Chen Yanbai took a deep breath, tilted his head and looked at his brother, grinning like a child who had succeeded in a prank: "When the old man was being instigated, you should have guessed... The Shen family had long been a fishing pond for the police."
Chen Yanxiu said nothing, but slowly buttoned up his blood-soaked shirt, his eyes behind the gold-rimmed glasses unfathomable.
A rustling sound of electricity came from the assistant's headphones, followed by a clear command: "Operation codename 'Clear the Accounts', closing in."
Chen Yanbai picked up the gun from the ground, spun it beautifully, and winked at Zhou Yuan: "Welcome to the truth time, Miss Zhou."
Chen Yanxiu's blood dripped onto the floor like a string of dark red pearls. He leaned against the wall, his fingers gently pressing the wound on his abdomen, a sticky liquid seeping out from between his fingers.
His suit was already stained, but the expression on his face remained calm, as if the pain had nothing to do with him.
"So," he began slowly, his voice low and steady, "the old man has been acting from the beginning?"
Chen Yanbai tilted his head, his silver hair gleaming coldly in the dim light, and the teardrop mole at the corner of his eye made him look like a naughty boy.
"Not entirely." He chuckled. "He was truly evil in the first half of his life, and only acted in the second half."
Zhou Yuan's gaze flickered between the two brothers, her heart pounding. She suddenly realized she was standing in the middle of a chess game that had lasted thirty years, and every piece on the board had long since been replaced.
The assistant—no, we should call him Officer Chen now—took a USB drive from his pocket and inserted it into the projector.
The images on the wall switched, showing densely packed files.
"The Shen Group, ostensibly in the financial sector, secretly engages in money laundering, smuggling, and manipulation of both the political and business worlds." Officer Chen's voice was emotionless. "But what you don't know is that thirty years ago, Mr. Shen was recruited by Interpol, and the entire Shen family has since become a massive sting operation."
The documents on the projector flipped through page after page—bank statements, minutes of secret meetings, lists of undercover agents.
Zhou Yuan saw her father's name prominently listed, with the words "deep penetration, out of control" written next to it.
Chen Yanxiu suddenly chuckled, his eyes dark and unclear behind his gold-rimmed glasses.
"So, every bit of dirty money I've handled over the years has been under your surveillance?"
"Every single one." Chen Yanbai twirled his gun lazily, "Including the $300 million you deposited in Switzerland last month."
The air froze for a moment.
Zhou Yuan looked at Chen Yanxiu suddenly, but found that his expression did not fluctuate at all, as if he had already anticipated all this.
"So what are you going to do now?" Chen Yanxiu asked, his voice so soft as if he was discussing tomorrow's weather.
Officer Chen turned on his headset, listened for a few seconds, then looked up: "Operation begins, global simultaneous closure."
Almost at the same time, the basement door was kicked open, and fully armed special police rushed in, pointing their guns at everyone in the room - except Chen Yanbai and Officer Chen.
Chen Yanxiu slowly raised his hands, a faint smile playing on his lips. "Looks like the game is over."
Chen Yanbai approached him, his silver hair almost blinding under the glare of the tactical flashlight. He reached out and gently removed his brother's gold-rimmed glasses, his movements almost gentle.
"No," he whispered, "this is the real beginning."
Outside the window, the sound of police sirens pierced the night sky, and the interlaced red and blue police lights illuminated the entire Shen family villa as bright as day. At this moment, the century-old Shen family collapsed.
Standing in the center of the storm, Zhou Yuan finally understood that the account book left by her father was never a life-saving talisman, but a death curse.
While the police were controlling the scene, a slender figure stood silently under the shadow of a tree in the garden behind the villa.
Gu Yuxiao lit a cigarette, the flame illuminating his stern profile. He took a deep breath, the smoke swirling in the night, but his eyes remained fixed in the direction of the villa.
"The Shen family has fallen." Li Zhou stepped out from the shadows and said in a low voice, "Are you satisfied?"
Gu Yuxiao didn't answer, but just put out the cigarette and gently stroked the cigarette butt with his fingertips.
"The Shen family is just the beginning."
Li Zhou frowned: "You promised that you would stop as long as the Shen family fell."
Gu Yuxiao finally turned to look at him, his dark eyes deep and unfathomable. "The Shen family has collapsed, but Ye Xiao is still here."
Li Zhou's breathing stopped.
Night Owl - the mysterious figure whose background even Interpol cannot figure out, is the real mastermind behind the scenes.
"So, you still want to continue?" Li Zhou asked.
Gu Yuxiao's lips curled up slightly. "You should know better than me what your father found out before he died."
Li Zhou clenched his fists, his knuckles turning white.
His father, once the best undercover agent of the Drug Enforcement Administration, died in an "accidental" car accident on the eve of revealing his identity as Night Owl.
"The Shen family is just Ye Xiao's puppet." Gu Yuxiao said calmly, "Now that the puppet has fallen, what do you think he will do?"
Li Zhou was silent.
Gu Yuxiao turned around, his black windbreaker rustling in the night wind.
"Let's go, it's time to meet our 'allies'."
Half an hour later, at an abandoned warehouse on the outskirts of the city.
Chen Yanbai leaned against the wall, his silver hair gleaming coldly in the moonlight. He toyed with a police badge in his hand, his eyes casually glancing at the door.
The door was pushed open and Gu Yuxiao and Li Zhou walked in.
"I've long heard of your name, Mr. Gu." Chen Yanbai greeted with a smile, his tone frivolous but his eyes sharp as a knife.
Gu Yuxiao didn't respond, but just looked at him coldly: "The Shen family has collapsed, what are you going to do next?"
Chen Yanbai shrugged. "Of course I'll keep fishing." He waved his police badge. "After all, I'm a 'good cop.'"
