Chapter 22: Past Part 5

"Love" is like drugs and tranquilizers in her heart at this moment. "Love" is such a beautiful and noble thing.

The more Yi An longed for love, the more vague love seemed to coil around her heart like a poisonous snake spitting out its tongue, slowly eroding her heart.

Yi An no longer had any love for that man. All the vows she had made to him had vanished into thin air. What love, what worthless thing, no longer existed.

Perhaps she has lived a mediocre life for so long before she began to truly discover someone who cares about her. The only person in the world who treats her well is probably her cousin Hua Yueyao.

Since childhood, Yi An has had more than just family affection for his cousin Hua Yueyao; it's also love. It's called love, but it's actually a morbid kind of love.

Ye Qingliu and Hua Jinyue escaped from the orphanage together. When he was 12 years old, his father's personal secretary came to his house and told him a shocking news: his father had passed away.

The two of them followed the secretary back to the home they had left six years ago. The layout of the house was still exactly the same as when they left, but it seemed more lifeless than before.

This doesn't look like a place where living people would live, nor does it look like a place that can bring people good memories.

A house, like a home, is merely a facade, its interior like a cicada that has shed its shell. Rotting and filthy parasites devour the very pillars that once supported it, and the slightest external force could bring it utterly crumbling in an instant.

Ye Chenxi's funeral was very grand. He did not leave behind anything that could be commemorated by others. The only thing that people could care about and that could be compared to everything else was probably his inheritance.

On the day of the funeral, the gray clouds hung low, and the drizzle continued to fall, seemingly lost in its direction, knocking down the leaves of many trees. The leaves fell pitifully into the mud, crying miserably.

Ye Qingliu held his sister's hand, stood in the rain with an umbrella, and looked at the bustling crowd in front of him.

People carried the exquisite coffin past the brother and sister in an orderly manner, and most of the people who followed to see them off had solemn expressions on their faces.

Walking in the center of the crowd was his stepmother Yi An. Yi An was also wearing the same black mourning clothes as everyone else. Her hair, which was usually loose, was now tied up with a hairband.

Hua Jinyue just followed Ye Qingliu. When she was brought back to attend her father's funeral, she was in a dazed state and even a little unnatural.

Hua Jinyue's memory of this family is very vague. She has no memory of her gentle mother or strict father.

The only person left in her memory is her brother Ye Qingliu who has always taken care of her. She regards her brother as her only one. She follows her brother without hesitation like a little tail and is sent to an orphanage with her brother by Yi An.

At the funeral, Ye Qingliu just stood quietly by, looking indifferently at the ugly faces of the chattering adults. Everyone thought they could get some inheritance, so they stared at the secretary who was reading the will.

Once the will was announced, all the people present were silent. Ye Chenxi's estate was entirely inherited by Ye Qingliu and Hua Jinyue.

After hearing this, Yi An felt annoyed. Although she got a share, it was less than one-third of theirs.

So, Yi An took action against Ye Qingliu...

Ye Qingliu's hands and feet were tied to a chair, and the setting sun dyed the world red like blood. The setting sun shone through the broken glass window and fell on the face of the person on the chair.

Ye Qingliu closed his eyes obediently, his long eyelashes trembling rhythmically with his even breathing.

The setting sun seemed to favor this delicate boy, giving his smooth face a light pink hue, making him look very adorable.

Yi An admitted that he was stunned. That face... overlapped with Hua Yueyao's, incredibly like a dream.

Yi An slowly stretched out his trembling hand, wanting to touch the person in his memory again. For some reason, his hand stopped powerlessly in mid-air.

Ye Qingliu woke up slowly and looked at the woman in front of him with an expressionless face. He was conscious and aware of his current situation.

Seeing Ye Qingliu wake up, Yi An never took her eyes off him. If you look closely at the turbulent emotions in this woman's eyes, you will be frightened by the terrible emotions in her eyes.

"Qingliu-chan~ Do you know why I tied you up here?"

Hearing the other person's sweet voice asking him this, he felt goosebumps all over his body and he didn't say anything.

"Of course it's because I love you~~ My dear, no one will disturb our time together here... I really love you~"

This doesn't sound like the love a mother expresses to her child at all, but rather like the whispers of a lover.

Yi An squatted down, caressed the other person's cheek lovingly with his hand, and expressed his love to the other person with affection.

Yi An was suddenly startled for a second or two, like a cat whose tail was stepped on. She could feel the other person's face tremble slightly.

Is he disgusted with herself? She defined herself in this way, trying to see any expression on that face, but found that there was no expression on his face.

"Why, that woman can touch you, but I can't? My little darling~"

Yi An smiled charmingly and strangely, her eyes as deep as the abyss, locking onto Ye Qingliu as if wanting to devour his soul.

She suddenly approached, so fast that Ye Qingliu was caught off guard, and one hand tightly grasped Ye Qingliu's neck like an iron clamp.
