She took out a carton of strawberry milk from her schoolbag, inserted a straw, and sipped it, as if the person carrying the bazooka just now was not her.
Ye Qingliu handed her a tablet: "All the evidence is here. Zhang Shumin used you to launder money for six years, but you are innocent and will not be prosecuted."
Feng Yulan numbly flipped through documents - bank records, surveillance videos, and even testimony from her supermarket colleagues, proving that Zhang Shumin often met with suspicious people in the warehouse.
"Where is Zhang Shuo?" she asked softly.
"Life imprisonment." Ye Qingliu said calmly, "He has a life on his hands."
The car drove back to the Ye family manor. Feng Yulan returned to the guest room exhausted, only to find Hua Jinyue had followed her in.
"Sister." The girl closed the door, her smile suddenly disappearing. "Jinyue wants to warn you about something."
She took a step forward, and Feng Yulan unconsciously stepped back.
"Brother is too kind, always giving second chances." Hua Jinyue's voice was as cold as ice, "But Jinyue won't. If you dare to betray brother..."
She suddenly pulled out a butterfly knife from the hem of her skirt and swung it between her fingers. "Jinyue will make you disappear without a trace~"
The knife flashed, and a strand of Feng Yulan's hair fell to the ground.
Hua Jinyue regained her sweet smile: "Good night, sister!" She jumped away, as if the threat just now was just a joke.
Feng Yulan collapsed to the ground, finally breaking down in tears. In just a few days, her entire world had collapsed—her violent husband, her hypocritical mother-in-law, and this dangerous brother and sister.
She was just an ordinary cashier, why was she involved in such a nightmare?
Late at night, someone knocked gently on the door. Feng Yulan huddled in the corner in fear.
"It's me." Ye Qingliu's voice.
When the door opened, the boy stood in the hallway light. He had changed back into his school uniform and had a Band-Aid on the wound on his face. He handed her a new phone and a bank card.
"A new identity and compensation," he said calmly. "I'll have a car to take you to the airport tomorrow so you can start your new life."
Feng Yulan didn't answer: "Why help me?"
Ye Qingliu was silent for a moment: "Because you are the victim."
He turned to leave, then stopped. "Don't take Jinyue's words to heart. She's just... too protective of me."
Feng Yulan suddenly asked: "Who are you? What does the real Ye family do?"
Ye Qingliu turned around, his gray-blue eyes almost transparent in the moonlight: "Guardian and Scavenger."
He whispered, "Good night, Ms. Feng."
The next morning, Feng Yulan was awakened by Uncle Chen. The manor was strangely quiet, as if the bloody storm of the previous day was just a dream.
She was alone at the breakfast table. Uncle Chen handed her her ticket and passport. "The flight leaves in two hours. You can choose your destination."
Feng Yulan opened her passport - new name, new identity, even the photo was changed to what she looked like in college.
"Where are Master Ye and Miss Hua?"
"He left in the early morning." Uncle Chen smiled. "Young Master Ye left a message, hoping you would forget all this."
As the car drove out of the manor, Feng Yulan took one last look at this luxurious cage. In the rearview mirror, she seemed to see a pink figure waving from the top-floor window, but it disappeared in the blink of an eye.
At the airport security checkpoint, Feng Yulan hesitated for a moment, but still dialed the number given by Ye Qingliu.
"Anything else?" His voice remained calm.
"Thank you." Feng Yulan took a deep breath. "And...be careful with your wound."
There was silence on the other end of the phone for a few seconds, and then Hua Jinyue giggled: "Brother, sister likes you~"
The call was hastily ended. Feng Yulan smiled bitterly, shook her head, and threw the phone into the trash can.
The boarding announcement sounded, and she walked towards the gate carrying her simple luggage. Behind her was the nightmare of the past six years, and ahead was an unknown new life.
As the plane soared into the sky, Feng Yulan looked at the sea of clouds outside the window and suddenly remembered the word Ye Qingliu had said - "scavenger".
Perhaps to this world, the Ye brothers and sisters are such a special existence, maintaining a certain balance in their own way.
And she could finally return to an ordinary life. Feng Yulan closed her eyes, a tear sliding down her cheek.
For whom were these tears shed—for herself, the deceived self? For her dead love? Or for that boy with gray-blue eyes? She herself didn't know.
