The early autumn wind brought a slight chill, rolling up a few yellowed sycamore leaves, swirling them on the campus's tree-lined avenue.
Ning Xiwan was wrapped in a thin beige windbreaker, walking slowly with her hands in her pockets, and the fallen leaves under her feet made a crackling sound.
Her phone vibrated, she took it out and saw Duan Shuce's reply: [OK, wait for me for twenty minutes].
The corners of his mouth lifted unconsciously, and he was about to put his phone back into his pocket when a sweet voice suddenly came from behind him.
"Sister, what a coincidence."
Ning Xiwan paused, and when she turned around, the hem of her windbreaker drew a neat arc.
Ning Yunmeng stood three steps away, wearing Chanel's latest light pink dress, with carefully styled chestnut curly hair draped over her shoulders, and her makeup so exquisite that she looked like she was going to walk the red carpet.
"Why are you here?" Ning Xiwan raised her eyebrows and glanced at the pair of Jimmy Choo high heels inlaid with rhinestones on her feet.
This outfit doesn't look like someone who comes to college to visit friends.
Ning Yunmeng took a step forward, and her high heels made a crisp sound as they stepped on the fallen leaves.
"I'm here to hang out with my friends." She smiled harmlessly, her eyes glancing around. "I didn't expect to run into my sister."
Ning Xiwan stood with her arms folded, a half-smile on her face. The autumn wind blew through her high ponytail, causing the ends of her hair to sway gently.
"Really? That's such a coincidence." She deliberately emphasized the last two words.
Ning Yunmeng suddenly walked up to her and took her arm affectionately, and the rich scent of Dior J'adore perfume hit her face.
"Sis, since we've met, why don't we go shopping together?"
Ning Xiwan calmly withdrew her hand, and the fabric of the windbreaker slipped through Ning Yunmeng's fingertips.
"No, I have something else to do." She turned to leave, but was grabbed by the wrist.
"Sister! Don't be like this!" Ning Yunmeng's voice suddenly rose, and the crying tone was particularly harsh in the quiet tree-lined avenue.
Her eyes turned red, and crystal tears hung on her eyelashes, about to fall. "I know you hate me, but I really just want to get along with you..."
Students passing by stopped to chat in groups of three or four. Some raised their phones to record the scene.
Ning Xiwan narrowed her eyes and watched Ning Yunmeng's performance - this poor acting could only fool outsiders who were unaware of the situation.
Just as Ning Xiwan was about to shake off Ning Yunmeng's hand, a voice as cold as an ice spring came from the side:
"let go."
The sound was not loud, but it instantly quieted the noisy discussions around.
Ning Xiwan turned her head and saw Ye Qingliu standing under the sycamore tree with one hand in his pocket. His gray-blue eyes appeared transparent in the sunlight, like the cold light reflected by polar glaciers.
He was wearing a crisp dark blue school uniform that made his complexion look pale. His short hair was neatly tied to his neck, and he exuded an aura that kept strangers away.
His schoolbag was casually slung over his left shoulder, and in his right hand he held a thick collection of competition questions. His slender fingers pressed on the spine of the book, with distinct joints.
Ning Yunmeng was obviously startled, and the grip on Ning Xiwan's hand unconsciously loosened.
She quickly adjusted her expression, her eyes reddened, and her voice trembled just the right amount: "My dear classmate, you misunderstood. I just..."
Ye Qingliu didn't even glance at her and walked straight to Ning Xiwan.
He was more than half a head taller than her, and the shadow he cast when he approached completely covered Ning Xiwan.
"Sister Wan, are you okay?" The voice was still cold, but the ending tone rose slightly, revealing a subtle concern.
Ning Xiwan rubbed her red wrist and sneered, "It's okay, it's just a dog-skin plaster stuck to it."
She deliberately spoke loudly, and looked at Ning Yunmeng with satisfaction when her face froze.
More and more students gathered around to watch the excitement, and whispers rose one after another:
"Isn't that Ye Qingliu from the No. 1 Middle School next door? The one who won the gold medal in the Mathematical Olympiad!"
"The real person is ten thousand times more handsome than the candid photos in Tieba!"
"He actually knows Ning Xiwan? And calls her sister?"
Ning Yunmeng's eyes lit up when she heard the discussion.
She straightened her skirt and took small steps closer to Ye Qingliu. When she raised her face, tears just fell: "Classmate, I really don't mean any harm, it's just that my sister has some misunderstandings about me..."
Ye Qingliu then looked at her straight in the eye, his gray-blue eyes seemed to be covered with a layer of ice.
He opened his thin lips and uttered two words: "Get out of the way."
The sound was not loud, but it made Ning Yunmeng unconsciously take half a step back.
Just when the atmosphere was at its most tense, a clear, smiling voice came from the outskirts of the crowd:
"Wanwan."
The crowd automatically made way for Duan Shuce, who came lazily with his schoolbag in one hand.
He was wearing a dark black school uniform without a tie, and the top two buttons of his shirt were casually open, revealing a section of his collarbone.
The sunlight danced on his short chestnut hair, and his smiling face had a bit of ruffian vibe.
Ning Yunmeng's eyes suddenly lit up surprisingly. She quickly adjusted her expression, and her eyes reddened again: "This classmate..." Her voice was so soft that it could squeeze out water, "Please persuade my sister. She seems to have some misunderstandings about me..."
Duan Shuce raised his eyebrows, took a long step and walked directly to Ning Xiwan, his arm naturally wrapped around her shoulders: "What misunderstanding?"
He lowered his head and asked Ning Xiwan, his voice so gentle that it could drip water.
Ning Yunmeng bit her lower lip and cried, "I just want to get along well with my sister, but she..."
"Then why don't you stay away from her?" Duan Shuce interrupted her, and his eyes turned cold instantly when he raised his head.
Ning Yunmeng choked, her carefully manicured nails digging into her palms.
Ye Qingliu stood aside and added coldly: "Sister Wan doesn't like you, can't you see?"
