to class the next day..."

Jin Suyun put down his chopsticks and reached out to smooth her hair. "Because An Nuo was still young at that time, she needed her brother's protection."

"I need it now!" she blurted out, and only then realized what she had said. She quickly lowered her head to pick up the noodles, but accidentally choked.

Jin Sunyun handed her the warm water and patted her back gently with his fingers: "Eat slowly, no one is competing with you for it."

"Brother," she put down the cup and looked at him, "next time when it rains, can we share an umbrella?"

Jin Chanyun looked at her sparkling eyes, which were like stars falling into the rain.

He was silent for a few seconds, then nodded slightly, his fingertips tapping a light rhythm on the table, as if responding to the sound of rain outside the window.

"Okay," he said, a smile in his voice. "From now on, every rainy day, I will hold an umbrella for you."

The light from the floor lamp flowed in his eyes, and the rain outside the window seemed to become the most gentle background.
