Chapter 223 A fatal blow

Zhou Ziqian rode on Zhao Laosi and smashed down with his fists like hammers.

One punch. Broken nose.

Two punches. Gold teeth flew off.

Three punches. Eyeballs popped.

At this moment, Zhao Laosi's bayonet stabbed into Zhou Ziqian's abdomen.

The sharp pain made Zhou Ziqian's movements freeze. Zhao Laosi took the opportunity to turn over and put the bayonet to his throat: "Zhou Hui's son... is nothing more than this."

"Bang!"

Gunshot.

A bloody hole exploded on the back of Zhao Laosi's head.

He froze for a second, then fell to the ground with a thud.

Zhou Yuan stood three meters away, holding the smoking pistol in both hands, her face pale.

Zhou Ziqian struggled to get up, the blood pouring out of his abdomen like a floodgate. He looked at his mother and sister and grinned: "It's okay..."

Then he fell to the ground.

Lin Man ripped open her shirt and pressed it against her son's wound, her voice trembling: "Ziqian! Look at me! Don't close your eyes!"

Zhou Yuan knelt beside him, frantically searching for her cell phone to call an ambulance.

"No... we can't go to the hospital..." Zhou Ziqian grabbed his sister's hand, his mouth full of blood. "Behind Zhao Laosi... is the Shen family... They have people in the police force..."

Outside the window, the sound of sirens was getting closer.

The yellow-haired boy rushed in, holding the car keys in his hand: "Brother Qian! The car is ready!"

Lin Man made a quick decision: "Go to the dock."

Zhou Yuan put on her schoolbag and took a last look at her messy "home" - a photo of their family in the Maldives was still hanging on the wall, but now the glass frame had cracked into a spider web.

She grabbed the bloody teddy bear and rushed into the rainy night with her mother and brother.

The rain was getting heavier, like basins of cold water pouring down on the fugitives.

The shabby van was bumping along the muddy suburban road. Zhou Ziqian was lying in the back seat, the wound on his abdomen was bleeding, staining Lin Man's makeshift bandage shirt red.

His breathing became weaker and weaker, and his eyelids felt heavy as if filled with lead.

"Ziqian, don't sleep!" Lin Man slapped his face, her voice trembling, "Talk to Mom!"

Zhou Ziqian's lips moved, but only a mouthful of blood foam came out.

Zhou Yuan gripped the teddy bear tightly, her nails almost digging into the fabric.

She stared at the rearview mirror - in the distance, several black SUVs without sirens were chasing them from behind, their headlights like the eyes of wild beasts, looming in the rain.

"They're catching up." The yellow-haired young man driving the car said in a trembling voice, "Brother Qian, what should we do?"

Zhou Ziqian raised his hand with difficulty and pointed to the fork in the road ahead: "Turn left... go to the abandoned... refinery..."

The tires slipped in the mud and the van made a sharp turn and rushed into the rusty factory area.

The collapsed pipes and overgrown oil tanks became the best shelters. After the headlights went out, the entire car seemed to blend into the darkness.

The sound of the off-road vehicle's engine came from far away and then gradually faded away.

Zhou Yuan was just about to breathe a sigh of relief when she suddenly heard a soft "click" - the sound of a pistol being loaded.

A dark figure stood outside the car window, the muzzle of a gun pressed against the glass.

"Get out of the car." The shadow's voice was as hoarse as sandpaper. "Take your time."

Lin Man's hand quietly reached for the fruit knife under the seat, but the other party saw through her intention: "Mrs. Zhou, if I wanted to kill you, I could have shot you just now."

The car door opened and cold wind mixed with rain rushed in.

The black shadow was a man in his forties. There was a scar on his left cheek that extended from his brow bone to his chin, like a centipede crawling on his skin.

He was wearing an old dock worker's jacket, but the way he held his gun revealed that he was no ordinary worker.

"Old K?" Zhou Ziqian suddenly struggled to sit up, disbelief flashing in his eyes, "You're still alive?"

The man called Lao K sneered: "Thanks to your father, I worked in the Philippines for three years."

He opened his jacket, revealing three daggers at his waist. "Now, tell me the Swiss bank password."

Lin Man protected Zhou Yuan behind her: "What's the password?"

"Don't play dumb." Old K turned his gun towards Zhou Ziqian. "Before Zhou Hui died, he gave you the key to the last batch of gold. The Shen family has blocked all the ports out to the sea. Without me, you can't even leave this refinery."

Zhou Yuan suddenly realized something and hugged the teddy bear tightly.

Old K's eyes immediately locked onto her: "Little girl, aren't the eyes of that bear in your arms a little too bright?"

Suddenly, there was the roar of an engine in the distance—the pursuers were returning.

Old K cursed and opened the car door: "Follow me!"

In the drainage pipe, the turbid sewage was ankle-deep and emitted a pungent stench.

Zhou Yuan followed Lao K closely, taking every step carefully.

In the darkness, she could hear the rustling sound of mice crawling, and occasionally drops of water fell from the gaps in the pipes above her head, hitting her shoulders, and it was icy cold.

Lin Man supported Zhou Ziqian, his breathing heavy and bleeding from the wound in his abdomen. He stumbled every few steps, but he gritted his teeth and remained silent.

"How far is it?" Zhou Yuan asked in a low voice, her voice echoing in the narrow passage.

Old K didn't look back, the beam of his flashlight flickering on the damp wall. "Go another five hundred meters, there's a fork in the road. Turn right and you'll reach the pier."

Suddenly, there was a "splash" sound of water behind me - someone was chasing me!

Old K suddenly turned off the flashlight and shouted, "Get down! Don't make any noise!"

In the darkness, Zhou Yuan could hear her own heartbeat, so violent that it seemed like it was about to burst out of her chest.

In the distance, several beams of strong light swept across the water, accompanied by the sound of chaotic footsteps and low conversations.

"Search separately," a gruff male voice commanded. "They can't get far."
