Chapter 220 Redemption in the Rain

Raindrops dripped down Feng Yulan's eyelashes, blurring her vision. She knelt on the muddy mountain road, holding the unconscious Zhang Shumin in her arms.

My mother-in-law's forehead was terribly burned, and the wound on her shoulder began to bleed again, staining the simple bandage dark red.

"Mom, hold on..." Feng Yulan's voice was drowned out by the heavy rain.

They had been walking on this desolate mountain road for six hours. Ever since leaving the fishing village, they felt as if they were being pursued by invisible enemies, forcing them to not stop.

But now, Zhang Shumin's high fever and shoulder injury have reached their limit, and Feng Yulan herself is exhausted.

A flash of lightning split the night sky, illuminating the winding mountain road ahead. Feng Yulan suddenly saw two beams of car lights in the distance, piercing through the rain and slowly moving towards them.

Her heart tightened. Was it a pursuer? Or just an ordinary passerby? If it was the latter, would he be willing to help two wanted women?

The car was getting closer and closer. It was a black luxury car with smooth lines. Even in the heavy rain, it was as elegant as a black panther.

Feng Yulan subconsciously dragged Zhang Shumin to hide in the bushes by the roadside, but heard her mother-in-law groaning in pain in her coma.

At that moment, Feng Yulan made the boldest decision of her life.

She gently put Zhang Shumin down, rushed out of the bushes, and stood in the middle of the mountain road, waving her arms: "Stop! Please stop!"

The sharp sound of brakes echoed through the valley. The luxury car came to a sudden stop less than a meter away from her, its tires skidding on the slippery road.

Feng Yulan's legs went weak and she knelt in front of the car, rain and tears mixing on her face.

"Save us... My mother-in-law is dying..." She cried out at the dark car window, her voice so hoarse that it didn't sound like her own.

After a few seconds of silence, the rear window slowly lowered halfway.

Feng Yulan saw a surprisingly young face - a teenager of no more than seventeen or eighteen years old, with short, neatly trimmed black hair and a pale complexion that looked like cold jade under the light from inside the car.

The most unforgettable thing is that pair of gray-blue eyes, which are as cold as the frozen deep sea in the night.

The young man didn't say anything, but just looked quietly at Feng Yulan who was kneeling in the rain.

His gaze was not like that of a high school student, but like that of a king who had experienced many vicissitudes of life, sharp enough to see through people's hearts.

"Name." He began, his voice unexpectedly low.

Feng Yulan's lips trembled. "Feng... Feng Yulan. My mother-in-law is Zhang Shumin. She's injured and has a high fever..."

An unreadable glint flashed in the boy's eyes. He said something to the front passenger seat, and the car door immediately opened. A burly man in a black suit walked over, holding an umbrella.

"Take them to the car." The boy ordered briefly.

Five minutes later, Feng Yulan and Zhang Shumin were already sitting in the warm back seat of the luxury car. Zhang Shumin was placed in the spacious seat, with her head resting on Feng Yulan's legs.

A middle-aged man in a white coat - obviously the accompanying doctor - was examining her injuries.

"The wound is infected and needs immediate attention," the doctor told the boy. "Your temperature is 39.8. Delaying this is very dangerous."

The boy nodded: "Go to Cuihu Villa."

Only then did Feng Yulan notice that the interior of the car was more luxurious than she had imagined - the leather seats exuded a faint sandalwood scent, there was a soft handmade wool carpet under her feet, and not even a drop of rain could get on the car window glass.

She was soaked to the skin and shrank unconsciously for fear of dirtying the luxurious carriage.

"Cold?" the boy asked, pressing a button without waiting for an answer. "Turn up the heat."

Warm air blew out from the hidden vent, and Feng Yulan's frozen fingers gradually regained consciousness.

Only then did she have the chance to take a closer look at her savior - the boy was wearing a public high school uniform, with an exquisite school emblem embroidered on the left breast pocket of his dark blue jacket.

He looked like a perfect student, except for his gray-blue eyes and the aura around him that didn't match his age.

"Thank you..." Feng Yulan said with a sob, "We are really at our wit's end..."

The boy didn't respond, but took out a bottle of mineral water from the car refrigerator and handed it to her: "Drink some water."

Feng Yulan took it carefully. The weight of the crystal bottle told her that this was no ordinary mineral water.

She took a sip, and the clear and sweet taste immediately moistened her chapped lips.

"What's your name?" she asked with courage.

The boy looked directly at her with his gray-blue eyes: "Ye Qingliu."

There is no further explanation, as if the name should say it all.

Feng Yulan did feel that it sounded familiar, but her confused brain was unable to think effectively at the moment.

The car drove into a secluded private road, lined with neatly trimmed pine and cypress trees.

The rain gradually subsided. Through the car window, Feng Yulan saw a brightly lit modern-style villa on the distant hillside. It looked as unreal as a mirage in the rainy night.

"Cuihu Villa." Ye Qingliu noticed her gaze. "It's a property under the name of the Ye family."

Feng Yulan gasped.

Ye's—the business empire that often appeared in financial news? No wonder she felt the name Ye Qingliu sounded familiar. But the boy in front of her looked like a high school student at best...

The car passed through the automatically opened iron gate and stopped in front of the villa along the circular driveway.

Several uniformed servants were already waiting with umbrellas. Ye Qingliu gave a brief order: "Prepare the medical room and call Dr. Chen."

Zhang Shumin was carefully carried onto a stretcher and taken to the second floor. Feng Yulan wanted to follow, but Ye Qingliu stopped her: "Change your clothes and eat something first. I will ensure that she receives the best possible treatment."

His tone was unquestionable, so Feng Yulan had no choice but to follow a maid to the guest room.
